...What DeWine understands, and that many of us do not, is that the possibility of an economic windfall might be able to accomplish what other modes of persuasion could not. For whatever reason that gives him this insight, he seems to intuitively understand the cultural power that lotteries hold in our state. On Twitter yesterday, somebody noted that “Ohioans do love a lottery.” I guess they do. I guess we’ll see. We are now confronted with the fascinating idea that the statistical improbability of winning a lottery might be the motivator that moves otherwise resistant Ohioans to get the vaccine....

Germany has passed legislation that makes the culling of male chicks in the meat industry illegal from January 1, 2022. This makes Germany the first country to ban the mass slaughter of chicks by law. The meat industry utilizes the products of chickens in two key approaches. One is to raise boiler chickens, females that will gain weight quickly and therefore are considered economically valuable for their meat. The others are egg layers, bred to churn out as many eggs as they can before being recategorized as soup chickens. It’s a system that calls for a lot of females with...

Range typically occupies an outsized chunk of the conversation on any new EV. But, in the case of the F-150 Lightning, which has the bestselling pickup's usual healthy scoop of towing and hauling capabilities, things get more complicated. Ford is claiming that the range figures for its electric pickup will come in at 230 miles and 300 miles, depending on whether the standard-range (which we estimate can hold 115.0 kWh) or extended-range battery pack (150.0 kWh, same caveat) is beneath the bed. Those are EPA predictions, specifically EPA combined figures, in lightly loaded conditions. *** Although the Lightning is aided...

"Not only is Microsoft Edge a faster, more secure and more modern browsing experience than Internet Explorer, but it is also able to address a key concern: compatibility for older, legacy websites and applications," Microsoft said. People ribbed Internet...

As an African who grew up in Singapore, a contentious topic which Alvin Philemon Makundi has had to navigate around is the N-word and who has the ‘right’ to use it. For the unacquainted, the N-word refers to a derogatory ethnic slur used against Black people or those of African descent. The degree of offensiveness is increased due to its historical links to slavery. Despite this, the 22-year-old son of Tanzanian immigrants would often receive questions from Singaporeans on whether he'll grant them access to use the N-word freely. Alarmingly, it's some of the teens and young adults here who...

I recently purchased a new computer, and over the last few weeks I've been transferring files from the old one to the new one. While doing this I've been combing through some of these files and checking to ensure that they will work with new versions of various applications I commonly use. One of the things that caught my eye was the "Play Count" number for each of the MP3 and MP4 files I am moving from one computer to the other. As I went through these tracks on iTunes, I decided to rank them in the order of their...
