CHICAGO (AP) — Michael Madigan, the former speaker of the Illinois House and for decades one of the nation’s most powerful legislators, was charged with racketeering and bribery Wednesday, becoming the most prominent politician swept up in a federal investigation of entrenched government corruption in the state. Madigan, 79, is charged in the 22-count indictment with racketeering conspiracy, using interstate facilities in aid of bribery, wire fraud and attempted extortion. Madigan, who resigned from the Legislature a year ago, was the longest-serving state House speaker in modern U.S. history and was nicknamed the “Velvet Hammer” for his insistence on strict...

If the U.S. yield curve inverts in 2022, it may signal that a recession is coming and that can mean poor returns for stocks. Currently, the U.S. yield curve still has an upward slope to it, but it is flattening in places, largely because government bond yields between 3 months and 5 years out have risen meaningfully, while the yield on the 10 year and longer durations have risen at a slower rate. This is, in part, because many see the Fed raising rates in 2022. The result is a generally flatter yield curve, which could mean that inversion is...

Sympathy for the outnumbered and outgunned defenders of Kyiv has led to the exaggeration of Russian setbacks, misunderstanding of Russian strategy, and even baseless claims from amateur psychoanalysts that Putin has lost his mind. A more sober analysis shows that Russia may have sought a knockout blow, but always had well-laid plans for follow-on assaults if its initial moves proved insufficient.

Congress needs to expedite approval and delivery of a new significant package of military aid to Ukraine. We are both employees of or advisors to the Global Special Operations Force Foundation, the professional association for special operations, and we understand that we can’t wait until the middle of March for the United States to send aid. Congress has an opportunity to quickly craft a proposal to send to the president this week. Time is of the essence. The battle for freedom and democracy in Ukraine is happening now and at a critical stage. This is the most consequential war since...

As the West widely condemns Russia for what it deems is an unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, Russia is planning to force schoolchildren to watch a broadcast about the government's justification for the Ukrainian invasion. Russia's Ministry of Education said in a notice on Wednesday that schoolchildren will be forced to watch a broadcast on March 3 about the "necessity" of a "liberation mission" in Ukraine. The notice said that children will be forced to learn about why Russia believes NATO seemingly poses a danger, and why Russia felt like it needed to intervene in eastern Ukraine's Donbas region. According to...

After we saw Bryce Harper make overtures to a team in Japan, Gallo posted images of his real (if not tongue-in-cheek) LinkedIn profile as hope continues to wane that MLB players and owners will reach a new collective bargaining agreement that prevents missed games this season. SNIP Somewhat amusingly, Gallo listed his “skills” as striking out, hitting into the shift and getting dressed weird. SNIP “I think most hitters are pretty adamant on the shift, that they have to do something with it,” Gallo said. “I don’t really see many hitters going, ‘The shift is pretty awesome, man. They need...

Putin has already demonstrated poor judgment by invading Ukraine believing his army would have the upper hand Like it or not America is at war with Vladimir Putin’s Russia. It doesn’t matter if the Kremlin tyrant is irrational, ill or crazy – the West faces a credible threat beyond the carnage in Ukraine. To stop Putin, we may be forced to return to the bad old Cold War days of mutually assured nuclear destruction. That policy served us well then and it remains valid today. resident Biden must find the gumption to be crystal clear with Putin and his generals....

CNBC host Joe Kernen embarrassed President Joe Biden’s environmentalist cheerleaders who fought to keep oil in the ground because of so-called “climate change” while blaming former President Donald Trump for high gas prices. It’s as if leftists want to have their cake and eat it too.

President Joe Biden’s administration on March 2 unveiled a rejiggered COVID-19 strategy he said would help the country get back to “a more normal routine.” The 90-page National COVID-19 Preparedness Plan seeks to reduce severe illness while keeping schools and businesses open. It includes a “test to treat” program that would provide antiviral pills at pharmacies to people who test positive for the virus. If funded by Congress, it will also expand research at the National Institute of Health (NIH) and launch new “centers of excellence” across the country meant to help people with “long COVID.” “This plan lays out...

The Supreme Court heard a bizarre case Monday that dealt with the Environmental Protection Agency’s power to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. A coalition of red states and coal companies are gesturing towards a rule that is no longer on the books — Obama’s Clean Power Plan — as a way to bring before the conservative court questions of how the EPA can act on climate. It’s a case where the justices handcuffing the EPA from its ability to keep some of the country’s biggest polluters from belching greenhouse gasses into the air is actually not the worst...

Author James Perloff returns to SGT Report in this 2016 rewind, this was the most watched interview on my YouTube channel, ever. Russia tried on Wednesday to delegitimize United Nations criticism of its invasion of Ukraine by calling into question the actions of other countries, including the United States' "overthrowing" of former President Donald Trump. The U.N. passed a resolution Wednesday that condemned Russia's invasion and called for an immediate and complete withdrawal of all military forces from Ukraine. Russia forcefully rejected the resolution, calling claims the country was targeting civilians "fake" and saying other countries were hypocritical for supporting the resolution. Vassily Nebenzia, Russia's ambassador to the U.N., even said the United States, which supported the resolution, was "where the legitimately...

The only way to avoid World War III is to listen to both sides. The refusal to listen ensures that we will move into World War III, and this is not my opinion; unfortunately, our computer has never been wrong, for it is unbiased. It called BREXIT when nobody else did, and also forecast that Trump would win in 2016 when everyone thought that was impossible. This time if our computer could hide under the covers in bed going into 2023, it would. We have the most incompetent crop of world leaders perhaps in human history, and the press is...

Pfizer Vaccine Goes Into Liver Cells and Is Converted to DNA: Study CLINICAL STUDY The messenger RNA (mRNA) from Pfizer’s COVID vaccine is able to enter human liver cells and is converted into DNA, according to Swedish researchers at Lund University. The researchers found that when the mRNA vaccine enters the human liver cells, it triggers the cell’s DNA, which is inside the nucleus, to increase the production of the LINE-1 gene expression to make mRNA. The mRNA then leaves the nucleus and enters the cell’s cytoplasm, where it translates into LINE-1 protein. A segment of the protein called the...
