We all know that a dog is man's best friend and for many people, going on a walk with your pooch is where the bonding starts.
Yesterday (May 20), getai veteran Wang Lei shared a touching video of his neighbour and her pet on Facebook.
More from AsiaOne Read the condensed version of this story, and other top stories with NewsLite. He approached asking her in Hokkien if she took her pet out every day.
"Yes. My dog's so old, I don't know how many days it has left," she responded, adding that the walks help her pet with defaecation.
In his post, Wang noted the animal's declining health: "My neighbour's furkid is so old that it can't stand anymore."
He praised the woman for not giving up on her pet.

She told him that she didn't find the daily walks troublesome, saying: "Having a dog means taking care of it for life."
His post has since garnered 17,000 likes, 739 comments and 3,200 shares.
The clip warmed many netizens' hearts, but some of them said that the dog's paws should not be 'dragging' on the ground as it might get hurt. Story, other dog owners made the news for abusing their pets.
On May 13, a Stomp contributor shared a video of a woman seen repeatedly hitting her dog with a stick on the balcony of a condominium unit. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said it is currently investigating the incident.
In March, members of the public also called SPCA for help after a clip of a man cornering and kicking his dog circulated on social media.
Those who witness acts of animal cruelty are urged to call the police immediately and inform SPCA through their 24/7 hotline, 6287 5355 Ext. 9
That dog has one wonderful human. My pooch has most certainly contributed to my health with our daily walks (sun/rain/sleet/hail/worse) that have occurred since we got him. Would not have it any other way.
Nice. Thanks for posting.
The dog is not only man’s best friend. The dog was man’s first friend.
You are welcome.
I have owned, LOVED MANY dogs in my long life.
I have two 15 year old Lhasa Apsos. (half brothers)
One is 95% deaf and blind. The other is 75% deaf and 50% blind.
Both are healthy otherwise (for their age) and we forgive them things we didn’t use to. They get some special care.
I can’t tell from the video for sure, but it seems past time to put him/her down.
It seems the “life” is already gone from this dog.
IMHO.
She might want to check the dog’s pulse.
My mom lost her last dog when she was 99 (my mom, not the dog). Having that dog meant that she had to climb down and up the stairs to her apartment at least three times a day.
After the dog died, she’d only make one trip out of her apartment every day or so. Within a few months my mom basically gave up on living. One day she couldn’t get out of bed and within a couple of months she died.
The dog gave her a reason to keep moving.
I love dogs in general...a lot and of course mine the most. But to have a pet is to care for them and do the very best you can to assure they have a quality life.
This poor animal should have been put down as soon as it became obvious it would never again walk. The kind of “love” exhibited by this woman is selfish in the extreme. She cares more about how she would feel without the dog than how the dog feels living that life.
I agree. It’s a hard decision, but part of being a pet parent. Vet medicine is very advanced now. They can keep your pet alive well after the expiration date. Sounds cold, but when my fur babies can no longer get around, it’s time to go to the rainbow bridge, mourn for a while, and open my heart to new fur babies in need of a loving home.
“...it’s time to go to the rainbow bridge,”
I have a photo collage of all my German Shepherds (6) which have died and the photos surround the Rainbow Bridge Memorial Poem.
Each time I look at the pics and read the poem it brings tears to my eyes.
Someone once said that Heaven is whatever you want it to be and if that is true and I am worthy to go then my choice is to go wherever all my dogs are.
My sweet little girl Beagle is getting older so something has gotten my eyes moistened up. Maybe reality striking?
More than that.
Interesting article. Thank you.
