US and China WAR May be Inevitable, As Economy Collapses And Democrats And GOP Fight, War Approaches. The Thucydides Trap says that whenever a rising power moves to displace the existing superpower war is inevitable. 5 years ago The Atlantic wrote that not only was war with the US and China likely it was way more likely than anyone realized. They wrote that something could happen that will cause a cascade affect resulting in total war. And now many people are bullish on war. A series of military confrontations, China's attempts to cause us harm during the crisis, the collapse...

Governors are beginning to announce timelines for relaxing strict measures taken to mitigate the coronavirus. Many states are dropping stay-at-home orders beginning May 1, while several states have not yet announced an end to restrictions. At the federal level, President Trump last week issued guidelines “that will allow governors to take a phased and deliberate approach to reopening their individual states.” “Governors will be empowered to tailor an approach that meets the diverse circumstances of their own states,” Trump said. “And some states will be able to open up sooner than others.” SNIP

We may be witnessing the birth of a movement that could be the most important result of the COVID-19 nightmare: the anti-lockdown protests sweeping the country. Per our usual agreement, the media is totally getting it wrong. It’s not about being able to go to restaurants or movies or even only about going back to work. It’s certainly not about a death cult or not taking the virus seriously. The protests are, at core, about people who want their rights back — rights that have been snatched in just a few weeks time. It’s driven by people who understand the...

BOLINAS — In the 1970s, this remote seaside village gained a measure of notoriety when the quirky characters who lived here successfully halted new development and became the subject of the book, “The Town that Fought to Save Itself.” Now, nearly 50 years later, the Marin County town is fighting to save itself once again — this time from the threat of coronavirus. Starting Monday, a privately-funded guerrilla-style operation will be underway to test the entire town of 1,680 people for the deadly virus. It’s an extraordinarily rare privilege at a time when most of the country is desperate to...

In leftist cities around the country, including New York and Philadelphia, local officials have been releasing criminals from jails. They've used the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus as justification and promised their communities that only the "non-violent" offenders would be let out onto the streets. The reality and consequences of these decisions are hitting...hard. To any person with the ability to think logically, it was obvious from the beginning of this scheme that innocent people would be victimized. It's happening. But New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, a champion of disastrous "bail reform," still doesn't get it. When asked...

I guess Joe Biden isn’t the only part of his campaign that can devolve into incoherence on a live stream, but I’d think this example isn’t a result of dementia. Rather, she’s just choosing to outright lie. Symone Sanders, who once worked for Bernie Sanders, is a senior adviser for the Biden campaign now. She “interviewed” Tony Goldwyn via one of their streaming hits and then went to Twitter to make a rather ridiculous assertion. She actually attempted to blame Republicans for the PPP money running out for small businesses.

or more than two decades, the system codified in federal law for ensuring that persons prohibited from possessing a firearm are not able to lawfully acquire one from a licensed firearms retailer has worked reasonably well. Since 1998 when the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or “NICS,” became operational, the FBI has completed hundreds of millions of background checks on prospective gun purchasers; 28.4 million last year alone. For some reason, however, the FBI recently has taken to playing games with NICS, and by bureaucratic fiat ignoring or overriding an important provision in the law. Neither firearms purchasers nor...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers called on Sunday for expanding payroll assistance to struggling local newspapers and broadcast stations that have seen advertising revenue plummet during the coronavirus pandemic. Democratic Senators Maria Cantwell and Amy Klobuchar and Republicans John Kennedy and John Boozman urged Senate leaders to revise the rules to make thousands of local newspapers, TV and radio stations eligible for assistance under the Paycheck Protection Program. Many local outlets are ineligible because they are owned by parent companies too large to qualify.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she may oppose the next federal coronavirus aid bill for being too small and is urging Republicans concerned about the national debt to help her raise taxes to finance items such as recurring $2,000 direct payments. The New York Democrat, a self-declared socialist who represents one of the areas hardest-hit by the virus, said Monday, “We cannot bow to the logic that a dime and a crumb is better than nothing. We need to be able to play hardball.” “If you’re worried about the deficit and if you’re worried about our national debt, let’s raise some...

Grumpy. Gruff. Stern. Steely. Unrelenting. All these adjectives aptly describe Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot. She may not be someone you’d invite for a drink, Like her predecessor, Lightfoot brings a tough, take-no-prisoners style. Unlike her predecessor, she doesn’t pretend to be soft and fuzzy even in these lonely pandemic times. That’s a very good thing. She is pushing her citywide order with a stern, steely, unrelenting message: “Stay home. Save lives.”

The COVID-19 pandemic is having a major impact on the delivery of sexual and reproductive healthcare around the world, according to a survey of its national members conducted by the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). 5,633 static and mobile clinics and community-based care outlets have already closed because of the outbreak, across 64 countries. They make up 14 % of the total service delivery points IPPF members ran in 2018. For static clinics – which provided 114 million services to clients in 2018 – the figure is even worse. More than one in five has already closed – 546 in...

There will have to be a decrease in positive coronavirus cases over 14 days before Wisconsin can start a phased reopening of nonessential businesses, Gov. Tony Evers said on Monday when releasing new criteria for when the state will begin to reopen. The release of the plan comes amid growing criticism from businesses and Republicans about Evers’ order issued last week keeping most nonessential businesses closed until May 26. Evers said the Wisconsin plan was informed by federal guidelines that were released by the White House last week. Wisconsin does not meet that federal criteria for reopening, but Evers said...

As the president of the United States shelters in place with the White House press corps, and Joe Biden gibbers senselessly into the GoPro camera in his Delaware basement, this fall’s national election has been thrown into a cocked tricorn by the coronavirus. Many of Donald Trump’s retail-politicking strengths — the huge rallies, his command of crowds — have been neutralized, and while he still has control of the narrative from his bully pulpit in the West Wing, the national media remains dead set against him, and puts the worst possible spin on every word he speaks. Meanwhile, Biden and...
