Dramatic footage shows the electric double-decker ablaze at the bus depot in west London at around 6pm on Wednesday evening. Dark grey smoke can be seen billowing from the depot as the flames ripped through the number 23 bus, which serves routes from Westbourne Park to Aldwych. Four fire engines and 25 firefighters were dispatched to tackle the inferno and were able to bring the fire under control by around 7pm. No injuries were reported. The bus and two charging points were destroyed in the fire. Nearby Tube station Westbourne Park was closed after the fire broke out, reopening just...

A bus fire in Switzerland killed at least six people and left three others hospitalized with severe injuries, police said Tuesday. They said they were investigating whether the blaze was intentionally set by someone on the bus. Police spokesperson Frederic Papaux of Fribourg canton, or region, said the inferno broke out Tuesday evening on a bus in the town of Kerzers, about 15 miles west of Bern, the Swiss capital. "At this stage, we have elements suggesting a deliberate act by a person who was inside the bus," Papaux said at a news conference, according to Reuters news agency. Police...

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has made "fast and free buses" a defining promise of his administration, framing the proposal as both an affordability measure and a long-overdue fix for a bus system that advocates say has been neglected for decades. But his big swing seems poised to collide with the political realities of New York City. Supporters argue fare-free buses would reduce conflict, improve safety, and offer immediate relief to riders who depend on buses the most. Skeptics, including on-air pundits and transit organizations, warn the idea risks creating a major funding gap for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority...

A man in his 30s from Jerusalem attempted this morning (Sunday) to set a 12-year-old boy on fire during a bus ride on Route 375, near Beitar Illit. The boy, who was on his way to an educational institution in Beitar Illit, was lightly injured in his hands. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the fire was reported at 9:20 a.m. on Foothill Boulevard, just below the 210 Freeway overpass. No children were aboard at the time, and the driver was transported to a local hospital for minor smoke inhalation injuries. Aerial footage showed a large plume of smoke emerging from below the underpass. The smoke led to the closure of the Osbourne Street offramp, according to Caltrans. Fire crews were at the scene but appeared to keep their distance from the flames. Experts say fires involving lithium-ion batteries, commonly used in electric vehicles, are typically controlled...

The largest town in America has been held in contempt by a New York judge for releasing just 17 of nearly 3,000 emails sought in a battle over alleged illegally issued school-bus-camera tickets. State Supreme Court Justice Maureen McHugh Heitner last week ruled that the failure of the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, Long Island, to produce the roughly 3,000 records amounted to “willful disobedience and resistance.” The town had agreed to release the records after signing an agreement in June with the Brooklyn-based Aron Law PLLC, which is repping accused scofflaws — yet Hempstead has produced only 17...

America seems more scary and violent than ever these days. The news is filled with weirdness. Ice Cube is on tour and rolled into Portland, Oregon, and parked at the corner of SW Oak and Broadway was Cube performed Monday night (September 22) at the Moda Center. It appears that someone firebombed the bus. There was extensive damage, but no one was injured. Did someone get confused about the “ice” in “Ice Cube?” Was the bus confused with an ICE detention bus? Who knows?

Several ambulances and medical helicopters transported patients from the crash. “There was glass all...

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California is spending $500 million to put an additional 1,000 electric school buses on the road as federal cuts and freezes paused efforts in other states to replace aging diesel-fueled fleets that are more polluting. Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office announced Wednesday that 1,000 zero-emission school buses and related charging infrastructure will be provided to over 130 rural, low-income and disadvantaged school districts. The state grants add about 500 more charging stations for school buses to more than 200 stations already in operation in districts. The expansion contrasts efforts in other states that were hampered by the...
