...Every day the lockdown continues, its implicit message that we are all going to die if we engage in normal life is reinforced. Polls show an increasing number of Americans opting to continue the economic quarantine indefinitely lest they be ‘unsafe’. The longer that belief is reinforced, the less likely it will be that consumers will patronize reopened restaurants or board airplanes in sufficient numbers to bring the economy back to life.

SACRAMENTO — California will shut down state and local beaches in Orange County starting Friday to prevent massive crowds that state officials worry could threaten their progress containing the spread of the coronavirus. Reports circulated earlier that the shutdown would apply to beaches and state parks up and down California, but that turned out not to be the case. Gov. Gavin Newsom said Thursday that Orange County was one of the top counties in the state for coronavirus cases and hospitalizations. “Orange County has been on our list of health concern,” he said at a news conference. “I hope it’s...

Opinion: Oh look, I updated some of Pelosi's Kavanaugh tweets in light of credible accusations against Biden Tara Reade has accused Joe Biden of penetrative sexual assault she says occurred when she worked as his aide in the 1990s. Then a 1993 clip of "Larry King Live" surfaced featuring Reade's mother calling into the show (which was about nefariousness in Washington) seeking advice on how her daughter could deal with "problems" she experienced "working for a prominent senator" without "go[ing] to the press" "out of respect for him." Today a former neighbor of hers — a Biden supporter, Trump hater,...

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump erupted at his top political advisers last week when they presented him with worrisome polling data that showed his support eroding in a series of battleground states as his response to the coronavirus comes under criticism. As the virus takes its deadly toll and much of the nation’s economy remains shuttered, new surveys by the Republican National Committee and Trump’s campaign pointed to a harrowing picture for the president as he faces reelection. “I am not f—ing losing to Joe Biden,” he repeated in a series of heated conference calls with his top campaign officials,...

The Trump administration has acted to ensure that no funds from the new Paycheck Protection Program, set up to assist small businesses battered by COVID-19, will go to Planned Parenthood. “President Trump is committed to ensuring Paycheck Protection Program money is used for saving jobs at small businesses, not getting the government into the business of funding abortion,” a senior administration official told The Daily Signal. “While not all Americans share President Trump’s pro-life beliefs, there is broad bipartisan support for the idea that American taxpayers should not have to fund abortion,” the official said Wednesday night. >>> When can...

The Trump administration is planning to speed up development of a coronavirus vaccine with the goal of having 100 million doses ready by the end of 2020, a senior administration official said on Wednesday. The official declined to be publicly identified. Executives and other experts have previously suggested that clinical trials to guarantee a vaccine is safe and effective could take a minimum of 12 to 18 months. Several agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services announced plans earlier in April to partner with more than 15 drug companies as well as European regulators in an effort to...

The New York City subway system will stop running 24 hours a day in an unprecedented action designed to deter homeless people and to disinfect trains and stations amid hygiene fears during the new coronavirus pandemic. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who controls the subway, said Thursday the system’s 472 stations will close between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. The overnight closures are expected to begin May 6. During more than a century of operations, the subway system has shut down for days because of labor strikes, storms and blackouts. But this is the first time the system has ceased...

The Michael Flynn case has finally been broken open, thanks to the tireless and wonderful work of Sidney Powell. Two years I wrote a post in which asserted that Flynn was framed. I believed it then and never stopped believing it. Powell released some documents which demonstrate clearly that the FBI was determined to frame Michael Flynn. "What is our goal? Truth/Admission or to get him to lie, so we can prosecute him or get him fired?," the handwritten notes of the senior official say. The notes express further concern the FBI might be "playing games." Multiple officials confirmed to...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told a reporter that she doesn't "need a lecture or a speech" comparing the treatment of sexual assault allegations against former Vice President Joe Biden and Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Washington Examiner reporter Kerry Picket asked Pelosi at a press conference how "Democrats square with the idea that they're essentially standing by Biden but used a comparatively different standard with Justice Kavanaugh when you demanded an investigation against Kavanaugh when a similar allegation came out against him." “I respect your question, and I don’t need a lecture or a speech,” Pelosi responded. “I have...

A big box arrived yesterday with a West Palm Beach return address. I thought it was probably something from a lawyer related to my mother's estate. I didn't bother to open it until just now. It's a full set of Rush's History Series featuring Liberty the talking horse. I had purchased Brave Pilgrims long ago for my granddaughter. Some months ago Rush said that one could request these books, so I did; but I completely forgot about it. I had mentioned that I didn't need another copy of Brave Pilgrims but it was in my package too. Thanks, Rush; and...

Science is not a set of facts. Science is a method by which we try to work out facts. But when science course-corrects in the public eye, instead of being lauded as improving our models, the public and media seize on it by saying, "Doctors don't know what they're doing. Doctors are killing people." COVID-19 is a new disease, one we've never seen before. When it first hit our shores, we thought it would behave in the same way that other pneumonias that cause an acute respiratory distress syndrome, or ARDS, do. These patients have stiff lungs and require high...

A 2008 column in the far-left magazine CounterPunch accusing Joe Biden of “loutish sexual advances” in the U.S. Senate has become a lightning rod in the debate over Biden and his former staffer Tara Reade’s allegation of sexual assault in 1993. Biden, in the late Alexander Cockburn view, was an empty and worthless swamp creature, a D.C. insider chosen purely to improve Obama’s electoral odds. Five paragraphs in, Cockburn made an aside about Biden’s character that accused him of harassing women who worked in the Senate, even while he was supposedly grieving over his wife’s death: "Biden is a notorious...
