Speeding tickets generate revenue for the city or county in which theyre issued. If the police department is low on revenue, theyll set up a speed trap on a busy road and lie in wait for the non-violent speed violators. If the city is really desperate, theyll invest in a speed camera system that will be distributed around the city and send citations to the registered owners of the alleged speeding vehicles. And if theyre still not happy with the money theyre making, theyll start issuing speeding tickets to people who arent even speeding.
In Baltimore, Maryland, theyve generated over $48 million in revenue in the past three years since they implemented their speed camera system. But from all the 1.7 million citations issued, there were bound to be some faulty tickets.
One Baltimore driver was parked at a red light, and the two photos on the speeding citation that he received in the mail clearly show his car not moving at all. He even saw the video of when the camera snapped the pictures, and his car was motionless. Yet he got a ticket for going 38mph in a 25mph zone.

Maryland “Freak State” PING!

.....again... [grooooannnn]
Overwhelm the system. Fight every ticket. Every single one. I recently beat a DC red light camera ticket.
The city of St. Petersburg, FL recently released statistics showing that red light cameras actually INCREASE accidents at intersections.
They won’t pay any attention to this, I’m sure.
Better yet, destroy the cameras. Time to take down the police state tactics. This crap is getting way out of hand.
Years ago, the City of Philadelphia, used to send out parking tickets to people all over the state who had never even been in Philly or at least had never had their cars parked there. They sent out so many that it caught the attention of state authorities who forced them to back off from that scam.
Here in MD, they had to install a camera to watch the speed camera.
Someone else attacked a mobile camera and disappeared into the woods.

I agree with unifox. The most American I’ve ever felt was standing at the Berlin wall thinking, “We would never stand for this in the US — ordinary people would mess it up constantly just on principle.” Where did folks like “Cool Hand Luke” go?
They make high powered air guns for a reason after all...
The driver probably intended to speed after the light turned green.

Exactly. If he can’t prove he wasn’t thinking that, double his fine.
I just paid a $165 fine for sitting in bumper to bumper traffic holding my cell in front of me on speaker phone.
Maryland - a very democrat state. That explains it all.
Parked at a red light??? Doesn't he mean, STOPPED? Reporters, bah!
Why would they?
It's not about safety or the law, it's all about revenue!
Going after criminals is dangerous business, fat lady cops can get hurt.
Better to catch your mom going 28 in a 25 and cash in!
Not so much true here in FL. According to St. Pete city council, they paid $900,000 for the system and only made $600,000 in the first year. They missed revenue expectations by quite a large margin.
He was going nowhere fast!
