HOUSTON — Once surveillance images were released, it was only a matter of hours before authorities found and arrested two suspects believed to be responsible for a deadly shooting on a METRO bus in west Houston. A source close to the investigation said the suspects were identified after investigators circulated images of them to Houston-area school resource officers.
Houston police identified the suspect believed to have fired the fatal shot as 17-year-old Brayden Smith, who has been charged with murder. The other suspect was identified as Patrick Scott, 18. He's been charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, authorities said.
The shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Smith fired the shots that killed a 25-year-old victim. Scott allegedly returned fire, injuring another teenage passenger.
When officers arrived at the shooting scene, they found 25-year-old Caitlin Stup suffering from a gunshot wound. She later died at the hospital. A 16-year-old male was also wounded in the shooting and was released from the hospital Thursday morning.
The Alief Independent School District confirmed with KHOU 11 that Smith is a current student and Scott is a former student.
Court records show Scott was in court on an unrelated charge of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon on Tuesday, a day before the shooting. He was recently released from custody after his bond was lowered from $50,000 to $15,000 in November. That charge stems from an incident last summer.
"He's already out on bond for a misdemeanor evading as well as a felony aggravated robbery. One of the conditions of his aggravated robbery is not to possess any weapons," the state said.
Court records show that Smith was already on probation for attempting to commit aggravated robbery in an unrelated case.

Dead white girl.
At least it happened in Texas, where there will be a proper account held.
One day maybe we’ll get past being called racists and put “these” people in prison where they belong. I’m just kidding. It’ll never happen as long as they can vote.

Gun control works.
Not.
I’m not from Texas.
Is Houston the bluest stain on a Red State or is it fruits and nuts Austin?
what would furry say?
It is THEM again isn’t it BooBoo?
At least it happened in Texas, where there will be a proper account held.
Not very encouraging that the suspect was OUT ON A LOWERED BOND, for another incident ... and wasn’t supposed to be in possesion of firearms.
A lot of good that did for this victim.
It is the drain for Texas. The lowest part of the state. A cesspool.
A future doctor and a future lawyer. Their careers are on hold for a few years.
Where are the riots for this victim?
Oh, that’s right.
“””At least it happened in Texas, where there will be a proper account held.”””
Yes, if it happened in Lubbock, TX. In Houston I am not so sure there will be a proper account held.
They're about equal, but Houston is bigger in population so it is a bigger stain in that regard.
It’s them an boo boo.
...The Alief Independent School District confirmed with KHOU 11 that Smith is a current student...
I'll wager that he was a 10th grader.
Apparently both were out on probation and bond:
“Smith is out on ‘juvenile’ probation for attempting to commit aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Scott is out on reduced bond for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Neither man may legally posses a firearm.”
Both out on “aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon” the judges in these cases should be tried along with the perps.
Robbing and a stabbing, shooting and a looting , Johnny you’re too bad.
Some white lady judge lowered the bail for one of the parties, he should have been in jail. Instead a bystander, a white woman on her way to work, is murdered . The judge should be charged as an accomplice to the murder.
Sounds like Texas needs a new law that makes it illegal to break the law making it illegal to illegally possess an illegal firearm. And an additional law if the ammunition is illegal. And probably another law that makes it illegal to commit a felony when you’re on probation for one felony and out on bail for another felony.
That should resolve the problems . . .
