NEW YORK, Oct. 27—The New York Yankees finished another season in the only place they feel comfortable. They finished on top of the baseball world, celebrating a 25th championship in a heap of bodies on the pitcher's mound of the game's most hallowed patch of earth. In a season when they faced relentless pressure, were forced to deal with unexpected slumps and personal tragedy, these Yankees, like the Yankees of Ruth and Mantle before them, answered every challenge. They did so again tonight by completing a methodical four-game sweep of the Atlanta Braves with a 4-1 victory in Game 4...

On Friday night, Bill Maher tore into the liberal media for their apocalyptic coverage of the Wuhan coronavirus. The HBO host believes all the doom-and-gloom headlines are making Trump the optimist, and optimists, Maher warns his fellow liberals, "tend to win American elections." The comedian cited the campaigns of FDR and even Obama who ran and won on messages of hope. "Enough with the life-will-never-be-the-same headlines," Maher implored the liberal media. "Last month, The Washington Post ran the headline 'It Feels Like a Warzone' with this picture." The picture shows a grocery store worker restocking eggs. "This is not a...

MONDAY, Feb. 12, 2018 (HealthDay News) -- As a particularly nasty flu season rages across the United States, scientists have found a powerful new disinfectant that makes "light" work of the virus. Researchers say a certain spectrum of ultraviolet light -- called far-UVC -- easily kills airborne flu viruses while posing no risk to people. It could offer a new, inexpensive way to eliminate airborne flu viruses in indoor public spaces such as hospitals, doctors' offices, schools, airports and aircraft, said the team from Columbia University Medical Center in New York City.

Switzerland's famed Matterhorn mountain was illuminated with an American flag for a few hours as a symbol of solidarity during the coronavirus pandemic. "Our thoughts are with all American people at this unprecedented time. We look forward to meeting again at the foot of the Matterhorn, we are all in this together," the tourism organization Zermatt Matterhorn wrote on its Facebook page. Light artist Gerry Hofstetter projected the flag onto the 14,692-foot-tall peak in the Swiss Alps as part of a nightly series designed to show the town of Zermatt's support for everyone suffering and those fighting the pandemic.

TRENTON, NJ – Governor Phil Murphy said on Fox News that he did not consider the Constitution of the United States when enacting a series of executive orders, now known as “Murphy’s Law” to prevent citizens from leaving their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. On Friday, it appears that the New Jersey State Police also were not thinking of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution as an officer ticketed vehicles parked in downtown Trenton in protest. “Today, a non-partisan protest was held in Trenton regarding the lockdown in our state,” said the Central Jersey Libertarians. “It was a peaceful...

Respiratory syncytial virus is similar to cold or flu, but patients have trouble breathing and it can cause other severe infections. The sniffles, coughing and sneezing echoing throughout classrooms and offices make it clear the cold and flu season is in full swing. Doctors have noticed one illness in particular, respiratory syncytial virus, has been spreading faster and causing more hospitalizations for children than usual. “In the 35 years I’ve been doing this, I don’t know that I have ever seen RSV come on so strong so early in the season,” Dr. Dan McGee, a pediatric hospitalist at Helen DeVos...

Millions of masks purchased by the State of Illinois from China may not be useable by those on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic, after multiple states recalled similar equipment Thursday. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has been scouring the world for gowns, gloves and masks to protect medical workers and first responders across the state from COVID-19. That includes many KN95 masks bought from China, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said earlier this month was an acceptable alternative to the United States approved N95 masks. State spending records reveal Illinois has already spent nearly $17 million...

Crosley Green, convicted of murder in 1990, says he's the innocent victim of a racial hoax.Correspondent Erin Moriarty and "48 Hours" take a deep look into the case of Crosley Green — a case that Moriarty has been covering for two decades and involves serious questions about whether Green was convicted on what his attorneys have referred to in court documents as a racial hoax. "Crosley Green's Hard Time" airs Saturday, April 18 at 10/9c on CBS. It's a difficult concept to accept: that a person could get convicted of murder simply because someone claimed "a black guy did it."...

In a newly published study, which has not been peer-reviewed, researchers investigating the virus’s origin analyzed global viral samples and concluded that the virus must have first infected humans between September 13 and December 7. “The virus may have mutated into its final ‘human-efficient’ form months ago, but stayed inside a bat or other animal, or even human, for several months without infecting other individuals,” University of Cambridge geneticist Peter Forster, one of the study’s researchers, said. “Then, it started infecting and spreading among humans between September 13 and December 7, generating the network we present in [the journal] Proceedings...

Gov. Phil Murphy painted a dire outlook for New Jersey public worker jobs on Saturday afternoon, pleading for more financial aid to lift a state economy that has been cratered by the coronavirus. “We will have layoffs that will be historic,” Murphy warned, as he called for Congress to send more direct aid to states, and as he urged state lawmakers to help him borrow billions of dollars. He added that the layoffs would be felt through New Jersey, at the state, county and local levels. “That’s what’s at stake. I don’t know how many, but it is big, big...

The federal stimulus checks received by millions of Americans Wednesday to help ease the economic windfall caused by the coronavirus pandemic were also sent to unexpected recipients — dead people. Numerous Americans took to social media to share tales of the misdirected dough delivered as part of the $2.2 trillion bailout package passed by Congress last month, including Republican Congressman Thomas Massie. The Kentucky lawmaker tweeted an image of a text from a friend whose deceased father received a $1,200 check. The father died in 2018. “Ok this is insane, but just the tip of the iceberg,” Massie wrote. “This is a...
