During the presidential campaign, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin highlighted Barack Obama's connection to former Weather Underground member Bill Ayers – charging that the candidate was "palling around with terrorists." Now Ayers wants to bury the hatchet with a joint talk show. "Pallin' Around with Sarah and Bill," is the name Ayers has come up with, according to a report by CNN. Though Ayers sent her a note after the election touting the virtues of such a show, he concedes, "I haven't heard back." The revelation will be featured in the next New York Times magazine. Not surprisingly, Ayers was not...

I went to visit Sen. Arlen Specter to save him from an embarrassing pro-stimulus vote that will damage America's economy and send the nation back to 1970s-style stagflation. Jim Robinson, founder of FreeRepublic.com, and I arrived at Sen. Specter's office with a group of folks who oppose the $1.5 trillion stimulus package, on this past Monday morning. We asked to see Sen. Specter. The office secretary didn't seem to be happy to see us. I could not blame her. We were there to embarrass her boss. Jim, wearing his Navy cap, asked about the senator's whereabouts, but the secretary wasn't...

A lawsuit that accuses Congress of failing to investigate President Obama's birthplace before approving the Electoral College vote giving him the presidency has been amended to include additional claims of rights violations, including unequal treatment, because Congress did such an investigation into GOP candidate Sen. John McCain. That word comes from Mario Apuzzo, the lawyer handling the case on which WND previously has reported. The case raises many of the same arguments as dozens of other cases that have flooded into courtrooms around the nation since the November election. The case was brought by Apuzzo on behalf of Charles F....

Wow, that first question by that AP reporter sure seemed to catch our Hussein off guard. He was expecting more of a soft ball. He's been stuttering, reaching for some kind of cogent thought. What a LITE WEIGHT!

This is the authoritative text on Marxist Pants. The general thesis of this article is that Marxist Pants have a potent influence on Americans class-identification and that this influence, furthermore, is degrading the American Way of Life. Marxism is a volatile pseudo-philosophy which attempts to subordinate all other possible modes of existence to itself. It is especially hostile to the American Way of Life. The insertion of Marxist Pants into our sanguine society is something every American citizen should be concerned about. Without the knowledge contained below, any attempt to fight against this scourge of seductive socialist pants will be...

A new Web site popped up over the weekend, called DeanForHHS.com. It is a grassroots campaign that wants to urge President Barack Obama to appoint Gov. Howard Dean as the new Secretary of Health and Human Services. There is a corresponding Facebook page to go along with the Web site. Since the departure of Sen. Tom Daschle several names have risen up in consideration, from the ridiculous (Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, really as if he would leave the governorship to his Republican side-kick) to the serious, former N.J. Sen. Bill Bradley (well liked, smart, could work with both sides).

From crisis to catastrophe. Off a cliff. Dark, darker, darkest. Mortal danger of absolute collapse. Armageddon. President Obama and top Democrats on Capitol Hill are deploying these and other stark predictions of doom and gloom to push through their economic-stimulus package. In terms not heard in Washington since the late 1970s under President Jimmy Carter's watch, the new president has sought to terrify Americans into supporting the $800 billion-plus bailout bill.

President Obama on Saturday morning warned of a "national catastrophe" if Congress does not move quickly to pass and implement his economic-stimulus plan, praising the Senate's tentative deal on an $827 billion version of the bill. "If we don't move swiftly to put this plan in motion, our economic crisis could become a national catastrophe. Millions of Americans will lose their jobs, their homes and their health care. Millions more will have to put their dreams on hold," Mr. Obama said in his weekly radio address. The president, joined elsewhere Saturday by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, continued to wage a...

The decision to shut down the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay was a dream come true for many Europeans, including anti-terrorism officials who largely have condemned the facility. But European officials admit that dismantling Gitmo could be something of a nightmare. The foreign ministers of the European Union recently vowed to help President Barack Obama keep his promise to shutter the prison on the coast of Cuba in a year. They offered to provide refuge for as many as 60 inmates who could face persecution in their native lands.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is expected to announce that the government will become a partner with the private sector to purchase banks' troubled assets, according to people familiar with the matter. The plan for a so-called aggregator bank, a variation on a theme that Obama administration officials have wrestled with for weeks, is among four main components of Mr. Geithner's bailout revamp, which he is expected to announce Tuesday......

McConnell Statement on Proposed $820 Billion Spending Bill‘But as near as we can tell, even after those efforts, it is roughly the same size as the House bill. The Senate bill, under the compromise, we believe, would be about $827 billion.’WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following remarks on the Senate floor Friday regarding the Democrats’ agreement on the trillion-dollar spending bill: “The question of whether or not the economy needs help is really not in debate. I don't think there's a single member of the Senate that believes that no action is the appropriate...

The recently passed U.S. House of Representatives stimulus bill contains $816 billion in new spending and tax cuts. Of this sum, $264 billion (32 percent) is new means-tested welfare spending. This represents about $6,700 in new welfare spending for every poor person in the U.S. But this welfare spending is only the tip of the iceberg. The bill sets in motion another $523 billion in new welfare spending that is hidden by budgetary gimmicks. If the bill is enacted, the total 10-year extra welfare cost is likely to be $787 billion. The claim that Congress is temporarily increasing welfare spending...

Newsweek: Celebrating America as a New, Socialist France by Warner Todd Huston Sunday, February 8th 2009 Newsweek’s Jon Meacham and Evan Thomas are tired of all this talk of socialism. We need to stop talking about yesterday’s news, they say, and embrace the great new fact that America is already a socialist country. They chortle that America is just like France. Meacham and Thomas chide Sean Hannity for using socialism as a dirty word because it “seems strangely beside the point.” The pair is enthusiastic about our new American socialist society! We are a European country and we like it,...

Treasury postponing new financial rescue plan announcement to TuesdayWASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- A key Obama administration official said Sunday that new, soon-to-be-announced financial measures by the Treasury will include creating incentives for the private sector to invest in troubled banks. "It can't all be private capital, but with the right kinds of government guarantees and the right kinds of financing, strategic approaches, [Treasury Secretary Timothy] Geithner believes we can bring in substantial private capital," said Obama's chief economic advisor Lawrence Summers on Fox News Sunday. One measure the Treasury is considering would create a "bad bank" or "aggregator bank" that would...
