Two men found dead after searching for sasquatch in national forest

Two Oregon men who ventured into the woods of Washington state on a Christmas Eve hunt for Sasquatch have been found dead, authorities confirmed on Saturday.

The 59-year-old and 37-year-old, whose names have not yet been released, tragically failed to return from their expedition, sparking a frantic three-day search across the rugged Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

The men's deaths are believed to be the result of exposure to the harsh winter conditions.

With no signs of foul play or injury, authorities speculate that the pair's lack of preparation for the extreme weather may have led to their deaths.

The Sheriff's Office pointed out that the weather conditions and the men's inadequate gear were major factors in the fatal outcome.

The pair's ill-fated trip began on Christmas Eve when they set out to search for Sasquatch, the elusive creature of folklore often said to roam the forests of the Pacific Northwest.

But after the men failed to return to their holiday outing, a family member alerted authorities to their disappearance at around 1 am on Christmas Day.

A massive three-day search effort ensued, involving over 60 volunteers, including search-and-rescue teams, canine units, drones, and ground searchers.

The Coast Guard also joined the search, using infrared technology to scan the forest from the air.

Authorities eventually used camera footage to track down the men's vehicle, located off Oklahoma Road near Willard, about 150 miles northeast of Portland.

From there, the teams zeroed in on the remote, heavily wooded area where the bodies were discovered.

May we reasonably assume that alcohol might have been involved in the decision to go hunting????

I see idiot tourists all the time. Morons hiking in the Utah desert in summer without hats or water is the order of the day. A ranger in Canyonlands once told me anecdotes about the idiots from Europe they have to rescue each year because the morons are trying to get “the real desert experience” in July and August.

It’s good to have emergency communication availability if you’re going to a wilderness or other area outside of cell phone coverage areas. Apple phones (iPhone 14 or later) have that capability for folks who take the time to be familiar with it.

Mulder, you keep blaming it on aliens, the county medical examiner says exposure, but I want to investigate these dozens of 18-inch foot shaped contusions on each victim.

Being from Oregon does not mean they are seasoned winter woodsmen. I suspect they are city people.

I’ve watched many a movie and especially ads from outfitters where people are rigged up with clothing not at all suitable for winter hikes in a forest. It’s what sells, not what’s suitable is what they stores advertise. Some ads and especially movies are ludicrously stupid showing people without head and throat protection in below zero temps.

We live in the woods in northern ND and I have been going out in major below zero blizzards since I was a kid. It takes that sort of background to survive a bigfoot outing.

I had enough sense to limiting my hunts for Bigfoot to reading about them in Ivan T. Sanderson’s books in the 1960s.

Hard to believe they still hunt a fantasy creature.

Find your fire starter along the river where the wind always blows. As boy scouts we could start a fire in a swimming pool.

The river is at the bottom of a steep canyon 300 ft down through heavy brush, with lots of wet leaves to slip on. This is the PacNW, not the East Coast.

You first.

One word.
“”Booze””

I was getting ready to post the same thing...It would appear that the rest of the party was deep in the alcohol fog also if the two guys left on Christmas Eve and hadn’t yet returned by 1 AM Christmas Day????? That didn’t allow them much time to locate Sasquatch.

Where did you get the "no gear" detail from?

Lack of preparation for extremely rugged terrain and winter conditions doesn't mean "no gear."

Lolz! Go find yourself a broom to sweep up those split hairs. And while you are looking, try to figure out where "extremely" came from.

Do you believe they went with the proper gear but were simply not "mentally prepared" for their idiotic adventure? Hey, it could be their bodies were found next to unopened backpacks containing parkas and tents, right? Or maybe you think I am suggesting they roamed into the Pacific Northwest wilderness stark naked, is that it?

The article says the expected cause of death was exposure essentially brought about by inadequate equipment. And you want to "call out" semantics? How about I just insert the word "adequate" between the words "no", and "equipment", and see if that works for you.

Please tell me you are not this addled and you are just playing at a distinction with no difference.
(or perhaps you are and you want to double down ... !)

... if you’re going to a wilderness or other area outside of cell phone coverage areas....

That is against the rules. No one with a good camera at the ready ever finds one.... eyes only.

“Everyone knows Bigfoot hibernates for the winter. And they don’t like being disturbed.”

And that’s why Bigfoot killed them.

I've done a lot of hiking in the mountains (rugged terrain) in winter. You can be inadequately prepared and not know it until all of a sudden you're in a tight spot.

BTW, precise language is a good thing...except for sloppy people.

These were local guys, they knew the weather conditions, why would they venture out with out adequate gear.

Because going out into the forest to look for Sasquatch is something men decide to do only after they're hammered drunk.

Thank you so much for doubling down! This is among many laughs from this thread (that’s what “Lolz” means) and the second from you!

Are you always “extremely” addled and easy?
