A large study has found that people with a prior heart attack or diabetes are more likely to have gum disease than their healthy counterparts. "This was an observational study and does not imply causal relationships," said study author Dr. Ida Stødle. "However, the findings raise awareness about the correlations between chronic illnesses which affect large numbers of people. This knowledge may help efforts to prevent these diseases." Non‐communicable diseases are becoming increasingly common as populations age and there is growing evidence that they are connected. Gum disease, also called periodontitis, affects up to half of all adults worldwide. This...

More than half a dozen affordable housing projects in California are costing more than $1 million per apartment to build, a record-breaking sum that makes it harder to house the growing numbers of low-income Californians who need help paying rent, a Times review of state data found. The seven subsidized housing developments, all in Northern California, received state funding within the last two years and are under construction or close to breaking ground. When completed, they will provide homes for more than 600 families. But their exorbitant price tags mean that taxpayers are subsidizing fewer apartments than they otherwise could...

Lung function declines with increasingly severe gum disease, according to research. "Our study indicates a link between periodontal disease and lung function meaning that good dental hygiene may benefit both oral and respiratory health," said study author Dr. Anders Røsland. The average age of those with severe periodontitis was 55 years and 59% were men. Smoking was significantly more common in people with moderate or severe periodontitis compared with the healthy/mild group. Lung function was assessed using spirometry, which measures the volume of air exhaled from the lungs and the flow rate of air. The researchers measured forced expiratory volume...

Two events in the last few days–Lithuania’s decision to prevent the transit of Russian supplies for Kalinigrad and the Ukrainian missile attack on a Russian oil platform in the Black Sea–may be the tipping point for Russia in shifting to a War strategy rather than continue with the Special Military Operation. Let me explain. The Special Military Operation, besides the stated goals of demilitarizing and denazifying Ukraine, consisted of restricted rules of engagement. Russia did not destroy all communication infrastructure and networks. The internet remained operational in most parts of Ukraine. Cell phone towers and power grids were not targeted and...

UVALDE, Texas — On Monday, KVUE and its news partners at the Austin American-Statesman exclusively obtained surveillance footage from inside Robb Elementary School on the day of the May 24 shooting. The footage shows that multiple officers were inside the building with rifles and at least one ballistic shield, 19 minutes after the gunman arrived. They didn't enter the classroom the shooter was inside for nearly another hour. Investigators believe this will prove to be a significant development as it indicates they had more than enough firepower and protection to enter that classroom before they actually did. Authorities have since...

American Airlines is ending service to three cities due to a 'regional pilot shortage' as thousands of frustrated customers are battling flight cancellations and delays. An American Airlines spokesperson told DailyMail.com on Monday the company 'made the difficult decision' to drop service to airports in Toledo, Ohio; Ithaca, New York and Islip, New York beginning September 7. The airline cited a pilot shortage currently affecting the entire airline industry. American is allegedly contacting customers scheduled to fly after the route termination date in an effort to 'offer alternate arrangements.' The airline also said it is 'extremely grateful for the care...

A news story has been circulating lately, more on social media than mainstream. Nothing unusual there. It seems that Joe Biden’s daughter Ashley was in rehab in 2020, and part of her therapy was to keep a diary, perhaps recounting her thoughts on what problems caused her lifelong addictions to sex and substance abuse. In this diary, she postulated that being hypersexualized at a young age, engaging in sexual activity in her youth, and taking showers with her father, may have contributed to this sad problem. She annotated her mention of showering with her father as “probably not appropriate”, but...

The Jumbo Floating Restaurant capsized and sank in the South China Sea just five days after the 76-meter vessel was towed from Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter last Tuesday. Jumbo's owner, Aberdeen Restaurant Enterprises Limited, announced the "death" of the vessel, saying it was hit by a thunderstorm as it was sailing near the Paracel Islands on Saturday afternoon. "Water got into the boat and it started to list. The tow company tried to save it but in vain," it said. The vessel eventually fully listed and capsized on Sunday. No crew members were injured. "The vessel sank more than 1,000 meters...

Mo Brooks opposed the Biden-Pelosi Defense Bill Katie Britt supports. Here’s what Britt’s endorsing: Red Flag Gun Confiscation, Critical Race Theory, taxpayer paid sex change operations, renaming bases and even drafting women. Katie Britt’s a woke moderate who supported Doug Jones over Roy Moore, while sitting silently as Britt Demolition took down Birmingham’s Confederate Monument. Katie Britt. Too Weak. Too Woke. Wrong. For Alabama.

“When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge. The righteous man wisely considereth the house of the wicked: but God overthroweth the wicked for their wickedness” (Proverbs 21:11-12).

Britain’s Military Chief of the General Staff had just taken that position and he has already told the army they need to prepare for war against Russia in Europe. He has told every soldier to prepare to fight Russia in a potential World War III. He has pledged to forge an Army that can beat Russia in battle and said that we must now prepare “to fight in Europe once again.” He added on his fourth day on the job: “There is now a burning imperative to forge an Army capable of fighting alongside our allies and defeating Russia in...

He just can’t help himself. Joe Biden took a leisurely stroll with his daughter Ashley on Delaware’s Rehoboth Beach Monday as Americans suffer under his disastrous presidency. Joe Biden also stopped to take photos with beach goers and used the opportunity to creep on little girls. Snip The 79-year-old creep grabbed the pre-teen’s hand and pulled her close to him as the girl’s mother took a photo.

…One of the most important advances is a deepened understanding of the mechanism of IBS, which is now characterized as a disorder of the gut-brain interaction, says Hunt. Signals from the gut that might go unnoticed in individuals without IBS instead get transmitted to and interpreted by the brain as pain or the urgent need for a bowel movement. This can lead to anxiety, and the intestine, which is lined with stress hormone receptors, responds by cramping and spasming. Symptomatically, IBS manifests as abdominal pain and either constipation, diarrhea, or alternating bouts of both, and by some estimates as many...

Rubbish bins in Sweden have started groaning in pleasure and making sexually suggestive comments when trash is inserted as part of a new initiative to prevent littering. Footage shows the bins saying 'thank you', 'aaah that was crazy nice', 'oh, right there, yes' and 'mmm more', seductively in Swedish as the opening is swung back and forth. Eighteen high-tech bins were installed in Malmö in 2017, with two able to talk. During the pandemic, the bins thanked residents for steering clear. Now city authorities have added both a female and male voice to the bins so depositors have a chance...

An anti-police Black Lives Matter protester who was hit by a car in a horrific accident as she and fellow Summer of Love activists blocked a freeway is now suing those she believes are responsible for her injuries. For those who know this caliber of the professional protester class, you will not be surprised in the least to learn that Diaz Love, who’s 34 and old enough to know better, takes no responsibility for the incident. Indeed, now that she’s healed up and lawyered up, she’s decided that her injuries suffered while blocking the freeway on a busy Fourth...

Patients over age 80 are considered high-risk candidates for coronary artery bypass grafting, not only because of normal wear and tear on the body, but also because of comorbidities and risks of complications after surgery. No hard-and-fast guidelines are available to assess the risks and benefits for octogenarians. Patients and physicians often choose not to proceed with surgery, and that decision carries its own risks and disadvantages. A new retrospective study finds that, although there's a higher surgical risk for patients over age 80, coronary artery bypass grafting may be associated with favorable outcomes and increased long-term survival. Researchers reviewed...

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Monday clarified his government’s stance on babies receiving COVID-19 vaccines, stating that “there’s no proven benefit” for the controversial injections to be used in infants. DeSantis slammed the “legacy media” and the Biden administration over their support for COVID-19 vaccines being administered to children. They came out with an article saying ‘the state of Florida has not ordered, it’s department of health has not ordered mRNA jabs for the babies,'” said DeSantis. “Yes. We didn’t. We recommend against it.” We are not going to have any programs where we are trying to jab six month...
