President Joe Biden’s administration on March 2 unveiled a rejiggered COVID-19 strategy he said would help the country get back to “a more normal routine.”
The 90-page National COVID-19 Preparedness Plan seeks to reduce severe illness while keeping schools and businesses open.
It includes a “test to treat” program that would provide antiviral pills at pharmacies to people who test positive for the virus. If funded by Congress, it will also expand research at the National Institute of Health (NIH) and launch new “centers of excellence” across the country meant to help people with “long COVID.”
“This plan lays out the roadmap to help us fight COVID-19 in the future as we move America from crisis to a time when COVID-19 does not disrupt our daily lives and is something we prevent, protect against, and treat,” the White House said. “We are not going to just ‘live with COVID.’ Because of our work, we are no longer going to let COVID-19 dictate how we live.”
During his State of the Union speech Tuesday, Biden touted his administration’s efforts to distribute vaccines, provide tests and masks, and purchase COVID therapeutics. But he later added that new stockpiles of masks, tests, and pills hinge on Congress providing “the funds we need.”
“We provided free vaccines, treatments, tests, and masks,” Biden said. “Of course, continuing this costs money. I will soon send Congress a request. The vast majority of Americans have used these tools and may want to again, so I expect Congress to pass it quickly.”
Biden also promised to order more COVID tests to be distributed for free.
About half of the 500 million COVID-19 tests that President Joe Biden made available in January haven’t been claimed.
White House COVID-19 coordinator Jeff Zients told reporters Wednesday that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has briefed Congress on the near-term cost of its new COVID plan and is still finalizing the long-term costs to relate in its request to Congress.
Biden already signed into law the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan meant to address hardship from the pandemic. During his speech, Biden announced a new Chief Prosecutor for Pandemic Fraud under the Department of Justice meant to prosecute those who stole billions of those relief funds through fraud.
The administration’s new COVID plan comes days after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention relaxed its guidance for indoor mask-wearing to say that now more than 70 percent of the country is not at high-risk.
Not a "new normal".
Just a "more normal".
In many aspects that means "normally, more of the same".
They want those tests and are hoping to have another campaign of testing...just before elections...and call for mail in voting in all 50 states at the same time.

Worthless. Both my wife and I tested ourselves when we began to feel slightly ill. We tested negative. 24 hours after having a slight fever and aches we tested positive. The worst was over and we began to recover.
There are millions of Americans that are Immune from this crap, I haven’t been sick since 1969 when I almost Died from the Hong Kong Flu, the Fauci Flu gave me a weak Hangover for 2 days in Jan 2020, I wasn’t Sick, just a little off, but my Wife, Daughter and her Husband were pretty sick for 2 weeks.

Compared with other variants, Omicron spreads more easily and generally causes less severe COVID-19 symptoms.
Recent studies also suggest that Omicron may have an average incubation period of three days, shorter than any other variant. The incubation period is the amount of time between when someone is exposed to a virus and when symptoms start to emerge.
A paper published in December 2021 on Eurosurveillance, the scientific journal of the European CDC, describes an Omicron outbreak involving 80 attendees of a restaurant party in Norway. Most of those individuals were vaccinated and had received a negative antigen test result within two days before attending the event. Symptoms such as fever started to show about three days after the party. Researchers said this could indicate that Omicron is able to multiply so quickly that negative antigen test results become meaningless.

I had SARS in 2011 and that was about as sick as I have ever been.
Coughing till I had to sit down, folks would actually ask if I was going to be OK.
A full week of that, two more weeks of somewhat better and two or three more until it was totally gone.
I think I had CV in March of 2020 but the only symptom was a mysterious case of diarrhea for about 4 days.
My doctor retired in 2021 and went with a new guy in the same office.

I told him I had SARS in 2011 and what I had in 2021.
He tried to tell me that there was no natural immunity.
I fired him less than a month later, but that is another story.
