MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Most of the newly ordered maps redrawing Wisconsin’s political boundaries for the state Legislature would keep Republicans in majority control, but their dominance would be reduced, according to an independent analysis of the plans. Seven sets of new state Senate and Assembly maps were submitted on Friday, the deadline given by the Wisconsin Supreme Court to propose new maps after it ruled three weeks ago that the current ones drawn by Republicans were unconstitutional. The ruling stands to shake up battleground Wisconsin’s political landscape in a presidential election year.

In January, some members of the House Freedom Caucus refused to vote for Kevin McCarthy as House speaker unless he promised concessions. They won. Now, the staunchly conservative group is expanding into an area where they could make a far larger difference: Red states where laws can be passed without support from Democrats. The State Freedom Caucus Network has rapidly taken root in 11 states, promising to make sure that states where Republicans have a mandate legislate like it. While their House counterparts have been criticized as obstructionist — failing to understand the need for compromise in a closely matched...

Left-wing activist and filmmaker Michael Moore said Thursday on MSNBC’s “The Beat” that Democrats will keep control of Congress in the midterms because the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. More said, “They’re not going to win next Tuesday. I know it seems like I take a minority position on this because the media is full of a lot of how the Republicans are surging and the Republicans are doing so well, and so this race we’re going to lose.

President Biden on Wednesday predicted Democrats can pick up three Senate seats in in the upcoming midterm elections, as the country reckons with the Supreme Court looking set to overturn Roe v. Wade. “I think we can pick up three Senate seats” and increase the Democratic majority in the House, Biden said at a Democratic National Committee (DNC) fundraiser in Chicago. He argued that the Supreme Court’s leaked opinion on abortion rights, if held, could generate enthusiasm on the Democratic side in November, due to the on-the-ground consequences of such a decision.

A majority of Americans back both the bipartisan infrastructure bill and Democrats' much larger budget reconciliation spending plan, according to a new poll. The USA Today-Suffolk University survey indicated that about 63 percent of Americans support the roughly $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, which passed the Senate earlier this month, USA Today reported on Wednesday. Almost all Democrats but only 36 percent of Republicans polled reportedly support the plan. The $3.5 trillion reconciliation package, which is geared toward Democratic priorities and has been advertised as a “human infrastructure” bill, received less support but still a majority at 52 percent, including...

All those heavy hitters. All that money, and in a “blue state” no less. And yet…it wasn’t even close. The big bucks, the big endorsements, the push from big business and big tech, came to nothing. And the pundits are baffled

finding that Republicans have a double-digit advantage in its generic ballot test. Nevertheless, with the prospect of a GOP takeover in the House, many Republicans are quietly asking, is this necessarily a good thing? The question is not new. For months, a quiet undercurrent of concern has emerged, from whispers in the GOP cocktail party scene to intermittent ruminations from national writers. In June, former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer admitted that while he hoped Republicans make significant gains, "I want them to fall one vote short of taking the House." Fleischer explained his apparent political blasphemy by suggesting...

AUGUSTA - The already charged political atmosphere at the State House got kicked up a notch Tuesday after a cadre of Republican lawmakers challenged a key funding provision of the Democrats' majority state budget with a proposed people's veto referendum. Last month, minority Republicans in the House and Senate were unable to prevent passage of a two-year state budget bill that included a provision allowing Maine to borrow up to $450 million to fund ongoing government expenses without voter approval. Over GOP objections, Democrats pushed the budget through with a majority vote and then adjourned the regular session of the...

Will freedom work in Iraq? Posted: January 13, 2005 1:00 a.m. Eastern © 2005 WorldNetDaily.com I share President Bush's hope that freedom will prosper in Iraq. I agree with President Bush that freedom is the best way to deter war because free nations seldom attack one another. I remain cautiously optimistic that the free election this month in Iraq will be a very important step toward reshaping the Middle East and countering the oppression and violence that has too often marked the history of the region. However, as Americans we need to realize freedom is about more than elections. The...

The Conservative movement has many intellectual streams. Some of the names which readily come to mind are, Traditionalist, Idealist, Realist, Conservationist, Christian Right, Natural Law, Agrarian, Classicist, Tory, Libertarian, Classical Liberal and Neocon. Conservatives can win elections only when there is a coalition of all or most of the streams working together. So far, this has only happened when the opponent is clearly a Liberal. A moderate Democrat can win if there is a lack of solidarity among Conservatives. The danger for emerging majorities is the tendency for their coalition to split apart. Beyond considerations of Power, there are questions...
