Yesterday, President Obama signed a presidential memorandum establishing a taskforce to work on first lady Michelle Obama's new issue: childhood obesity. The taskforce has 90 days to report back to the president on a suggested inter-agency strategy and action plan to help children be more active and eat better – because, of course, putting interior secretary Ken Salazar on the case will change children's eating habits.

These days, though, it isn't just parents' budgets that are lean. President Obama himself called for an across-the-board spending freeze (outside of the military and entitlement programmes) in his state of the union address, and his proposed budget was lean in some of the very areas that the anti-obesity initiative is going to encourage more spending.
For instance, school lunch programmes will see a 20 cent per lunch increase in the 2011 budget, which advocates say amounts to, at best, one apple a day and isn't enough to fund healthier meals or more fresh fruits and vegetables. It provides only $4m to continue equipping the nation's farmers markets with computer equipment to allow them to accept food stamps, an amount that no one believes will lead to universal farmers market access for people who use food stamps. It provides only $50m over the course of the next few years as part of a larger programme to try to increase the number of food retailers and nutritious foods in urban and rural areas that are underserved by grocery stores.

imagine the social good she could have done by taking on teenage pregnancy and unwed motherhood as unacceptable road to poverty and emotional instability .... something a black first lady could pull off better than a white one

All of these “First Ladies” causes are pretty useless. Michelle’s is just more socialist in that she wants to tell us what to eat, when to eat, when to go to the bathroom, etc.
Why should my tax dollars go to helping Michelle Obama find ways to reduce the size of her big, fat keister? Or anyone else’s for that matter? I’ll take care of my butt and everyone else can fend for themselves. This is absurd. First Ladies should be unseen and not heard.
The United States dropped a bunch of dead marxist/socialist political weight in past decades but it seems to just creep back again and again.
Top chefs are working with public schools systems to develop new and better lunch programs in many cities across the country. I know of one in NY. The chef was shocked by the budget he was given. With that kind of money the kids could be eating like kings.
I recall the Pres and his VP hanging with the ‘people’ for photo ops. They were always pictured at the local burger joint downing a Double-Chubby-Chuck with cheese and a side of greasy fries......

If there is one thing leftists are good at, it is creating shortages. Look at Russia under Stalin or Cuba under Castro.
These traitor administration talks about obesity as a threat to national security, wile China is expanding the size and sophistication of their nuclear arsenal, Russia is modernizing their huge nuclear arsenal, giving the Russians a first strike capability, and Iran and North Korea are rattling their nuclear sabres. And this is all going on while we are shrink the size of the our nuclear deterrent capability and the overall size of what is already a scaled down US military. We are also talking about a US military where political correctness trumps sanity in terms of calling Islam the enemy that it is and removing all vestiges of Islam from our forces. Oh yes, I almost forgot, we are also pushing to add out of the closet fudge-packers to our ranks, further increasing unit cohesiveness and our overall combat capability.
I can see why the Zero administration would consider obesity as a threat to national security....
Okay...I heard Laura Ingraham say this was a $10 BILLION (with a B) program? IS THAT TRUE????
If Michelle wants to do
stuff
like this it’s OK with me as long as she sticks with public education and awareness. It’s when she starts trying to pass laws about this that I draw the line.
