WASHINGTON, Sept 30 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump warned congressional Democrats on Tuesday that allowing the federal government to shut down at midnight would allow his administration to take "irreversible" actions including shutting down programs important to them.
"We can do things during the shutdown that are irreversible, that are bad for them and irreversible by them, like cutting vast numbers of people out, cutting things that they like, cutting programs that they like," Trump said in remarks to reporters from the White House Oval Office.
"You all know Russell Vought," Trump added, referring to the director of the Office of Management and Budget. "He's become very popular recently because he can trim the budget to a level that you couldn't do any other way." Trump did not specify the actions he might take, but he has raised the possibility recently of further downsizing the federal workforce.
At midnight, the United States will enter its 15th government shutdown since 1981, unless Republicans and Democrats in Congress agree on a deal to temporarily fund federal agencies with Wednesday's start of a new fiscal year.
No signs pointed to such an outcome, however.

Their base would lynch them.
BUY A BUNCH OF POPCORN AND A BUNCH OF SODAS LOL
I think the rats are counting on the courts to keep Trump from making these cuts. Pretty safe bet really at least in the short term.
Suspicious package at Utah State University. Evacuated Old Main.
“Their base would lynch them.”
either way, shutdown [with massive Fed firings] or no shutdown, the Dems will get lynched by their looney left base ...the Dems have been setup to lose-lose ...
“””I don’t see how Democrats can weasel out of this one. “”
Watching msnbc this afternoon. According to them the shutdown will mean we will all be dead by about noon tomorrow.
“ Following the evacuation, university and local law enforcement responded to the scene, located the “suspicious device” and deemed it wasn’t an explosive.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the bomb squad detonated the suspicious device,” said an alert from the university.
The alert added that Old Main is now “clear and safe.”
The courts will, of course, say you have to keep employees whose budgets have been removed, but it won’t stand.
No money. I guess they can volunteer.
Which has exactly what to do with this topic of discussion??
See post #4 on this thread.
As much as Trump forecast Winning, the flip side is forecasting losing for the dems
Except that post #4 has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. A “I was on the wrong thread when I posted” thing.
In 1980 there were approximately 60,000 federal employees. In 2024 there were about 3,000,000; 50 times as many. This is despite the rise of computers and enhanced communication methods.
We had enough government in 1980.
Shut it down. Do not negotiate any more.

Now someone calculatw # govt employees per population...
Now someone calculatw # govt employees per population...
If I got my stats right;
in 1980, population ~226.5M; there was one fed per 3375 civilians
in 2024, population ~347M; about one fed per 115 civilians.
Approximately 33x increase.
Your data for 1980 is WAY OFF! In 1980, the total U.S. federal civilian workforce across all three branches (executive, legislative, and judicial), excluding U.S. Postal Service workers and uniformed military personnel, was approximately **2,184,000** employees.
This figure breaks down as follows, based on Office of Personnel Management (OPM) historical data and related sources:
- **Executive Branch**: Approximately 2,161,000 civilian employees (as previously noted, excluding postal workers).
- **Legislative Branch**: Approximately 20,000 employees, including staff for Congress, the Government Accountability Office, and other legislative agencies.
- **Judicial Branch**: Approximately 3,000 employees, covering federal courts and related administrative staff.
These numbers are derived from OPM’s historical employment tables and estimates from federal budget documents for 1980. Exact figures for the smaller legislative and judicial branches vary slightly by source, but this is a close approximation based on available data.
