Newsweek: Celebrating America as a New, Socialist France
by Warner Todd Huston Sunday, February 8th 2009
Newsweeks Jon Meacham and Evan Thomas are tired of all this talk of socialism.
We need to stop talking about yesterdays news, they say, and embrace the great new fact that America is already a socialist country.
They chortle that America is just like France.
Meacham and Thomas chide Sean Hannity for using socialism as a dirty word because it seems strangely beside the point. The pair is enthusiastic about our new American socialist society!
We are a European country and we like it, claim the Newsweek duo. Unfortunately, they seem to misunderstand so very much about what they speak.
One of the worst tactics that the morally bankrupt use to justify an argument is that of moral equivalence. This Newsweek article employs this strategy at nearly every turn. For instance, the piece chides Republicans for the excess of the Bush years as some sort of balm on our turn to socialism.

There will be blood.
Without reading the article (I will not read articles by Newsweak) I can predict with a high degree of confidence they have never read “The Road to Serfdom”.
My first thought too.....those are FIGHTING WORDS!!
It’s weird how the newly arrived immigrants have been able to get so many Americans to assimilate into their cultures.
That would be our own NEA which loves to cram diversity down a child’s throat from day one.
It's also very important to realize and remember that the only reason liberals want and like socialism is because it makes them more important. When the government runs everything, those in the government become more important. It's not about ‘a better world’, or ‘justice’, or fairness etc. It's about ego, plain and simple. The arrogance and ego demonstrated by Bill Ayers is a perfect example.
Hope my friends and relatives...and some now non-friends....read this....and realize I WAS telling them the truth before the election.
People will figure it out, but probably too late.
I'm going to say something I've said several times on different threads. This phenomenon, of losing friends and family because of the politics of today, is very telling.
When taught of the Civil War one always asks how brother could have fought against brother. It's something that we couldn't imagine. But now..it's imagineable. And that is the litmus test for another.
Newsweak has become as far left as MSNBC. They make no attempt to hide their outright Marxism and more. They’ve gone so far left they actually make the commies at Time look “moderate”.
All it reveals is what we’ve always known - that most liberals in the media are diehard socialists. And they don’t seem to see the contradictions between their six-figure salaries and their socialist pap. They believe they are the elites that will ride out a sour economy in style while they inflict suffering on the rest of us. They believe this even as newspapers die and television ratings tank. There are no words to describe the level of contempt I feel for them.
Ditto. And it makes it really hard when some of the moonbats that voted for zero are family members.
Newsweek and MSNBC are related. Kissin’ cousins so to speak, and the incest is palpable.
Somewhere around 2000, MSNBC linked up with Newsweek, and it was all downhill from there. I’d watched the cable channel regularly when John Gibson and Patty Ann Brown were there, before that merger of MSNBC/Newsweek interests had made the shows unbearable. Now won’t go near it.
Makes sense. I wondered why so many newsweak writers kept spewing their commie opinions (disguised as news) on Olberboy, etc.
So now I have read enough!!!!!
It’s time to predict the future. There will be a revolution and it will be in the next five years. Call it a revolution or call it a Civil War but it WILL happen. And I got news for you folks. This time, the rebels win. Because the rebels here are the same people who truly built this nation. The rebels here are the same ones who sowed the seeds of liberty with their own blood.
The second American Revolution is coming and mark my words, things will change. No peaceful resolution is possible with portions of the population given equal franchise to elect crazies like Conyers, Waters, Pelosi, Reid and Frank. And when the revolution is over and the United States is reformed, we will not honor the debts of that nation which illegally borrowed against the best wishes of the RESPONSIBLE portion of the populace. The trillions will be lost by all the jerks who invested in these losers. Your US Bonds will be as worthless as confederate bonds were in 1966.
Out of the ashes will come a new nation of responsible citizenship and spending. The right to vote will be earned like a driver’s licence and be granted to those who truly have skin in the game. The freeloaders will be given a diminished voice as fits their contribution. The days of the “on the dole” lifestyle will be gone. Many of those who are currently spreading their wings in Washington will be criminals and dealt with accordingly.
It is coming.
I agree, but the Marxists own the military, its weapons and are probably reading this via the NSA right now.
We are not out skinning raccoons for dinner while someone plays “Johnny Reb” on a banjo.
You are talking the slaughter of millions, not thousands, like in the Civil War.
Modern Marxism has killed millions in China, Russia, North Korea, Cambodia and Cuba.
What most people (not FReepers) don’t understand is that the Left WANTS Communism as they would be the party members living the good life, with armed escorts as the gun-less, business-free, politically correct society will look to John Kerry or Barbara Boxer for its food, clothing, housing and job.
It is the USSR redux in 2009, but the MSM is part of the plan, so they encourage it by burying stories, spinning others and outright lying on others.
The revolution would be disaster, it would almost feel like attacking Britain in the late 18th Century...oh, we did that, at great sacrifice.
Count me in.
