104 Agents, basically the size of a military company (100 men) and these guys just can not seem to maintain control over their weapons. Their patrol rifles are stolen, their pistols are stolen and when directed to secure them with handcuffs, an agent shoots himself when he triggerlocks a loaded pistol. Really, these guys qualify for the Gomer Battalion in any Army in the world.

IPSWICH (MA)— An apparent effort to avoid controversy over the current health care debate led employees at the Ipswich YMCA to stop showing Fox News Channel on televisions in the gym this week, after several members complained that it was promoting "hate speech." But the decision, made while the director of the County Road facility was on vacation, has been reversed, said Jack Meany, executive director of the YMCA of the North Shore, which includes six facilities in Essex County. "We're very careful as an organization to be apolitical," Meany said yesterday, shortly after learning of the situation. "The Y,...

Revelation 3 14And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; 15I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: 18I counsel thee...

Gabrielle "Gabi" Swank dreamed of traveling to Africa as a Christian missionary. Now the 16-year-old Wichitan rarely leaves her house, but she's on a mission — warning girls, parents and doctors against Gardasil. Gabi's doctor and family think the cervical cancer vaccine caused a life-threatening condition that is affecting her immune and nervous systems. Other experts say there's no link: The vaccine is safe — and a better option than risking cervical cancer. Whatever the case, Gabi spends her days fighting her disease and urging others to fight Gardasil. "Preventing cervical cancer is a great idea. This vaccine could...

NEW YORK - The Obama administration plans to issue new guidelines meant to provide prisoners at a U.S. detention center in Afghanistan greater latitude in challenging their detention, The New York Times reported in its Sunday edition. Citing Pentagon officials and advocates for detainees at the U.S.-run prison at Bagram Air Base, the newspaper said each of the approximately 600 detainees would be assigned a U.S. military official who would have the authority to look for evidence, including witnesses and classified material, for any detainee challenging his detention. WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama said he is confident Congress will pass "a good health care bill," as months of rancor over reforming the nation's health care system seemed to be easing Sunday, with the White House playing down an immediate role for a government insurance option. At the same time, Obama was critical of Republican opponents who he said were trying to block an overhaul of the nation's heath care system for political gain. "I believe that we will have enough votes to pass not just any health care bill, but a good health care bill that helps the...

NEW YORK – Serena Williams faces an anxious wait to see if she is to be banned from future Grand Slam tournaments following her controversial outburst at the U.S. Open. Williams was levied with a $10,000 fine by the U.S. Open for unsportsmanlike conduct on Sunday for her foul-mouthed tirade at a line judge the night before, as she slumped to a semifinals defeat to Kim Clijsters. The fine was the maximum possible at this stage. An additional $500 fine for racket abuse was also imposed by tournament referee Brian Earley, but those on-site punishments could be just the tip...

IN one of the best scenes in “The Hucksters,” one of the best movies about advertising, Sydney Greenstreet, as the demanding client who makes Beautee soap, tells Clark Gable, as a Don Draper-ish adman named Victor Norman, how to peddle his product — or anything else. “Beautee soap, Beautee soap, Beautee soap,” Greenstreet intones. “Repeat it until it comes out of their ears. Repeat it until they say it in their sleep. Irritate them, Mr. Norman. Irritate, irritate, irritate them.” Jay Leno is no soap. And he is certainly no Beautee. But by Monday night, when “The Jay Leno Show”...

The mainstream media seem dumbfounded that any thinking person could object to President Obama's speech to schoolchildren on Sept. 8. The president simply told kids to work hard and stay in school, right? The controversy is just more proof, the media seem to have concluded, that Obama's critics are kooks and yahoos -- you know, the sort of foaming-at-the-mouth folks who show up for tea parties or town hall meetings, or seem compelled to lie reflexively about Obama's health care reform proposals. Why are the mainstream media so clueless about the anger and disillusionment growing among independents and conservatives? The...
