- IKEA is temporarily removing unavailable products from its websites and store showrooms as the retailer battles the impacts of the supply chain crunch
- The company is also reducing the number of versions of some products to ensure its most popular items are available
- Additionally, the retailer plans to lease more ships, buy containers and re-route goods between warehouses in an effort to reduce disruptions
- IKEA executives, who shared that no one at the company anticipated the current disruptions, predict the supply chain crisis to continue well into 2022
Like most retailers, IKEA is feeling the impacts of the supply chain crunch and struggling to fill its shelves, with company executives saying the brand's North American stores have been hardest hit by product shortages.
The company is also reducing the number of versions of some products as it struggles with raw materials shortages to ensure its most popular items are available.
Jon Abrahamsson, chief executive at brand owner Inter IKEA, predicts the supply chain crisis to continue well into 2022,...
The supply chain crisis is impacting all major retailers worldwide and,..., the biggest challenge for IKEA currently is getting goods out of China, where roughly a quarter of brand's products are made.
Ben Weaver, 27, from Kalamazoo, Michigan, told the Wall Street Journal: 'I went to Lowe's, Home Depot, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods and I'm already seeing the Christmas stuff replace the Halloween stuff which is ridiculous.
'I'm like, 'hello, are we just skipping Halloween this year?'''

Other than people losing their jobs, would anyone’s life be adversely impacted if IKEA bit the dust?

The photo of empty shelves is from the Halloween decorations section. Is that really a tragedy?

I’m wintering in Mexico and there are no shortages here. The shelves are full. Plenty of everything. I’m not in a major metropolitan area.

Thanks for the report. If shelves are well stocked wherever you are in Mexico, then the reason for our debacle is the throttling of 50% of trucks that can operate in California. See article by Sundance about the Calif Resources Air Board’s 2020 regulatory squeeze.

Here's a solution. Get a couple pieces of white laminated shelving. Get a couple of empty white 5 gallon paint buckets. Stack 'em up.
Voilà — instant Ikea.
