...Every day the lockdown continues, its implicit message that we are all going to die if we engage in normal life is reinforced. Polls show an increasing number of Americans opting to continue the economic quarantine indefinitely lest they be unsafe. The longer that belief is reinforced, the less likely it will be that consumers will patronize reopened restaurants or board airplanes in sufficient numbers to bring the economy back to life.

My company just decided we were working well from home and made working from home optional on a permanent basis. I opted for it.
Assuming many other companies do the same, this is going to cause economic changes. 60% of Americans can work from home.
Local economies will be strengthened. Businesses around corporate centers not so much.
That is precisely why a Great Global Depression is the intended outcome.
Youre right, and I think that has some people who are making tons of money rigging the system in high rent areas very concerned.
Maybe fire all the CDC people and start hiring non-political doctors and nurses and scientists. (if you could find enough that is)

I agree with you but a lot of these federal agencies need to be moved out of metro DC area and disbursed around the entire country. The bureaucracy in DC has and infestation of self-serving families that have worked in it over many generations.
Since when did “supply & demand” become “rigging the system”?
of course they are...money and POWER!
The only thing they’re maintaining here is anger.
It will be great news for the freeways.
Reduce carbon and all that /s
The COVID Panic-demic.
If it will reduce my commute I’m all for more people working at home.
Perfectly said. That's how I and many people I know here in The People's Republik of Connecticut have been feeling. Sick of this unconstitutional tyrannical bullsh*t!
Screw the chinese virus. Screw tyrants. This America...Freedom!
“Youre right, and I think that has some people who are making tons of money rigging the system in high rent areas very concerned.”
A young woman who grew up about 200 yards from our home on the same culdesac came home with her 6 mo old baby to help her mother recover from a mild stroke. She flew in on 13 Mar and every thing went upside down then.
She told her NY City bosses, that she was staying out here with her baby and recovering mother. They approve and paid for an office to be set up in her parents home. She works in finance and is able to handle her job from here. She informed her bosses and husband, no more NY City for here.
He will be coming out soon.
A niece and her husband are working from their homes and their 2 kids are finishing their 3rd and 5th grade at home.
One of my wife’s SIL is recovering from thyroid cancer and her husband, my wife’s brother, told his wife’s boss that she was not driving to work, 45 minutes each way and didn’t
want her sharing germs with a dozen co workers. Her bosses retroed a spare bedroom at their home, into an office in their home, on the company’s dime. That was done the week before the crud hit.
Now they are saying when the crud is over, she can come to their office a couple of half days per month.
We have two grand kids, who are finishing up this semester at home on line. The son a freshman is doing well and the bad professor he had earlier this year has been fired. Her bosses saw what a miserable professor/teacher she was/is after viewing a couple of her classes.
His sister is finishing the courses of her 3rd year in Nursing School. They have not figured out how to do the hands on clinical classes/sessions.
Our two adult sons are considered essential. One inherited his boss’s cell and probably his job after this stuff hit. He did get a good raise and a couple of bonuses at first.
The other got a van for his secretary equipped with all the necessary electronic gear. That way she can met him at job sites. Neither one are missing the old heavy commute. They are doing about a half day in the office every two weeks.
They suppress any ideas that might counter the panic.
Let’s have a little history lesson.
1. On March 16, 2020 President Trump issued the 15 days to slowdown covid order. On March 15, 2020 the USA had had 65 deaths. On March 15, 2020 we had some data that covid caused deaths in elderly and those with preexisting medical conditions, but not much.
2. On April 1, 2020 President Trump issued the 30 days to slowdown covid order. On April 1, 2020 the USA had had 5100 deaths. On April 1, 2020 we had more data that covid caused deaths in elderly and those with preexisting medical conditions, but not much more than on March 15, 2020.
3. On April 30, 2020 the USA will report more than 64,000 deaths. On April 30, 2020 we have tons of data that covid caused deaths in elderly and those with preexisting medical conditions.
But on April 30, 2020 we still do not have from the pontificating bureaucrats Birx and Fauci is detailed spreadsheet of each and every one of the 64,000 people who have died from corona virus.
The spreadsheet would include the following data:
1. Date of Death
2. Age at date of death
3. Medical History including prior medical issues.
4. Comorbidities at date of death including BMI, diabetes, heart issues, cancer, alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, obesity, renal diseases, etc.
The blowhards at the CDC and NIH do not want the American public to see this data as it would blow their grand plan to keep people locked up.
We all suspect that people under the age of 65 who get infected with corona virus do not die unless they have comorbidities.
We also suspect that people over the age of 65 who get infected with corona virus do not die if they are healthy individuals.
President Trump needs to issue his next order to the NIH and CDC and to the State Health Departments that they have 24 hours to put together a spreadsheet listing the above details on the 64,000 people who have died.
Restaurants are allowed to open here in MO on May 4th, my wife’s B-day, so we’ll be going to one
I think those companies are going to just fine :)
I think a thing that is going to happen will be a shift in the demand curve resulting in a new equilibrium point that may benefit banks, tech firms, and innumerable makers in our national economy.
