Migrants fearing deportation set mattresses ablaze at an immigration detention center in Mexico, starting a fire that left 39 dead, Mexico’s president said Tuesday. Thirty-nine people died and 29 were injured and are in “delicate-serious” condition, according to the National Immigration Institute. There were 68 men from Central and South America held in the facility at the time of the fire, the agency said. President Andrés Manuel López Obrador called the incident unfortunate and said the director of country’s immigration agency was on the scene. “They never imagined that this would cause this terrible misfortune,” López Obrador said.

NEW YORK, March 28 (Reuters) - U.S. prosecutors on Tuesday unveiled a new indictment against Sam Bankman-Fried, charging the founder of now-bankrupt FTX cryptocurrency exchange with conspiring to violate anti-bribery provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Federal prosecutors in Manhattan accused Bankman-Fried of directing the transfer of at least $40 million of cryptocurrency to benefit Chinese government officials. In a court filing, they asked U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan to arrange a court hearing so Bankman-Fried can be arraigned on the new, 13-count indictment.

(Daily readings from the USCCB)Because he spoke this way, many came to believe in him. John 8:30Jesus had been teaching in veiled but deeply profound ways about Who He was. In prior passages, He referred to Himself as the “bread of life,” the “living water,” the “light of the world,” and He even took upon Himself the ancient title of God “I AM.” Furthermore, He continually identified Himself with the Father in Heaven as His Father with Whom He was perfectly united and by Whom He was sent into the world to do His will. For example, just prior to...

Nashville school shooter Audrey Hale ran an art website that included a disturbing image dedicated to “The Shining” and its backward spelling of “MURDER.” The 28-year-old who hunted down and shot dead six people — including three kids — at the Covenant School on Monday claimed online to be a professional freelance illustrator and graphic designer. A self-portrait of “Audrey the Artist” claimed the soon-to-be mass killer was “on a mission to change the world.” “My illustrations usually bring a whimsical and light-hearted feel,” wrote Hale, who appeared to recently start using “he/ him” pronouns and the name Aiden but...

The Decline in Patriotism The Wall Street Journal has conducted a poll with the most interesting results. From 1998 to the present, the percentage of Americans who say that patriotism is an important value has crashed from 70 percent to 38 percent. The bulk of the fall has happened since 2019. More results will be discussed in a bit but let’s first focus on this issue of patriotism. The poll doesn’t define for the respondents what patriotism is but reflects on the word. It can mean love of country and homeland. It’s perhaps true that this has fallen. That’s believable...

That sounds like a call to violence.Do you think Merrick Garland and Christopher Wray are investigating this group for the promotion of domestic terrorism, or nah?Are trans people really being murdered?Um, no. It's, get this, another lie from the trans extremists.A very based take from David Strom:I'm not exactly sure what they will be avenging. They claim a trans genocide is upon us, but in their own propaganda, they claim that 6 trans people have been murdered this year. There were 26,031 murders in 2021. The TDOV people claim 60 murders in 2022 for trans people. 1.6 million people in...

There will be no Ukrainian counter-offensive until Kyiv’s Western “partners” send more weapons and ammunition, President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned. In comments to Japanese media quoted by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), President Zelensky insisted: “We can’t start yet, we can’t send our brave soldiers to the front line without tanks, artillery and long-range rockets.” “If you have the political will, you can find a way to help us. We are at war and can’t wait,” he added, emphasising that Ukrainian forces are also “waiting for ammunition to arrive from our partners.”

At least 39 people were killed after a fire broke out at a migration center along the U.S.-Mexico border, officials said Tuesday. The fire began Monday night at a facility run by the National Migration Institute in Ciudad Juarez, the agency said in a statement. Dozens more were injured, with 29 people taken to four local hospitals in "delicate-serious condition," it said, adding that there were 68 men from Central America and South America being held in the facility during the time of the fire. Images showed rows of bodies laid out under silver sheets as rescue teams, firefighters and...

The Federal Reserve is in retreat and housing prices reflect the retreat. Case-Shiller’s national home price index slowed to 3.79% YoY in January as The Fed slows its money printing. All 20 cities were down MoM in January with Seatlle declining the fastest with Las Vegas the second fastest decliner.

By denying science, the medical profession is committing some of the worst moral crimes in modern times. It must end. What is a woman? A defining question of our times, and the title of a now infamous documentary indicating the breadth of the political chasm dividing us here in the West. Here is an answer, summarising current scientific understanding and coming from a research psychologist and clinician. Let's start with the basics. Sexual differentiation, on the biological front – where the whole woman/man dichotomy originates, after all – happened two billion years in the past, long before nervous systems developed...

Things got juicy. Embattled author JK Rowling slammed trans rights activists in New Zealand Saturday after several doused anti-trans campaigner Kellie-Jay Keen Minshull in tomato juice, according to local outlet RNZ. Kellie-Jay Keen Minshull — also known as Posie Parker — was in Australia as a part of her controversial “Let women speak” tour when a protester rushed forward and doused the activist with red liquid. Parker, 48, was then rushed by security forces to a waiting police car and fled the scene. The “Harry Potter” author condemned the attacks as “repellent” in a series of tweets. “There are multiple...

A female stray dog in Oklahoma ran up to a parking lot and begged a woman she saw to follow her. When the woman, Mitzi Brogdon, approached the dog, she was surprised by how friendly she was. Brogdon said the stray pup, later named Dolly, came right up to her and allowed her to pet it. However, it soon became apparent that Dolly needed more than petting, as she was seemingly begging Brogdon to follow her down a path off the road. After Dolly began walking up the path to the cell tower, Brogdon followed her. To her surprise, Brogdon...

On Friday, the House passed H.R. 5, the Parents Bill of Rights, splitting along party lines with a vote of 213-208. While Republicans are taking a victory lap now, the future of the bill in the Senate looks grim, since the Democrat-controlled Senate will reject it. Plus, even if it passes the Senate, President Biden will veto it.But that didn’t stop House Democrats from theatrically emoting on the House floor....It’s always the same, isn’t it: MAGA! MAGA! MAGA! Along with “fascism” (courtesy of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez), and even “bringing guns into schools” (what?).These people are shameless hucksters. The panel on “The Five”...

Even though I don’t live in Chicago anymore, I still watch it. The slo-mo destruction of a once great city is hard not to watch. The demise of Chicago is a metaphor for the rest of the United States. Chicago isn’t NYC. It’s a uniquely American city. There are lessons to be learned from Chicago, the state of Illinois, and what happens in this election for the rest of the country. If you look at the denigration of the city, it started with the establishment of the Democratic Machine in the 1930s. The Democratic Machine replaced a Republican Machine. Don’t...

The media is really big on promoting the First Openly Transgender (fill in the blank). Richard “Rachel” Levine becoming an admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps was big news. That he’s a doctor who doesn’t know biology flummoxes me, but I roll against the tide, don’t I? But the media is trying hard notto acknowledge Monday’s historic First Openly Transgender (female to male) mass school shooter. You’ve heard of the glass ceiling; she shattered the glass basement. Heavy reported that Audrey Elizabeth Hale, 28, a woman who pretended she was a man named Aiden, shot and killed...

Joe Biden spoke on Monday, and as is often the case, he really shouldn’t have. The President of the United States took the podium just hours after a school shooting took place in Nashville. While there, he delivered scintillating remarks on what kind of ice cream he eats, and that was the most coherent part of his remarks. The “Weekend at Bernie’s” presidency continues apace. Does he know how to read a room, or does he know how to read a room? Biden is a real man of the people, showing his empathy for the victims of a heinous crime...
