Some kids never logged on to remote school. Now what?

Record’s taught pupils over Zoom for most of this school year, but some students never appeared on her screen. Even after students had the choice to remain remote or return to the classroom, she estimates about 10 percent didn’t show. Emails to their homes went unanswered, or listed family phone numbers were no longer in service. It was like pushing information into a black hole.

In December, Connecticut Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont declared his state the first in the country to get a laptop computer for every elementary and high school student who needed one for remote learning.

That moment was significant, and not just because state education commissioner Miguel Cardona was on the verge of being named President Joe Biden’s pick to replace Betsy DeVos as education secretary in Washington. Record marveled at how quickly her students and classes shifted to online learning. One former Lamont aide likened Connecticut's benchmark to nailing the final, golden spike into the transcontinental railroad.

They weren’t missing much. Most of it is leftist indoctrination anyway.

“Connecticut Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont declared his state the first in the country to get a laptop computer for every elementary and high school student who needed one for remote learning.”

Many don’t know how to use them. They’re iphone and ipad junkies, and the laptop is probably gathering dust on a shelf, or someone else in the family is using it.

Where DID the computers go? Did they “fall off a truck” somewhere?

What’s it matter. Permanent “enhanced unemployment” for all.

True, they did say that; how they got away with that is beyond me.

This whole online grade school has been a bunch of crap from the get go. Do you think parents have time to be grade school teachers? Most families have both parents working! The rest expect the schools to raise their children.
This is just an elaborate bullshit scheme for teachers to stay home and not have to be in the real world. Why they continue to give teachers their regular salaries for doing nothing much is highway robbery for he poor taxpayers who are trying to teach their own kids and work at the same time.
Most people are sick and tired of whining, leftist “teachers.”

Ghost students??? If each school system receives funding according to the number of students, I can easily imagine they might pad the rolls.

Um...’scuuuuse me but don’t I recall previous stories of students getting laptops with spyware loaded on them, where the skool, or teachers were spying on them in their homes?

Offer a proficiency test. If you pass, advance to the next grade. If you don’t, you get to repeat the grade on campus and in a classroom.

Most schools have returned to normal. The only students who are staying at home are the ones from Democratic cities and Blue States (California).

As long as schools are honest and don't pass students that failed to attend school, there is going to be a lot of surprises. I've already seen articles about this and some schools are trying to sneak them by, hopefully they won't get away with it. I feel sorry for the kids, but the parents need to hold the schools accountable and get replace the school boards, admin, teachers, and their unions that set up this disaster.

The impact of what has occurred will stretch a lifetime, it is not just something impacting a few weeks or months. Very sad. Get the kids back on track and hold the schools directly accountable.

What a disservice to our children with these state lock downs.
Granted, upper level students are indoctrinated, so no loss there. But grammar school kids need in class teaching, not to mention interaction with their peers. I fear these children will be behind the curve from just this year and half.

This isn’t a question of kids playing hooky, not knowing how to use a laptop, leftist indoctrination.

This is about an entire generation of future adults being lost forever.

I will agree that the ‘leftist indoctrination’ is YUGE. Really YUGE.

But this is about 100s of thousands of kids who have disappeared off the radar. Some, or maybe most, of which, school was the only sense of order they had in their lives, no matter how minimal that may have been.

I’m about as far from a liberal as a person can get. I think liberals, especially white hypocritical liberals, are the worst form of human in this country. Far more than any drug dealer, criminal, MS13 member or illegal alien. You can deal with all of them. White Hypocritical Liberals might smile at you in the grocery store but they ALL think they are better than you and will consistently vote for and support someone that would take away any and every right you hold dear. Why? Because they’re smarter than you. Just ask them.

And these are the people that run our government institutions, treat Fauci as a God, administer our school systems, courts, you name it.

They more than anyone else, terrorists included, have done and are doing more to destroy this country than anyone else. And they’re only getting worse.

How could that be you ask? How could they make it worse? How could public education get worse? In NY, they are not requiring prospective teachers to take an exam to show that they are literate. Why? Because they determined that the exam was discriminatory to blacks and hispanics. Discriminatory to blacks and hispanics that have Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, who want to become school teachers. They don’t have to take an exam to prove that they know how to read and write. That is who is going to be in classrooms all over NY at some point in the future.
