NASA released a climate action plan on October 7, 2021, aimed at averting mission impacts due to climate change, ensuring the resiliency of facilities and assets, and providing the nation and world unique climate observations, analysis, and modeling through scientific research. The plan is part of President Biden’s whole-of-government approach to confronting the climate crisis. Federal agencies face rising maintenance and repair costs due to more frequent and extreme weather events, health and safety challenges to employees for work outside, and potential issues with program effectiveness. To address these and other challenges, President Biden prioritized federal agency climate adaptation and...

For now, life is flourishing on our oxygen-rich planet, but Earth wasn't always that way – and scientists have predicted that, in the future, the atmosphere will revert back to one that's rich in methane and low in oxygen. This probably won't happen for another billion years or so. But when the change comes, it's going to happen fairly rapidly, the study from earlier this year suggests. This shift will take the planet back to something like the state it was in before what's known as the Great Oxidation Event (GOE) around 2.4 billion years ago. What's more, the researchers...

President Biden on Friday admitted that his $3.5 trillion social spending plan won’t pass Congress as proposed — and that free community college is one of the items that will get cut. “To be honest with you, we’re probably not going to get $3.5 trillion this year. We’re going to get something less than that. But I’m going to negotiate, I’m going to get it done,” the president said. Biden said, “I don’t know that I can get it done, but I also have proposed free community college, like you’ve done here in the state of Connecticut.” Left-wing Democrats have...

“Why the Army thinks a French Manicure is an “obnoxious” color compared to the civilian world which views it as an understated yet professional look is beyond me. Boeing’s former head technical pilot on the 737 MAX program could face over 80 years in federal prison for his part in the problems that caused two aircraft to crash and grounded the next-generation aircraft for two years. U.S. attorneys for the Northern District of Texas announced the inditement of 49-year-old Mark A. Forkner on multiple counts of wire fraud and fraud involving aircraft parts in interstate commerce. According to the allegations delivered in a 16-page indictment, Forkner oversaw the flight technical team, providing information on differences between the 737 Next Generation and 737 MAX to the Federal Aviation Administration....

A New York Times headline this week said, “As Big Tech Grows in the Pandemic, Seattle Grows With It.” Yet the story mostly refers to the Eastside, while Seattle’s downtown remains in trouble. [snip] This isn’t surprising considering Seattle made itself less competitive in the region by passing a business tax that would apply to higher salaries on about 800 companies (although sold as the “Amazon tax”). At the same time, crime is increasing, and increasingly tolerated by City Hall. So is homelessness, which has gotten worse despite hundreds of millions spent to supposedly address it. These are citywide problems...

PRAIRIE DU SAC, Wis. — Friday, and Friday only, Culver’s restaurants will add the “Curderburger” to their menu for National Cheese Curd Day. News 3 Now traveled to the Culver’s test kitchen in Prairie du Sac to find out how what started as an April Fool’s Day joke came to life. “It really was about giving the guests what they asked for, right?” Culver’s director of menu development Quinn Adkins said. “All of the buzz and enthusiasm that we received from our guests when the April Fool’s prank went live.” The joke was so well-received that an online petition circulated,...

Left: what the tunnel would look like; right: what the sky does look like. (Image Credit Below) Mysterious structures in the sky that have puzzled astronomers for decades might finally have an explanation – and it's quite something. The North Polar Spur and the Fan Region, on opposite sides of the sky, may be connected by a vast system of magnetized filaments. These form a structure resembling a tunnel that circles the Solar System, and many nearby stars besides. "If we were to look up in the sky," said astronomer Jennifer West of the University of Toronto in Canada, "we...

Nearly 40 percent of Americans say they’ve experienced serious financial problems over the past few months and almost 70 percent are worried about their children falling behind in school, according to a new national poll. After growing optimism over the summer that the worst of the pandemic had passed, the resurgence of the virus with the ultra-contagious Delta variant has brought the march back to normal to a halt in some cases — especially when it comes to households struggling with finances. The reports of economic struggles come even as 67 percent of households surveyed said they’d received financial help...

WATERVILLE, Maine (AP) — Colby College is banning discrimination based on caste, a system of inherited social class, becoming one of the nation’s earliest colleges to do so. The private liberal arts college revised its nondiscrimination policy to add caste to its list of protections for the campus community. The efforts were led by a professor who took an interest in caste discrimination across the country and realized the college needed to recognize it as a form of discrimination, the Bangor Daily News reported. “You have to first name what it is to say: This exists, we name it, we...

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gov. Dan McKee on Friday released a working draft of his administration’s vision for Rhode Island’s future. The 55-page RI2030 plan looks at spurring economic growth, strengthening education, addressing climate change, prioritizing housing, and enhancing public health, among other things. The plan was put together with feedback from the public through 13 virtual community conversations. The draft plan also calls for addressing racial inequity and poverty. “Historic and ongoing systemic exclusion of people of color from economic opportunity has led families of color in Rhode Island to be trapped in the cycle of poverty at higher...

Like Saturn, the revolution devours its children. And like clockwork, the progressive mob has set on Kyrsten Sinema. Next time the left lectures on unity, women’s rights or Joe Biden’s decency, lock your door. The Arizona senator continues to infuriate her fellow Democrats, who are frenzied to impose their $3.5 trillion social revolution. Ms. Sinema reportedly has issues with the cost of the package as well as its tax proposals and some programs. She’s conducted dozens of meetings with the White House and key players, though has also made clear she won’t be jammed and won’t negotiate with the public....

A tiny container of maggots made a world of difference for an Arizona woman facing surgery. Dr. Erika Huston at Tuscon Medical Center said the patient had severe wounds on both sides of both ankles that became infected. Although the original plan called for surgery to clean maggots and dead tissue from the wounds, Huston told KOLD she "took the dressings off the wound the next day and the maggots had cleaned the wounds significantly."

Supply chain bottlenecks have Americans waiting longer for the dishwashers and washing machines they've ordered. President Joe Biden's regulatory onslaught means that consumers will also spend extra time running whatever home appliances they do manage to get their hands on. Earlier this week, the public comment period ended on the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) proposal to ban "short-cycle" dishwashers and laundry machines, which clean pants and plates much faster but consume more energy and water to get the job done. These products were legalized under the Trump administration as part of its crusade to undo stifling energy efficiency limits...

Joy Behar told her co-hosts Friday on ABC’s “The View” that Fox News host Tucker Carlson is a “bigot” for mocking Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg’s paternity leave. Behar said, “The rather insecure Tucker Carlson couldn’t resist going full bigot about the whole issue last night.”

With a lack of tech workers and foot traffic, downtown San Jose became a ghost town during the pandemic, but five miles away high-end Santana Row flourished. These two destinations linked by San Carlos and Stevens Creek boulevards and Interstate 280 are worlds apart socioeconomically and the COVID-19 pandemic made that schism wider. Downtown was hit incredibly hard by shelter-in-place mandates during the pandemic. Numerous businesses were unable to survive, leaving streets littered with empty restaurants and storefronts. Built more for office workers than retail shoppers, its restaurants and bars suffered as tech employees worked from home. Uphill road for...

Joe Biden’s approval rating hit to a new low on Thursday. Only 36% of likely voters approve of his job performance. And the future does not look any better for this far left regime. Energy prices are soaring and the shipping crisis is expected to affect the Christmas season. Zogby Analytics says Biden’s approval numbers are sinking like the Titanic.

Democrats, from Barack Obama to Hillary Clinton to former AG Eric Holder have spent the last couple of years sounding the alarm about the “danger to democracy” that is Republican gerrymandering: ======================================================================================= This is a real danger to our democracy. Republican gerrymandering means that bills not supported by the people (like the abortion ban in Texas) become law and majority rule becomes impossible. Demand a fair redistricting process. #NDRC https://t.co/eol2lUYVIt — Eric Holder (@EricHolder) October 5, 2021 ======================================================================================= The passage of the Texas Senate’s congressional map is yet another blatantly partisan attempt to ignore demographic facts. GOP-led legislatures are attacking...

The FAA is headed by a pilot, NASA is headed by an astronaut, the US Marine Corps is headed by a Marine but for the fourth time in a row, and during the worst shipping crisis of the century, the US Department of Transportation, has appointed someone to the US Maritime Administration (MARAD) who is not a captain and has no commercial shipping experience. Yesterday afternoon, President Biden announced his intention to nominate Rear Admiral Ann Phillips, US Navy (Retired), as the next US Maritime Administrator, a position that has been vacant since Rear Admiral Mark Buzby stepped down following...
