In an unprecedented joint letter published in the Washington Post, the defence secretaries addressed the worst fears of what could happen in 17 days of Trump’s administration remaining before Joe Biden’s inauguration: an attempt by Trump to foment a crises with the aim of triggering a military intervention in his last-ditch struggle to hold...

President Trump held a call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on Saturday. After the call, Raffensperger leaked to the audio to the nasty anti-Trump publication, the Washington Post. Raffensperger then went on Twitter and refuted President Trump and told him “the truth will come out.” ..... Snip..... One thing that is noticeable in the first five minutes of the call is the Washington Post beeped out a name of a person who President Trump calls out Ruby Freeman a “vote scammer and professional fraudster.” Then, President Trump dropped THIS BOMB — Ruby Freeman and her comrades manufactured 18,000...

Explanation: All of the other aurora watchers had gone home. By 3:30 am in Iceland, on a quiet September night, much of that night's auroras had died down. Suddenly, unexpectedly, a new burst of particles streamed down from space, lighting up the Earth's atmosphere once again. This time, surprisingly, pareidoliacally, the night lit up with an amazing shape reminiscent of a giant phoenix. With camera equipment at the ready, two quick sky images were taken, followed immediately by a third of the land. The mountain in the background is Helgafell, while the small foreground river is called Kaldá, both located...

"Though doing so may frustrate or immediate political objectives, we have sworn an oath to promote the Constitution above our policy goals." The seven Republicans began their statement by expressing outrage at the "significant abuses in our election system" through "reckless" adoption of mail-in ballots leading up to the November election. President Donald Trump has filed two lawsuits - federal and state - against GaSecofState. The telephone conference call GaSecofState secretly recorded was a “confidential settlement discussion” of that litigation, which is still pending. The audio published by @TheWashingtonPost is heavily edited and omits the stipulation that all discussions were for the purpose of settling litigation and confidential under federal and state law.

On this date in 1786, Elizabeth Wilson was hanged in Chester, Pennsylvania for the murder of her infant twins. “One of the melodramas of the early American republic,” our Elizabeth (sometimes called “Harriot Wilson” in the accounts) was a farmer’s daughter of Chester County who got knocked up by a passing sailor. When this gentleman declined to make an honest woman of her after she had borne the bastards, the kids disappeared — later to be discovered dead in the woods by a hunter. The fallen woman denied having killed them directly, but “acknowledged having placed the children by the...
