Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), a potential Democrat presidential primary candidate, is again calling for the abolishment of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which enforces the nation’s immigration laws. Ocasio-Cortez won her congressional race in 2018 partly on a platform that promised to dismantle and ultimately abolish ICE, even suggesting that illegal aliens deserve a “right of passage” into the United States. Ocasio-Cortez eventually dropped the “Abolish ICE” talking point from her stump speech after polls found that even a majority of Democrats did not want the federal agency to be wiped out. In a new campaign email, just as...

WASHINGTON — Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, is renewing efforts to fully eliminate the Transportation Security Administration, accusing the federal agency of inefficiency and invading travelers’ privacy. Lee, along with Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., introduced the Abolish the TSA Act on Thursday, which would dissolve the TSA and establish a separate Office of Aviation Security Oversight to manage airport security. The office would operate completely under the Federal Aviation Administration and transfer security activities and equipment to private companies instead.

The U.S. Forest Service manages 78% of the land in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Yet, a hiring freeze on seasonal workers and recent firings of key staff have gutted an already-stretched-thin agency, putting on hold critical work in water quality, environmental restoration and forest fuels reduction projects while also diminishing the forest service’s capacity to manage the millions of visitors who come to Lake Tahoe every year — especially on the Fourth of July. Eleven people who work at the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit lost their jobs last month in the so-called “Valentine’s Day Massacre” led by Elon Musk’s...

An executive order — which President Donald Trump is expected to sign sometime this month — was expected to lay out a two-part strategy for shuttering the agency. The Trump administration is finalizing plans to dismantle the Education Department through an executive order that would build on the president’s campaign promise to hammer the longtime conservative target. The order — which President Donald Trump is expected to sign sometime this month, according to a White House official — was expected to lay out a two-part strategy for shuttering the agency, according to two people familiar with the plans and granted...

With conservatives back in power, public media is getting back to what it really excels at. No, not objective, impartial reporting. If NPR and PBS focused on that, they wouldn’t need to be so good at their side hustle: desperately lobbying Congress not to defund them. Now that they’re good at. The lobbying efforts have worked every time conservatives have had power, going back to when President Lyndon Johnson created the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in the late 1960s. Every Republican president after Johnson has tried to defund, dissolve, or reform public broadcasting. Yet the CPB is still standing, and...

Elon Musk’s call to delete the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has ignited a fierce debate over the future of financial regulation in America. Musk called for the elimination of the CFPB, describing it as an example of excessive regulatory duplication. Many consider the CFPB to be unconstitutional. Musk’s Bold ProposalDuring a social media campaign, Elon Musk issued a clarion call to end the existence of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Musk labeled the bureau as a redundancy, implying it crippled economic dynamics through its bureaucratic control. Critics and supporters have emerged from various corners as the proposal took the...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Throughout his campaign, President-elect Donald Trump heaped scorn on the federal Department of Education, describing it as being infiltrated by “ radicals, zealots and Marxists.” He has picked Linda McMahon, a former wrestling executive, to lead the department. But like many conservative politicians before him, Trump has called for dismantling the department altogether — a cumbersome task that likely would require action from Congress. The agency's main role is financial. Annually, it distributes billions in federal money to colleges and schools and manages the federal student loan portfolio. Closing the department would mean redistributing each of those...

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, appointments of President-elect Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, gave their approval to a proposal that abolishes the Department of Education. Corey DeAngelis, who is a senior fellow at the American Culture Project, posted on X that the Department of Education failed an audit for the third year in a row. "Abolish it," DeAngelis, a prominent school choice advocate, wrote. "Very reasonable proposal." Ramaswamy responded. "Yes," Musk, the owner of Tesla, added. The Department of Government Efficiency, also called DOGE, is aimed at suggesting ways to dismantle government bureaucracy and restructure federal agencies in order...

President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee to co-lead a new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) said on Sunday that some federal agencies will be “deleted outright” and that contractors may see “massive cuts” in what they can charge when the incoming administration takes office next year.Vivek Ramaswamy, former Republican presidential candidate, speaks during Republican presidential nominee, former President Donald Trump's campaign rally at Riverfront Sports in Scranton, Pa., on Oct. 9, 2024. Last week, Trump named former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and Tesla CEO Elon Musk to lead the presidential advisory commission, DOGE. Their work must be completed no later than...

Vivek Ramaswamy said on this week’s broadcast of FNC’s “Sunday Morning Futures” that the soon-to-be-formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will “delete” some government agencies. Ramaswamy said, “Over the last 40 years, even conservatives, we’ve talked a big game for 40 years about cutting the federal government, about reducing the scope of the federal government. Politicians haven’t been able to do it. And so Elon and I, we’re not politicians. We’re businessmen. We’re coming at it from the outside. Sometimes, if you go inside, you become native to the system.” He added, “I applaud President Trump for setting this up...

DHS was supposed to protect us from foreign terrorist attacks. Instead it has become an instrument of censorship and propaganda... News broke Tuesday that President-elect Donald Trump picked South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem to lead the Department of Homeland Security, a key cabinet post for the incoming administration. Conservatives are unhappy about the possibility — and rightly so. Noem is a terrible choice for any post in the Trump administration. Trump won in part because he stood against the transgender agenda and pushed back against gender-confused boys competing in girls’ sports. Noem backed down from protecting girls in her state...

Filmmaker Michael Moore is urging President Joe Biden to use his final months in The White House to forcibly push through a far-left agenda that includes shifting all student loan debt to American taxpayers, ending the federal death penalty, and halting all military aid to Israel. It represents a change of heart for Moore, who recenttly urged Biden to resign the presidency in order to make Kamala Harris commander in chief prior to the election in November. “Some people are now calling you...

Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah noted in a post on X that days after calling for the abolition of the Transportation Security Administration, he was subjected to a pat-down. "Update: days after calling to abolish TSA, I got 'randomly selected' for the needlessly slow, thorough TSA screening & patdown. Maybe it's a coincidence. Or not. Impossible to know. That's part of the problem with having a federal agency in charge of airport security," Lee wrote in a Thursday post on X. In a Monday post, Lee, who has served in the Senate since early 2011, called for nixing the...

The Nation is honoring this year’s Thanksgiving by featuring a debate over whether America should keep celebrating the national holiday or not. One side is claiming it is “steeped in colonialism, violence, and misrepresentation” and needs to be “decolonized,” while the other goes further, describing Thanksgiving as a “lie” that should be completely abolished and replaced with a “Truthsgiving,” where Americans can “give thanks by… giving land back.”

I am a fan of Roger Simon. His articles are great examples of the Tom Paine tradition in American political writing. Yes, he writes as a citizen speaking common sense to his fellow citizens, but he gives us more to like. His every sentence displays his American sensibility. He writes as an American citizen speaking common sense to his fellow Americans. In his recent article, he calls for the abolition of the FBI. His first words: "The FBI was a bad idea from its start." Not only is he right about that, but his thinking about what was wrong with...
