Anyone old enough to remember using Windows 98 when it was still current can attest to the fact that it was a really fantastic operating system. It made big improvements over Windows 95 in almost every area that mattered, and at the time it actually looked extremely sleek and clean. Today, of course, it’s absolutely ancient, but one brave man took it upon himself to see if it’s still possible to use a Windows 98 system as your primary computer today, and the results are actually quite astounding.

For the first time in ages, I am refurbing an arcade machine. I have done nine of them, but it has been a while. Anyway, I use an old Win98 PC to emulate arcade games in the old case, and I have forgotten if this can be done...I am trying to idiot proof the machine so after I get it set up, people won't be messing with the OS. Recent statistics released by W3Counter reveal that the market share of Windows 98 fell from 1.44 percent to 1.34 percent in August, reducing it to the same level of popularity as the open source Linux operating system, which saw its market share increase from 1.33 to 1.34 in the same period. If the steady downward trend in Windows 98's market share continues, the popularity of Linux will soon surpass that of Microsoft's outdated, nine-year-old Windows version.

Excerpt - Microsoft again warned today that customers face security risks if they use some of its ageing operating systems after it ends support for them next month. If you are using Windows 98, best to get them.Also, if you are using the old version of Ad Aware by Lavasoft, you should get the second edition. Hi all; I have the opportunity to purchase a Windows 98 Second Edition FULL version install CD, not the Upgrade version. (I'm not upgrading to XP or 2000 just yet because they're incompatible with too many of my peripherals.) My question: Will the full Win 98 SE CD wipe out my existing software installed with Windows 98 (E-mail client, network settings, etc.)? Or will it just upgrade Win 98, leaving the existing applications alone?
