Catching Hillary: You'd better be quick
Manchester Union Leader ^ | November 4, 2007 | Editorial

Americans are more likely to find Bigfoot than to discover Sen. Hillary Clinton's real position on Social Security. Why? Bigfoot left more clues.

Sen. Clinton has risen as high as she has in the polls by figuring out how many sides an issue has, and taking them. And although everyone has known for years that she operates this way, it was not until last week, the night before Halloween, that her triangulation came back to haunt her. Because that's how long it took for her opponents to start aggressively calling her on it.

In earlier debates, Clinton has gotten away with refusing to answer questions. This time her opponents and the moderator, knowing what was coming, were prepared. She dodged; they attacked, and she left the stage wounded.

Now we get to see whether any of her challengers besides John Edwards has the guts to go in for the kill. Edwards has the killer instinct. Does Sen. Barack Obama? So far he hasn't shown it.

Sen. Clinton wants voters to believe that real leadership involves stating vague preferences and letting others sort out the details once she's elected.

For example, on Social Security, she's merely for "fiscal responsibility." How does she define that? Well, she'll let a bipartisan commission decide. On letting illegal immigrants get driver's licenses, she thinks it "makes sense," but she "did not say that it should be done," and yet she "supports governors like Governor Spitzer who believe they need such a measure"¦"

Oh, OK.

Sen. Clinton has gotten away with this kind of obfuscation for years because members of her own party have let her. Now is the time for them to say to her, "No more!"

Democrats have an opportunity to show Sen. Clinton that they want leadership, not evasion. In New Hampshire, they should follow up on the good work her opponents and debate moderator Tim Russert did last week. When she dodges a question, keep asking it until she answers. Either she will start to lead, or she will reveal that she hasn't the capacity for it.

That's because a vice-presidential nomination and a shiny new Cadillac are worth more to him than a quixotic shot at being commander-in-chief.

In a “fair fight” like a debate, she’s not much - but get her with a bunch of goons ganging up on one person in a back (war) room - and she’s formidable. Creepy Hillary.

Except his recent half-assed attack on the beast shows that he can't completely get rid of the idea that all of the money people are sending him means he really has a chance to win the nomination.

If he was 100% determined to get the VP+Caddy consolation prize, he'd just keep singing his blackface politics-of-hope song and maybe even start throwing in some praises of the beast here and there, just to make sure that the beast looks favorably on him at vp-decision time.

After all, you know she's going to want a boot-licking sycophant and I'm sure politics-of-hope can be morphed into steppin-fetchitism, no problem.

But the problem for shoe-shine-Obama is that he's not entirely convinced he wants the boot-lickin' job, which might end up losing it for him and making him some kind of weird and irrelevant outcast celebrity during the time of The Great Beast WH years.

Better watch out, Obama. You're uppitiness is going to get you sent to the woodshed, faster than you can say, "yes massa Hillary".

Could be. Or, it might simply be a ruse designed to make him appear to have some independence.

Hellary is going to waltz all the way to the finish line. Nobody is going to dare seriously call her again on anything, even the hapless GOP. The MSM will protect her and cover her hoofs tracks. They always have and always will. Her Goon Squad do the heavy hitting to ultimately make sure of that. Just ask Vince Foster and Ron Brown. Oh, wait a minute,... never mind.

This is going to be an ugly election. If she wins, the aftermath will be even uglier (and more deadly). America is in real peril now.

I was voicing the Democratic Party establishment view of African Americans — that they only are useful to the extent that they remain down on the welfare plantation — and not my own attitude. I’m sorry you don’t have the mental acuity to get subtlety and sarcasm.

Can someone post the cartoon of Condi Rice step-fetchin for Massa Bush? Those “progressive” nitwits lowered the bar along time ago. I am sure Bill Oreily will use that post as proof that FR is a hate site but then again, Bill Oreily is a turd.

Oh I got it alright. But sarcasm was hardly subtle.
