'This YETI ain't ready:' SC man explodes YETI cooler after NRA said company severed ties

HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) – A Hartsville man wasn’t happy when the popular cooler maker YETI appeared to cut ties with the National Rifle Association.

So, he decided to take his frustration out on his YETI cooler by blowing it up.

Bryan Atkinson posted a Facebook Live video to his page on Monday that shows him destroying a YETI cooler that was full of Tannerite, a brand of patented explosive targets.

“There’s the famous YETI. There’s the famous 22 pounds of Tannerite. This YETI ain’t ready,” Atkinson said in the video.

Two men load the cooler into a truck and take it far out into a field. Atkinson then uses a rifle to blow up the cooler, creating a large plume of white smoke.

“YETI can’t stand behind the NRA, I ain’t standing behind YETI no more,” Atkinson said.

You need to be very VERY careful with Tannerite.
The main thing is to make damn sure you’re far enough away from the point of explosion. Tannerite is like a Honey Badger, it does not give a fk who gets what blown off their body.

Johnny Carson’s sidekick Ed McMahon had this figured out. He was spokesman for Budweiser. He said he never talked politics because the other side drinks beer too.

Not sure why anyone selling anything doesn’t just shut up and sell their product without endorsing any political position.

This is the response I got:

We’re writing in response to your recent email inquiry.

A few weeks ago, YETI notified the NRA Foundation, as well as a number of other organizations, that we were eliminating a group of outdated discounting programs. When we notified the NRA Foundation and the other organizations of this change, YETI explained that we were offering them an alternative customization program broadly available to consumers and organizations, including the NRA Foundation. These facts directly contradict the inaccurate statement the NRA-ILA distributed on April 20.

Further, the NRA-ILA stated in that same public communication that “[YETI has] declined to continue helping America’s young people enjoy outdoor recreational activities.” Nothing is further from the truth. YETI was founded more than 10 years ago with a passion for the outdoors, and over the course of our history we have actively and enthusiastically supported hunters, anglers and the broader outdoor community. We have been devoted to and will continue to directly support causes tied to our passion for the outdoors, including by working with many organizations that promote conservation and management of wildlife resources and habitat restoration. From our website to our film footage and from our social media posts to our ambassadors, YETI has always prominently featured hunters pursuing their passions. Moreover, YETI is unwavering in our belief in and commitment to the Constitution of the United States and its Second Amendment.

Thanks for reaching out to YETI.

That sounds like a BS response to me. They basically told the NRA they were welcome to be treated like any other consumer. They are more interested in the REI crowd than the NRA crowd and tried to pull a fast one.

Austin people... screw Yeti.

I don’t think Yeti’s damage control statement is working.

Yep, struck me as blather to cover their blunder, I bet they had no idea that kicking the NRA to the curb would result in the reaction they are getting.

Bad time to decide to eliminate outdated discount programs.

If they had named just one other organization affected if might have had more credibility.

Did YETI keep the money they received from when they sold him that cooler?

The best question I’ve heard to date. To CEO’s with low business IQ’s and big mouths: I don’t need to know your company’s politics if I want your product. If you insist on making them known I will in all likelihood NOT want anything you have to sell.

Had YETI never cozied up to NRA in the first place, folks wouldn’t now be acting like jilted lovers.

Maybe the green-outdoorsy crowd really will carry YETI in future.

There are more important weapons in the world than even guns, but very few people are aware of them because they let the other guy do it. These are spiritual weapons.

I sent the anti-gun bastards a letter, everyone else should do the same.

I’m getting sick and tired of liberal pukes pressuring companies to dump dealings with the NRA and sportsmen. From now on we have to tell them that trashing us is going to cost them a pretty penny!

But this also implies that even NRA aficionados can act like asses, which is a BAD BAD BAD thing for gun rights. Oh the gun rights guys? The ones who lost their cool and blew up their cooler which hadn’t done a single blessed thing to offend them? Those wonderful self-controlled people? They want more guns? Err... (cogs whirr inside green heads) we don’t think so.

Don’t crow too much about “God-given” rights when you know jolly well that “Daddy” can take your T-bird away.

You’re talking like this is about anything even close to what God authored real life to be like.

The folks who wondered why YETI ever got political are the sanest ones on here.

It has nothing to do with God or religion.

It is liberal pukes putting pressure on companies to dump dealing with gun owners and sportsmen.

Heh heh ha ha HA!

What goes on down here depends on EVERY way upon God.

Religion is just how man chooses to relate to God, and/or God’s enemies.
