A man has been ordered to pay $12m (£8.6m) for his role setting a Minneapolis police station on fire during rioting last May. The fine for Dylan Shakespeare Robinson, 23, who pleaded guilty to an arson charge in December, will follow a four year prison sentence. Robinson's lawyer has said "there is no realistic chance" his client will be able to afford the fine. Three other men who also pleaded guilty will be sentenced at a later date. In May of last year, thousands of people took to the streets of Minneapolis to protest against the death of George Floyd...

Standing on the sidelines of her son’s soccer practice in this upscale suburb, Laura Hahn looked skyward for answers when asked how she would rate President Joe Biden’s first 100 days in office. Overall, Biden is doing well, she said after a few minutes of thought. But she acknowledged her judgment is as much a feeling of relief as an analysis of accomplishments. “I’m still exhaling,” Hahn said, referencing the tumultuous tenure of President Donald Trump. “It’s been exhausting.” At the 100-day marker, polls show most Americans are like Hahn, giving the new president positive marks for his early performance....

Georgia Republican Party Chairman David Shafer called out President Joe Biden’s “repeated lies” on Georgia’s “election integrity law” in an op-ed the day Biden visits the Peach State. Shafer on Thursday called out Biden for visiting the state on his 100th day in office after the President has “repeated lies about our election integrity law and the damage those lies have done to Georgia’s small businesses and their workers.”

“‘For man is born for trouble, as sparks fly upward’” (Job 5:7). Because they are sinners, still living in a sinful world, Christians should expect to encounter difficulties. “It all depends on how you look at it.” That may be a cliché, but it is very applicable for believers as they deal with trials and sufferings. Any trial can be a joyous experience for a Christian if he looks at it from the proper, biblical perspective. Or, as with Jonah (Jonah 4) and Elijah (1 Kings 19:1-14), trials can be frustrating times of self-pity if believers lose their focus on...

I am writing to you today about God opening shut doors. Someone reading this message will relate immediately to this, because you face one or more closed doors. There it is, right in your face, a door that seems to be continually locked. It could be a serious financial situation, and you’ve prayed for the door of some opportunity to open. Yet everything you try seems to fail; the doors simply don’t open. I don’t know what your closed door may be, but for many it seems both the windows and doors of heaven are locked shut. The heavens seem...

Record’s taught pupils over Zoom for most of this school year, but some students never appeared on her screen. Even after students had the choice to remain remote or return to the classroom, she estimates about 10 percent didn’t show. Emails to their homes went unanswered, or listed family phone numbers were no longer in service. It was like pushing information into a black hole. In December, Connecticut Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont declared his state the first in the country to get a laptop computer for every elementary and high school student who needed one for remote learning. That moment...

Interesting discussion on Slashdot. Apparently the bosses in charge at a project management company, Basecamp, decided that the never ending political “discussion” (aka ranting, proselytizing, whining, virtue signaling, harassment, etc.) on company time and across company assets (e.g., eMails, etc.) were too much. So, it is forbidden. Read the letter to employees. Surprisingly, the reaction at Slashdot (https://politics.slashdot.org/story/21/04/30/2114254/basecamp-sees-mass-employee-exodus-after-ceo-bans-political-discussions ) is almost 100% supportive. Many such topics bring out the SJWarriors, who seem to have been the problem at Basecamp. But, not this time. Instead, the condemnation of the SJW’s is in quite severe terms. Seems that there is a lot...

Joe Biden is going to find himself canceled after these remarks about Sen. Tim Scott’s (R-SC) rebuttal of his speech to Congress. Biden was able to muster the energy to stay up past 7 PM and deliver an hour-long address where he pretty much outlined an agenda that will send this nation spiraling toward economic death. Of course, this old man lied up there. It was truly one of the most boring spectacles in recent memory—and the ratings showed that. Scott delivered a solid rebuttal. It could have been more "stab in the back and twist" regarding aggressiveness and tone,...

FOURTH WEEK OF EASTER JOHN 14:7–14 Friends, in today’s Gospel Jesus declares his mutual indwelling with God: "Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?" Charles Williams, a friend of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, stated that the master idea of Christianity is "coinherence," what he described as mutual indwelling. But we sometimes forget that we are all interconnected. How do we often identify ourselves? Almost exclusively through the naming of relationships: we are sons, brothers, daughters, mothers, fathers, members of organizations, or members of the Church. Yet read the Gospel today...

The toll booths on Oklahoma’s turnpikes are coming down, but the road isn’t free. The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority is adopting an all-electronic toll collection system starting this summer. Legislation to authorize collections on the new system are pending before the Oklahoma Legislature. It will mean very little change for drivers who use the PikePass system, which allows them to pay their fare while barely slowing down and at a discounted price. About 80% of Oklahoma turnpike drivers take advantage of that system. OTA cameras will will capture the license tags numbers of other drivers and bill the vehicle’s owner. That’s...

Joe recently had a meltdown after reading from his teleprompter at a local movie drive in theater when his face mask went missing. He panicked and called the FBI for assistance. Unfortunately, 12 crack FBI agents were already preoccupied kicking down the door of an innocent couple in Alaska because the armed G-men erroneously thought that the Huepers snatched Pelosi’s laptop during their visit to the Capital on January 6. Wow. What happened to the FBI? They used to be the gold standard for law enforcement, and now they appear to be mimicking the Keystone Cops on steroids. Also, I...

COLUMBIA, S.C. —When former vice president Mike Pence reemerged for his first post-White House appearance at a convention center chicken dinner here Thursday night, he did not mention how then-President Donald Trump's supporters marauded through the Capitol on Jan. 6, threatening to hang him. Or that the president attacked him on Twitter for lacking "courage" as the Secret Service rushed him to safety that day. Or the criticism Trump has leveled toward his former No. 2 in recent weeks. In fact, as Pence met privately with about 400 pastors in the cavernous First Baptist Church downtown and traveled across South...

A novel decoy protein designed by Northwestern Medicine scientists fools SARS-CoV-2 by intercepting the spike of the coronavirus and rendering it impotent. The novel protein significantly reduced lung damage and resulted in only mild symptoms in mice infected with SARS-CoV-2, while untreated animals in this model all succumbed to the infection. "We envision this soluble ACE2 protein will attenuate the entry of coronavirus into cells in the body mainly in the respiratory system and, consequently, the serious symptoms seen in severe COVID 19," said lead investigator Dr. Daniel Batlle, a professor of medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine...

“Branches, Abiding in the Vine, Bearing Fruit” (John 15:1-8) In the Holy Gospel for today, in John 15:5, our Lord Jesus says to us: “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” And so our theme this morning: “Branches, Abiding in the Vine, Bearing Fruit.” And those will be the three parts of our message today. First, branches: How do we become branches? Second, abiding in the vine: How does that happen? And third, bearing fruit: What...

The UK government recently announced an £800 million, taxpayer-funded Advanced Research and Invention Agency (Aria). The brainchild of the British prime minister's former chief adviser, Dominic Cummings and modelled on the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, Darpa, the organisation will focus partly on genomic research. Genome technology is becoming an increasingly important part of military research. So given that the UK boasts some of the best genomic research centres in the world, how will its new agency affect the wider genome technology warfare race? In 2019, Darpa announced that it wishes to explore genetically editing soldiers. It has also...

Biden claimed to regret how his drug warrior legacy led to mass incarceration. But the prohibition will lead to harsher policing in Black communities. It's like the president hasn't learned a thing from the failed and evil War on Drugs. This is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed are those of the author. Joe Biden clearly hasn't learned a thing from the failed and immoral War on Drugs - a disaster that he played a huge part in creating. The president on Thursday ordered the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ban menthol cigarettes, a plan first reported on Wednesday...

Stupid politicians are listening to stupid anarchists who want license to rampage across urban areas without repercussions. Law enforcement is under violent siege as they battle these monsters night after night, month after month. Police are leaving the profession in droves; not just because of the working conditions, but because stupid city governments refuse to support them. The result is a massive police shortage across the country, especially in large blue cities. Police departments are also facing a recruiting crisis because qualified individuals are deciding they wouldn't touch the law enforcement profession with a 10-foot pole. "It's the perfect storm,"...
