Wildly inaccurate facts and spurious arguments are unavoidable features of social media. Yet no matter how infuriatingly wrong someone is, or just how much counter-evidence you have at your disposal, starting arguments on the internet rarely gets anyone to change their mind. Nearly a century-and-a-half ago, British philosopher John Stuart Mill explained, in a few clear sentences, why certain arguments simply won’t go anywhere. The archdiocese, which includes the District and its Maryland suburbs, received $10,350,027 for the 2019 Annual Appeal, compared with the 2018 total of $14,192,188, which is about where it had hovered since 2013. The drive was called “the Cardinal’s Appeal” until a year ago, when officials rebranded it to play down the image of high-ranking clerics. The annual fundraising drive in the nearby Arlington Diocese is still...

Deranged Doctrines in Francis’ Querida Amazonia Querida Amazonia (QA) contains some crazy statements which have gone unnoticed. In §5, Francis says he wants to awaken the whole world's “affection” for the Amazon region which he calls nothing less than a “sacred mystery,” a term which designates the Sacraments.According to Francis we cannot only “love” the Amazon region but “we can feel intimately a part of it.” As a consequence the region will become “like a mother to us” (55).Francis insists that we shouldn't view the peoples who live isolated from the outside world, as "'uncivilised' savages." Instead, he presents them euphemistically...

The accused bishops were Archbishop Socrates Villegas, Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, Bishop Honesto Ongtioco and Bishop Teodoro Bacani, retired prelate of Novaliches. Charges against Father Robert Reyes and La Salle Brother Armin Luistro were also dismissed. Charges were, however, filed against Jesuit priest Albert Alejo and...
