The mask mandate is back in the Bay Area. Public health officials in Santa Clara, San Mateo, Alameda, San Francisco, Contra Costa, Marin and Sonoma counties, as well as the City of Berkeley, announced Monday they would reimpose a requirement that people wear masks in public indoor places beginning at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. The move comes as the Delta variant of Covid-19 has begun to spread widely in the area, spiking case rates by infecting not only unvaccinated people but also some who have been inoculated against the coronavirus.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) reinstated a statewide mask mandate for everyone 5 years old and up as the Pelican State has hit the most cases per capita in the U.S. The governor announced the mask requirement over Twitter, citing surging COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, which he said are “threatening the ability of hospitals to deliver care.” The mandate will go until at least Sept. 1, but Edwards said it could be extended if needed.

According to a new poll from OH Predictive Insights, it would be Republican Kari Lake and Democrat Katie Hobbs facing off in November. The women have the highest favorability ratings in their respective parties. Lake, a former TV news anchor, has a 25% rating of very favorable and a 35% rating of somewhat favorable among Republicans. The numbers for Hobbs, Arizona’s current secretary of state, are 32% and 31%, respectively, among Democrats.

A former Catholic bishop admitted that the Archdiocese of Albany covertly moved around priests accused of sexual misconduct before reintroducing them back into the ministry. Howard J.
