  • Can the Democrats stop the recall by using back door maneuver?

    08/23/2003 10:14:18 AM PDT · by birdsman · 8 replies · 108+ views
It's Oct 1, and Davis knows that he can't possibly beat the recall. He also sees in the polls that Bustamante will not be elected. He resigns, making Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante the new governor. Since the recall effort was to replace Davis, and Davis had been replaced, the courts decide to cancel the recall election. Bustamante serves out the rest of the term. Can this tactic work?

They are on the rise again.Chestertown, MD: an independent convenience store (don't know where they buy their gas) sold regular unleaded for $1.529/gallon as of Tuesday 8/19/03. As of today (Saturday 8/23) that same store charges $1.729/gallon.How much of this is attributable to the imminent Labor Day weekend, and how much is attributable to the leaky pipeline in AZ?

The markets are ar Highs for the year. The economy is in a recovery. Californication may be getting some common sense. The adults are in charge and the demoncraps are looking for an issue to run on. The deck of bad guys is being drawn down daily in Iraq and it is only a matter of time for Saddam and Osama. Sorry but I see the glass half full today.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) cried foul yesterday over a report that at least five of the urinals it installed in Muntinlupa City have been vandalized allegedly by city hall employees. "There should be total appreciation (by the local government units) of what we are doing. I mean, the urinals are not about politics. It is giving men the service that they need when they have to answer the call of nature," MMDA General Manager Robert Nacianceno told The STAR. According to Nacianceno, five of the eight urinals the MMDA installed on the East Service Road at the South...

Question for the Freepers: Article 1 Section 10 reads in part: "No state shall ... make anything but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debt" Can gold be used a legal tender to pay debts or obligations to the US or state governments by private citizens? Could I send a few ounces of gold to my county courthouse to pay property taxes? Or show up at the DMV counter with some gold to register my car? The Founders totally abhorred fiat currency and reluctantly allow reedemable currency. Jefferson talked about citizens being "filched" by treasury notes (not...

Sorry for the vanity, but are any other Texans experiencing brief flash power outages? We've had 4 in the last couple of hours here in DFW, 3 long enough to reset the clocks, and several minutes of slightly dimmed lights after the 2nd. In the last 3 years I can't recall any flash outages happening in this house except during storms, and there are none around Dallas this evening. Normally I wouldn't bring it up, but 4 is kinda strange...
  • Did Mussolini Go To Hell? (Vanity)

My first post, rather than a reply, so bear with me if the HTML falls apart. The question up for grabs is "Did Mussolini go to hell when he died?" While one's instinctive answer is probably "yes", the follow-up question, then, is "why?" Mussolini didn't really do a whole lot in WWII, except spout off and generally suck at combat. If you think that Mussolini went to hell because he allied himself with Hitler and Hirohito, then would Roosevelt and Churchill have gone to hell because they allied themselves with Stalin, who was himself evil incarnate? Just curious to hear...

I'm looking to convince a liberal friend that the Wellstone memorial earlier this year was, in fact, a political rally. Anyone with a file of the video of the memorial (which apparently ran on CSPAN, though I can't find it on their site) please FReepmail me. I need to convert this guy, who's blinded by ideology.

  • VANITY: Airmen on Navy ships?

    08/16/2003 5:13:29 AM PDT · by CheezyD · 76 replies · 639+ views
VANITY: My first vanity post... I'm looking for corroboration that members of the military in branches other than the Navy serve on Navy vessels. I was defending Bush's landing on the Abraham Lincoln on a political debate board and indicated that his doing so lifted the morale of sailors and airmen on the ship. A leftist whacko on the board is now claiming I cannot be a vet (which I am) because a "real veteran" wouldn't claim there would be airmen on an aircraft carrier. Any links would be appreciated. I've also attached the link to the debate forum if...
  • How does a Republican Governor in California help Bush in Calfornia in 2004?

Yes it will be best to have Gray Davis out of office and have a Republican as Governor, but can any explain how having a Republican as Governor helps President Bush's chances of winning Calfornia's 55 electoral votes? Bush lost California in 2000 by a wide margin. Plus, the majority of the California state House and Senate is Democrat as is a majority of the U. S. congressional delegation and both Senators.
