John Hughes’ classic 1986 teen comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is getting a spinoff about two characters who played a small but pivotal role in the original movie. According to Deadline, the new film, titled Sam and Victor’s Day Off, will follow the two titular valet employees who, in the 1986 classic, take Cameron Frye’s father’s red Ferrari for a cross-town joyride while Cameron, Ferris and Sloane Peterson gallivant around Chicago on their day off. Sam and Victor run up the odometer on the prized red Ferrari, forcing Cameron to decide how he’s finally going to confront his father, with...

The memorable parade scene from '80s teen comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off got a group of San Antonio senior citizens grooving to a quick tempo. Local folks pitched in to help residents of Adante Senior Living recreate the antics of Matthew Broderick in his iconic role as carefree teen Ferris Bueller as he lip synched and shook a tail feather to the Beatles' “Twist & Shout.” The center posted a video of the fun Tuesday on Facebook. Taking a cue from Ferris Bueller director John Hughes, the organizers took advantage of an actual parade, borrowing a float from the Poteet...

I do have a test today… It's on European Socialism. I mean, really, what's the point? I'm not European. I don't plan on being European. So, who gives a crap if they're Socialists? They could be fascist anarchists, it still wouldn't change the fact that I don't own a car. - Ferris Bueller Thanks to Boston Charlie we learned that this year is the 30th anniversary of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. And after reading the post BC linked - Ferris Bueller vs. The Snowflake Generation - I decided to dedicate today’s post to Ferris instead of the obligatory Primary...

It’s hard to believe this year is the 30th Anniversary of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the iconic film written and directed by the late John Hughes. In the film, Ferris Bueller is a high school senior and popular and smooth talking con artist who intricately plots and executes a day of hooky from school, while outwitting his parents and arch nemesis, the Dean of Students, Ed Rooney. Ed Rooney… Ferris Bueller, being a senior in high school in 1986 was born in 1968 and therefore a charter member in Generation X. Bueller, his best friend, Cameron, and girlfriend, Sloan represent...
  • How Ben Stein Came to Deliver a Lecture in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Today is both #FlashbackFriday and, according to Chicago's WGN network, the 30th anniversary of Ferris Bueller's quintessential "day off." Apparently, they figured this out not by determining the date of the Von Steuben day parade (that's actually in September), but by the date of the Chicago Cubs game Ferris and company attend as part of their Chicago adventure. To celebrate at the Spectator, you can do a little #FlashbackFriday of your own. A few months ago, our very own Ben Stein, who delivers an iconic attendance roll (and lecture on the Laffer Curve to a classroom of sleepy kids), detailed...

Question:  Ben Stein and Jonathan Gruber: Separated at Birth?Let’s watch one of the Professors try to school the stupid people, because you really can’t watch this often enough:Apparently, by their own accounts, neither Jonathan nor Ben are geniuses: “I'm not a Mensa member. I have no idea where that rumor came from. I never have been, and I doubt if I ever will be.” Ben Stein Gowdy: “So you’re a professor at MIT and you’re worried about not looking smart enough?”Gruber: “Yes.” Gowdy: “OK. Well, you succeeded, if that was your goal.” And both seem amazed at how easy it...

the Chicago-area home featured in the film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" has found a buyer. COLDWELL BANKER The Chicago-area home where Ferris Bueller's friend Cameron famously "killed" his father's prized Ferrari finally has a new owner. Crain's Chicago Business reports that the modernist home in Highland Park sold Thursday for $1.06 million, five years after it first came on the market. Craig Hogan is regional director at Coldwell Banker Previews. He wouldn't say who bought the four-bedroom, steel-and-glass house built on the edge of a wooded ravine. The house, built in 1953 by Mies van der Rohe-protege A. James Speyer,...

Those of us of a certain age will remember the cheeky-faced young man who burst onto our screens and encouraged us all to ditch school for the day. Now, almost three decades on, that irresistible truant Ferris Bueller, the sausage king of Chicago, is back - and this time he's taking a day off work. Matthew Broderick is set to reprise his most famous role after a ten-second clip was posted on YouTube, showing the actor, now 49, acting a famous line from the 1986 film - with a 2012 twist. This weekend marked the 25th anniversary of the release of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. As Kathryn has written, the original script for Ferris Bueller’s Day Off contained a bunch of conservative lines, including this gem: FERRIS: "My uncle went to Canada to protest the war, right? On the Fourth of July he was down with my aunt and he got drunk and told my Dad he felt guilty he didn’t fight in Viet Nam. So I said, “What’s the deal, Uncle Jeff? In wartime you want to be a pacifist and in peacetime you want to be a soldier. It...

The actor who played the principal in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" will serve three years of probation after pleading guilty to failing to update his sex offender registry info. Los Angeles District Attorney's spokeswoman Jane Robison says Jeffrey Jones entered the plea Tuesday to a felony charge of failing to update his registry information in June. Jones' registration was required because he pleaded no contest in 2003 to employing a 14-year-old boy to pose for sexually explicit photos. The 64-year-old actor is also required to perform 250 hours of community service.

If convicted on all 69 counts, including altering and stealing public records, computer fraud, burglary, identity theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy, Mr Khan could spend almost four decades in prison. Matthew Broderick stars in the '80s teen comedy about rebelling in style. Every kid has known a Ferris Bueller, that kid with the zen-like state of mind who seems impossibly mature, infuriatingly confident, never less than charming and usually gets what he wants. And this being the infamous decade of greed, that means conspicuous consumption. Our '80s Ferris is played with great style by a young Matthew Broderick who, tired of school drudgery, borrows a Ferrari and convinces some friends to accompany him to Chicago for the day. Naturally all this is to be accomplished without anyone noticing, without any...
