Took many road trips with my 4 kids. I’d never heard the dead skunk growing up but we all heard it 1st together, immediately loved that ditty as we sang along in the car. So since that song got it's own thread I felt sure both this song and artist deserves a thread as well, we enjoyed most all the Heywood Banks songs. My fav song is: Toast but the kids favorite was: The Cat got Dead

Last week I was going through a big sheaf of recipes that I’d clipped or printed-out over the years but never tried. I found an America’s Test Kitchen recipe for Chicken and Shrimp Jambalaya, and decided to try it. I’d never had Jambalaya, and I suspect that this is a mild, basic version – it turned out very well, though we thought it should have been ‘hotter’. This was probably because our supermarket Andouille was probably not as hot as the more authentic, ‘artisanal’ ones are. We altered the original recipe slightly, using two peppers, one red and one green;...

It is now getting dark in Paris and in all of France(appx. 6:40 PM Paris Time), and if there are any French FR lurkers(lurquers), this may be the thread to post your reports about any further violence. It seems the French govt. is impotent in it's response to what seems are jihadist thugs and it seems the American media has put a news blackout filter to what is really happening, so as not to embarass their heroes, Chirac et al. So any news reports or personal reports from what happens tonight are welcome, and don't worry about broken English, reports...

French unrest spreads outside Paris Staff and agencies Friday November 4, 2005 A firefighter stands by at a warehouse fire in the early hours of this morning. Photograph: Pascal Le Segretain/Getty A disabled person was badly burned in an attack on a city bus and more than four hundred cars were torched during an eighth night of rioting in Paris suburbs. Government officials cited a falling number of direct clashes with police to claim that the situation was becoming calmer, but the violence also spread out of the capital's immediate vicinity. Reports of unrest surfaced in Rouen in Normandy, Dijon...

I know you all agree with me that what Cindy Sheehan is doing in Crawford, Texas is heroic and important. I met Cindy a couple of months ago when she testified at the hearing I called on the Downing Street Minutes. Later that day, she helped me deliver your signatures to the White House demanding answers from the President about his pre-war deceptions. I want to share with you what struck me about that day, and is even more relevant now. I also want to ask you for your help. It is not that hard for an elected official to...

PARIS, France (AP) -- A Norwegian man was killed after jumping from the Eiffel Tower when a parachute he was wearing got stuck on an upper deck of the monument, officials said Tuesday. Preliminary investigations indicated that the man planned to film his jump as part of publicity for a Norwegian clothing brand, police said. The man, 31, entered the tower on Monday evening with a hidden parachute and a helmet that had a small video camera attached to it, said the official at Paris' police headquarters. Upon reaching the Eiffel Tower's 115-meter-high (380-foot-high) second deck, the man jumped. Investigators...

Paris – Rule No. 1: Don't go out on the street between noon and 4 p.m. Rule No. 2: Take a shower or bath a couple of times a day. Rule No. 3: Drink as much as you can, even if you're not thirsty. No, these are not instructions for soldiers patrolling the baking streets of Baghdad. They are part of an aggressive move by the French government to avoid a repeat of the catastrophic loss of life that occurred during last year's heat wave. Last August, almost 15,000 people died in France after the country was hit by the...

Did you hear about the terrorist attack in Europe that killed 15,000? I bet you didn't. It never made a single banner headline here in the U.S. It didn't lead the television news one day. In fact, it was treated matter-of-factly because the terrorist attack that victimized Europe was perpetrated by governments we've been conditioned to believe are "compassionate." I'm talking about what has been described as last month's disastrous heat wave that killed five times as many people as were killed in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks of 2001. It wasn't really the heat that killed those people –...

THE charred body of a 22-year-old man who died while trying to get a photo of an erupting volcano on France's Indian Ocean island of Reunion was recovered today after a difficult high-altitude operation, police said. Alexandre Thiault, a student from the island's capital of Saint-Denis, was killed late yesterday after the cooled lava he was standing on crumbled away and he fell into a crack on the side of the Piton de la Fournaise volcano. Firemen who extracted his body today said the Frenchman probably died of asphyxiation from the poisonous gases inside. His body was burnt beyond recognition...

PARIS--As many as 10,000 people may have died in France's heat wave, the government acknowledged Thursday, and a solemn President Jacques Chirac promised health system changes. But he also leveled criticism at the public, saying many elderly victims ''died alone in their homes.'' Chirac, under fire from opposition politicians and newspapers for not speaking out earlier, promised ''everything will be done'' to correct failings in the health system that was overwhelmed by victims of the heat. But his government said ministers would not resign. While praising emergency, hospital and retirement home workers, Chirac peppered his address to the nation with...

<p>Welcome to the trans-Atlantic food fight. Yesterday, while Jacques Chirac was wagging his veto finger, Republican lawmakers in Washington officially decreed that the quintessential American hamburger has no business sharing a plate with greasy Gallic potatoes. French fries will henceforth be known as "freedom fries" in the House cafeteria. Breakfast will offer "freedom toast."</p>
