My MS Front Page is not behaving properly. When I import text into my main page in this new version 2002, it does not stay in its previous format and is a bear to reformat. It becomes slow and adds extra text. I made up a new intermediary page and imported the text there and it held but when I imported it into the original main page the format held, but the page is slow, as if a buffer is full. I looked at the html and there are no long strings of a command, the way there was before....

<p>As counties scrambled to find ways to continue the programs without the state funding, lawmakers and advocates questioned the administration's tactics, saying the move seemed more political than financial.</p>

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks are expected to open flat to lower at Friday's open, buffeted by the latest in string of Wall Street accounting scandals after office equipment company Xerox Corp. (XRX) said it expects to restate revenues by about $2 billion over a five-year period. The announcement jangled nerves still raw from WorldCom Inc.'s (WCOME) disclosure earlier this week that it inappropriately booked nearly $4 billion, inflating its results. Readjustments to corporate results are always unnerving to investors, said James Park, senior vice president of equity trading at investment firm Brean Murray & Co. But he added: "The...

Kids Being Left Behind At Toy Store Timbuk Toys Managers Say Parents Dropping Off Kids To Run Errands Posted: 11:40 a.m. MDT June 27, 2002 Updated: 1:04 p.m. MDT June 27, 2002 DENVER -- Managers at Timbuk Toys wish some parents would just get a baby sitter. Once or twice a week, employees come across children who have been left at the store, sometimes for hours at a time, while their parents run other errands. They get no warning and the kids aren't supervised. "Sometimes we don't even know that they're here," store manager Sylvia Horton said Wednesday. "There could...

Rarely before has a successful businesswoman, or businessman for that matter, with an upstanding reputation been subject to a thrashing like the one Martha Stewart has been receiving in the media. Ever since suggestions surfaced that Ms. Stewart may have engaged in insider trading in shares of ImClone, the editors and owners of the New York Post, the Daily News and now The New York Times, with its Sunday front page, have been having a Schadenfreude field day at her expense. There is something troubling about this cultural witch hunt, the purpose of which seems to be to burn this...

TAMPA -- The cougar named Old Man was 16 years old with bad legs and pancreatitis when he was euthanized last year. But a jury decided Thursday that he had been tortured as well. Bert Wahl, once one of the Tampa Bay area's best-known wildlife activists, was found guilty of misdemeanor animal cruelty Thursday, after jurors deliberated for little more than an hour. He faces a maximum of one year in prison and a $5,000 fine. Prosecutors said Wahl abused the cougar for an hour and a half on Nov. 4, and the animal was euthanized a few days later....

Dem Party pockets $25G donated to fund youth award by Joe Battenfeld Friday, June 28, 2002 The state Democratic Party pocketed $25,000 in donations raised for an award in the name of former Gov. Michael S. Dukakis - leaving the young award-winner with nothing but a glass etching of Dukakis' head. Party officials now concede that all the money from the fund-raiser held last October has been spent on other political activities and that the award-winner will not get a check - just a plaque. Officials say they intend to send $1,500 to an organization of young Democrats, but they...

<p>Subpoenas were flying from Washington to Wall Street yesterday as lawmakers demanded a public accounting for the WorldCom debacle from its disgraced big shots. Founder and former Chief Executive Officer Bernie Ebbers, current CEO John Sidgmore and Chief Financial Officer Scott Sullivan - the architect of the firm's accounting shenanigans - were summoned by the House Financial Services Subcommittee last night.</p>

(CNSNews.com) - Californians give Republican President George W. Bush the edge on environmental issues over the state's Democratic Gov. Gray Davis, according to a new poll. Thirty-nine percent of Californians said they approve of the way the president is handling the environment, compared to 35 percent for Davis, according to the survey conducted by the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC). More than four months before the November gubernatorial election in California, Davis still beats his GOP challenger, Bill Simon, on the environment. Forty-three percent say Davis would do a better job of handling those issues, compared to 31 percent...

Friday, 28 June, 2002, 10:44 GMT 11:44 UK Prosecutors battle with Milosevic By Clare Murphy BBC News Online It is a year since Belgrade washed its hands of former Yugoslav leader Slobodan Milosevic and delivered him to international prosecutors in The Hague. But as the trial rolls on, it has become clear that not everything is going according to plan at the largest hearing of its kind since the Nazi Nuremberg trials. A deadline is looming, key witnesses may never appear, and a recurring bout of apparent influenza is keeping Mr Milosevic tucked up in a detention centre rather than...

Capitol Hill (CNSNews.com) - Apparently not content with its resolution Wednesday condemning the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals' decision ruling the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional, the Senate has passed a bill affirming the inclusion of the phrase "under God" in the pledge. Senate Resolution 2690 passed by a vote of 99 - 0 Thursday afternoon. The House also took action, on House Resolution 459, introduced by Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.). The resolution, which expresses the sense of the House "that Newdow v. U.S. Congress was erroneously decided," passed by a vote of 416 to 3, with 11 members...

Before I became an instructional designer, I worked for 5 years for the Association for Retarded Citizens, a not for profit agency which provides various services to people with developmental disabilities (i.e., Down's Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Epilespy, Cerebral Palsy, etc.) These services included residential care, vocational training and placement, and recreational support. The current philosophical approach to the delivery of these services is called person-centered services. Here is a description of person-centered services from the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs: The person-centered approach focuses all aspects of service planning, funding and delivery on the person with the...

The Today Show just aired segments on the two Supreme Court rulings on education that came down yesterday. In the first segment, regarding the court's ruling that school's had the right to do random drug testing for kids involved in after-school activities, the only guests were the family of the school girl who brought the suit opposing the drug testing. The second segment concerned the court's ruling that school vouchers, even if overwhelmingly used to send kids to religious schools, were constitutional. The only guest? The egregious Nina Totenberg, the NPR legal reporter, and famous anti-Clarence Thomas collaborator.Such is balance at NBC.

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail! [President Bush] Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!! Before the news, would all members of the class, particularly those who live in those states served by the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals, stand and join in saying - loud enough so even those thick-skulled "Justices" on the "Ninth Circus Court" can hear you - the Pledge: I...

I'm sure you are aware that there has been a debate going on for centuries, often referred to as the Calvinistic/Armenian debate, with Scriptures to back up both sides of the argument. Anyway, in light of your belief, following is a message I have received from Dr. James Dobson/Focus on the Family. Please advise if this viewpoint is the same viewpoint you hold to. You asked about Dr. Dobson's beliefs regarding eternal security. He holds to the classic Armenian view -- that is, he believes God never violates the free will of the individual. Dr. Dobson feels that God does...

Low-flying aircraft have been banned from the area around the Statue of Liberty to guard against a Fourth of July terrorist attack, federal officials said yesterday. The temporary airspace restrictions — which also apply to Gateway Arch in St. Louis and Mount Rushmore in South Dakota — were enacted at the request of the National Park Service. The agency worries that holiday crowds will be inviting targets for terrorists."Basically, all flying is banned within a short distance of these locations," said William Shumann, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration. The Statue of Liberty restriction — which bars aircraft flying under...

If Uncle Sam were a public company, the feds would be all over it about accounting. Six years after Congress completed the most sweeping reform of federal financial management in 40 years, 83% of the federal agencies subject to it aren't in full compliance with the law. The accounting is so bad that no one knows how much it's costing taxpayers in erroneous payments and inefficiency. Reports from the U.S. General Accounting Office indicate that $100 billion annually wouldn't be unreasonable. That's equal to an Enron --or a tax cut--every year. Before we look at those big money problems, something less...
