New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy lashed out at anti-vaccination protesters during a speech announcing the state’s extension of the eviction moratorium. "You've lost your minds. You are the ultimate knuckleheads. And because of what you are saying and standing for, people are losing their life," Murphy said to a crowd of anti-vaccination protesters attempting to interrupt the event. The tense exchange came after Murphy encouraged those in attendance to get the coronavirus vaccine, saying the state was at "an inflection point in our fight, not just against the COVID pandemic, but also against the tremendous upheaval for thousands and thousands...

Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke mocked President Trump’s claims of victory in the recent deal reached with Mexico to avert his threatened tariffs – calling the president’s claims “overblown” and arguing that he has hurt the economic ties between Washington and its closest neighbor. “I think the president has completely overblown what he purports to have achieved. These are agreements that Mexico had already made and, in some case, months ago,” the former congressman from Texas said on ABC’s “This Week.” “They might have accelerated the timetable, but by and large the president achieved nothing except to jeopardize the most...

Expansion of the Turner Turnpike between Sapulpa and Bristow is anticipated to be done by early next summer — months ahead of the initially announced estimated completion date.“This is a long-term project, and we ask the public for their patience because the end results are going to be tremendous,” said Oklahoma Turnpike Authority spokesman Jack Damrill.“We should have whatever is currently under construction substantially complete by summer,” he said. “Unless we have a terrible winter, we should have all six lanes open summer of 2019.”He said the project has been progressing “very nicely.” The 22-mile, $300 million project involves expanding...

The Federal Communications Commission announced Friday that it was putting on hold a controversial study of American newsrooms, after complaints from Republican lawmakers and media groups that the project was too intrusive. FCC spokeswoman Shannon Gilson said Chairman Tom Wheeler agreed with critics that some of the study's proposed questions for reporters and news directors "overstepped the bounds of what is required."

Speeding tickets generate revenue for the city or county in which they’re issued. If the police department is low on revenue, they’ll set up a speed trap on a busy road and lie in wait for the non-violent speed violators. If the city is really desperate, they’ll invest in a speed camera system that will be distributed around the city and send citations to the registered owners of the alleged speeding vehicles. And if they’re still not happy with the money they’re making, they’ll start issuing speeding tickets to people who aren’t even speeding. In Baltimore, Maryland, they’ve generated over...

The Sheriff's Office is wrapping up its investigation of the youth football brawl that was captured on videotape last weekend, and expects to announce any charges on Friday. The investigation has centered on four suspects who took part in the melee; sheriff's Col. Steve Burns says all four of them have provided statements to law enforcement and are "cooperating." The video shows that aggressors in the fight were mainly coaches and players from the Sarasota Gators football team. The coach of the other team on the field Saturday, Mike Cody of the North Port Husky's, on Thursday called it a...

Here is video of Vice-President Joe Biden telling Larry King that "the idea of there being a massive attack on the United States like 9-11 is unlikely in my view." King had asked Biden about reports that intelligence officials believe the U.S. will face another terrorist attack for certain in the next few months. Biden said Al-Qaeda has turned its attention to smaller-scale attacks, and it is very possible we will see such attempts in the months ahead. (VIDEO)

MGM and the Farrelly brothers are closing in on their cast for "The Three Stooges." Studio has set Sean Penn to play Larry, and negotiations are underway with Jim Carrey to play Curly, with the actor already making plans to gain 40 pounds to approximate the physical dimensions of Jerome "Curly" Howard. The studio is zeroing in on Benicio Del Toro to play Moe. The film is not a biopic, but rather a comedy built around the antics of the three characters that Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Howard played in the Columbia Pictures shorts. The quest by the Peter...

Campaigning in New Hampshire today, Duncan Hunter, long shot candidates for President in 2008, announced earlier today that he was to make a major announcement, setting in place speculation that he was ending his bid for the White House. Hunter, Congressman from California’s 52nd District the past 26 years, has been making a bid to be the nominee of the Republican Party and struggling to be noticed, often being ignored by major media sources that seem to prefer other more “polished” candidates. In spite of growing support at the grassroots level and finishing third in the second primary in Wyoming,...

I grew up in a home in which Franklin Roosevelt was regarded as a saint. Is it any wonder that it took me so many years before I finally saw the light? As a rule, I don’t approve of people who lay their own shortcomings at the feet of their parents, but when I realize that for no other reason than the way I was raised that I actually voted for Jimmy Carter, it’s awfully tempting to blame my folks. But whoever is at fault, it is certainly high time to acknowledge how much harm was done to this country...

The California conference of entrepreneurs, scientists, celebs, and politicians highlights the environment, Rwanda, and war photos, among other topics In recent years, the TED conference has gained a reputation for blissfully big ideas buoyed by unrelenting optimism. So few conference goers were prepared for venture capitalist John Doerr to choke up with emotion as he kicked off the second day of talks on Mar. 9. "I'm scared," he told the audience, looking down at his 15-year-old daughter in the front row. "I don't think we're going to make it." Doerr issued a passionate call to action for everyone to make...

The year’s least-skilled criminals Sunday, December 31, 2006 Kevin Mayhood THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH Pastor Kevin Lentz had just finished a wedding at Holy Family Church in Franklinton on Aug. 12 when two homeless men tried to sell him a camera for $50. "They told me they found it in an alley," Lentz said. He thought they must have broken into a car but knew the only way to ensure that the camera got back to its owner was to buy it. He did, the men left and Lentz called police. The owner, Dave Back, was in a cruiser with officers,...

Last week, MTV celebrated its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter of a century after having conceived of the first actually new thing in popular television entertainment since "American Bandstand" and "Soul Train." The music video became a big deal through MTV and not only updated the old "soundies" once shown in movie theaters to feature singers and instrumentalists. It also revolutionized the making of films by acclimating its audience to the extremely fast crosscutting that had been pioneered in television commercials, where the faster the message arrived, the better. In the process, the MTV audience learned to see much more...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- NASCAR said it was "outrageous" that "Dateline NBC" targeted one of its racetracks last weekend for a possible segment on anti-Muslim sentiment in the United States. NASCAR said NBC confirmed it was sending Muslim-looking men to a race, along with a camera crew to film fans' reactions. The NBC crew was "apparently on site in Martinsville, Va., walked around and no one bothered them," NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Wednesday. "It is outrageous that a news organization of NBC's stature would stoop to the level of going out to create news instead of reporting news," Poston said....

Wanna get snarky? (from the site:) To win back Congress and the White House in the next four years, Democrats need to take action now. Protestors in DC tell Bush he has no mandate. You can help. Attend a DNC Regional Caucus in Sacramento this Saturday, or New York City on the 29th. Hear the DNC Chair candidates' plans and let delegates know that we want a Chairman who stands for the grassroots. Raise...

According to the Military's official report of the Kabul bomb tragedy last January, which cost three Danish and two German soldiers their lives, soldiers working on two unexploded missiles indiscriminately used hammers, chisels and many other tools unfit for the job, and acted in a completely irresponsible manner. The report also states that it was only a malfunction in one of the missiles that prevented many more fatalities. Defence Chief Jesper Helsø said that the military is now planning to introduce new psychological screening methods when choosing minesweeping personnel in the future, because '…something obviously went wrong in the heads...
