Search a Western Pennsylvania Theater to Find 'Bigfoot'

A homicidal Bigfoot running wild in Western Pennsylvania stars in a locally made comedy/horror creature feature premiering this week.

“Bigfoot: The Movie” is the brainchild of Ellwood City native Jared Show, who directed and produced the film. “It’s about three town locals and yinzers who are on the hunt for Bigfoot,” Mr. Show said.

“A lot of these movies about Bigfoot are about people finding Bigfoot, or Bigfoot is their friend. Our Bigfoot’s not friendly at all. Our Bigfoot is mean, and it goes around killing people and eating cows.”

“Bigfoot” was filmed in and around Ellwood City, with some Pittsburgh locations.

The film stars Curt Wootton of the YouTube series “Pittsburgh Dad.” He co-wrote the “Bigfoot” screenplay with Mr. Show.

It also stars Joanie Dodds of “America's Next Top Model,” who’s originally from Beaver Falls. Mr. Wootton, Mr. Show and Nathan Magill — a friend of Mr. Show’s and another Ellwood City resident — play the trio of Bigfoot-busters.

The supporting cast includes plenty of familiar Pittsburgh faces, including Bill Crawford of the WDVE-FM morning show, comedian and KDKA-AM morning show regular Jim Krenn, comedians Terry Jones and Mike Wysocki and former WPXI news anchor Darieth Chisholm.

The film’s music is also homegrown, courtesy of Donnie Iris and Joe Grushecky.

Mr. Show now lives in Huntington Beach, Calif., where he has been doing post-production and editing, including work for “Sons of Anarchy.” He and Mr. Wootton lived in the same apartment complex on the West Coast. “We would always talk about Pennsylvania and growing up here, and how a lot of Pennsylvania movies didn’t really capture it. Like when you would watch a movie about Pittsburgh, no one really had the accent. We’re trying to capture the character of Pennsylvania.”

Wow that was quick. The Wookie hasn’t even moved out of the White Hut and there is a movie based on her life.
