LONDON (Reuters) - The U.S. Navy said on Wednesday it appeared pirates had tried to attack one of its big military oil tankers. A security team aboard the vessel opened fire on two small boats near Somalia after they ignored warnings and pursued the ship, a U.S. Fifth Fleet spokesman said. "From all appearances it does look like it was a pirate attack and the incident is currently under investigation," he said by telephone from Bahrain. He said the Military Sealift Command (MSC) oil tanker, the John Lenthall, which usually carries a range of fuels for the U.S. armed forces,...

Rep. Alcee Hastings told an audience of Jewish Democrats Wednesday that they should be wary of Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin because “anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks.” “If Sarah Palin isn’t enough of a reason for you to get over whatever your problem is with Barack Obama, then you damn well had better pay attention,” Rep. Alcee Hastings of Florida said at a panel about the shared agenda of Jewish and African-American Democrats Wednesday. Hastings, who is African-American, was explaining what he intended to tell his Jewish...

“No. But I think it would be — if we’re trying to win in Florida, it may be that,” Clinton began, before discussing his real Florida target: “You know, they think that because of who I am and where my politic[al] base has traditionally been, they may want me to go sort of hustle up what Lawton Chiles used to call the ‘cracker vote’ there.”

My syndicated column today tackles the bailout angle no one wants to talk about: Open borders and the home loan debacle. You’ve heard a lot about Fannie/Freddie and the minority lending shakedowns, but you haven’t heard most commentators/analysts on either the left or the right talk about the massive illegal alien mortgage racket — a topic I’ve reported on for the past five years. That’s because fault lies at the feet of the crime-enabling banking industry and the ethnic lobbyists and the illegal alien-enabling Bush administration. They screwed us. Now, they want us to fork over a trillion dollars. Screw...

Allen Park, MI (Sports Network) - Matt Millen has been relieved of his duties as president and CEO of the Detroit Lions. Lions owner and chairman William Clay Ford made the announcement Wednesday. "I believe that this decision is in the best interest of this organization," said Ford. "I appreciate Matt's efforts. Matt worked tirelessly during his tenure to win, and he would be the first one to tell you that you have to win in this league. It just didn't work out." Millen had been in charge of the Lions since 2001. The team has produced an NFL-worst record...

The chess pieces are in place and John McCain has just moved his bishop to the checkmate position. No one should believe for a second that John McCain expected Barrack Obama to suspend the campaign, delay the debate or join with John McCain to help solve this crisis. John McCain knew how Obama would respond and you can write it down, McCain has already drawn up plans on how to hit Obama and hit him hard over this. Obama has made his intention to continue his campaign public and took at shot at McCain by stating EXACTLY what was posted...

URBANA, Ohio — With women jumping on the Sarah Palin bandwagon, Carole King is doing her best to get them on the Obama Loco-Motion instead. The legendary songwriter, who wrote the pop classic for Little Eva back in the early '60s, made a stop at Urbana University on Wednesday, Sept. 24, to have a heart-to-heart with other natural women. In what was billed as a women's roundtable, King confessed she started as a Hillary Clinton supporter. "I keep hearing in the media about this faction of Hillary supporters who are going to vote for McCain," she said. "In what universe?"...

A Democrat tells ABC News that in a phone call late this afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., that it would NOT be helpful for him to come back to Washington, DC, to work on the Wall Street bailout bill. McCain this afternoon suspended his campaign and said he would skip the first presidential debate in order to return to Capitol Hill to work on the log jammed Bush administration legislation, which as of Wednesday afternoon was in peril. When contacted, the McCain campaign did not have any comment.

Rock matriarch-turned-reality show queen SHARON OSBOURNE is urging Americans not to vote for U.S. Vice-President hopeful SARAH PALIN - because the Republican nomination of the Alaskan Governor is just a desperate ploy to win women's votes. The Brit, who fronts U.S. talent show America's Got Talent, was astonished when Palin was named as Senator John McCain's running mate and she hopes American women aren't stupid enough to vote for her. Outspoken Osbourne says, "I'm shocked and stunned about this lady... It reminds me of, like, a hokey Disney movie... where somebody from nowhere suddenly ends up ruling the world. "I...

Obama made a stunning gaffe in his press conference this afternoon, responding to McCain suspending his campaign and the economic crisis. Obama said, "If they [Congress] need me, call me." Wow. There could be no further contrast in leadership between these two men. McCain rolls up his sleaves and says "let's get something done." And Obama says "call me if you need me." Stunning.

Since the Democrats are against executive pay how about a proposal. Both Houses of Congress take a pay cut until we get out of this "Credit Crisis"?? Democrats think anyone who makes over 100 grand is rich and should be taxed. Why should a Democrat lawmaker get a large salary and perks when the Economy is down, Gas is up, and they have achieved nothing?? OH yeah I forgot lawmakers spend our money and won't give up a penny of their own or "Pork" projects......Oh well guess it's time for the lowly tax payer to Bend Over! Change is all...

Joe Biden went on offense on national security against John McCain today, but skipped a few points in making his attack. He painted McCain as dangerously out of touch, and used Iraq as an example. However, Biden made the counterpoint himself — without even realizing it:

Revival: Not Just Intensity of Prayer He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him. --John 14:21 Intensity of prayer is no criterion of its effectiveness. A man may throw himself on his face and sob out his troubles to the Lord and yet have no intention to obey the commandments of Christ. Strong emotion and tears may be no more than the outcropping of a vexed spirit, evidence of stubborn resistance to God's...
