A Democrat tells ABC News that in a phone call late this afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., that it would NOT be helpful for him to come back to Washington, DC, to work on the Wall Street bailout bill.
McCain this afternoon suspended his campaign and said he would skip the first presidential debate in order to return to Capitol Hill to work on the log jammed Bush administration legislation, which as of Wednesday afternoon was in peril.
When contacted, the McCain campaign did not have any comment.

What a putz.
Didn’t Reid earlier demand that McCain lend his support on this issue?
Geee........I didn’t know that McCain worked for Reid. Amazing!
Were Reid to leave DC and go find his searchlight, the country would be better off.
Can we say the same thing to Reid?
Reid is scared.
OMG this gets better and better every minute!
Who knew a presidential election could get THIS entertaining!
Reid is a crook.
he doesnt want anyone to see that He is an Incompetent idiot.
Look at the Nevada Economy...Reid trashed it.
Reid called out Bush on the issue, but since the Dems call McCain “McSame”, it is basically a flip-flop.
McCain is a sitting senator!!!!
What right does this Harry Reid character to tell McCain he shouldn’t come back. It was the Dem’s who caused all this in the first place ....
Go with it John, you are doing great.
At best Reid’s statement is an hilarious admission that Congress is not a worthwhile enterprise under Reid’s direction.
Harry Reid is a total idiot.
Reid is pissed... his vacation plans are being messed up.
McCain ought to remind Reid that McCain, Obama, and Biden are all accepting paychecks for doing the work of the Senate.
After all, Reid has shown amazing leadership at this time of crisis. I think the message to Reid from McCain should be simply....”STFU”!
Hey DINGY HARRY ... You telling a Senator to NOT DO HIS JOB??
You’re even DUMBER than I gave you Credit for.
Does McCain finally understand that his dear senatorial colleagues across the aisle will happily stab him in the back in order to win, and that this will be true if and after he is elected President as well?
They have to be fought with their own weapons. Reid and the rest of them will deliberately block solutions and tank the economy to gain themselves more power. They need to be exposed and defeated, and only McCain can do it.
McCain works for the people of Arizona right now, not Dingy Harry.
He also said in 42 days the next president will have to step in. I thought President Bush would still be there until January 20th, 2009. What a buffoon Barry is.
