Pennsylvania state Sen. Doug Mastriano (R) conceded to Gov.-elect Josh Shapiro (D) on Sunday in the state’s gubernatorial race, five days after news outlets called the race against him. “Difficult to accept as the results are, there is no right course but to concede, which I do, and I look to the challenges ahead. Josh Shapiro will be our next Governor, and I ask everyone to give him the opportunity to lead and pray that he leads well,” Mastriano said in a statement.

The balance of political power in Pennsylvania has taken a left turn as the Republican-controlled state House lost at least 12 Republican seats in the Nov. 8 election and could lose more. Control of the chamber will remain undecided until at least next week because results in two races are too close to call. Democrat Mark Moffa, with 15,095 votes, has two votes more than Republican Joe Hogan’s 15,093 in District 142, Bucks County. Dave Ball, the Washington County GOP chairman who flipped his county from blue to red in voter registration, said at the time, “What the hell was he thinking?” When Mastriano surged comfortably ahead in the polls for the GOP gubernatorial nomination in the weeks before the May primary, I reported extensively on the Republicans' fears that Mastriano would drag the party down, including its Senate nominee; within days of that story, Trump endorsed Mastriano.

Pittsburgh police said six people were shot outside a funeral in the city's Brighton Heights neighborhood Friday. All six victims were reported to be in stable condition, police said. The shooting happened just after noon outside a funeral service for John James Hornezes, Jr., one of the three killed in a shooting on Pittsburgh's North Side on Oct. 15. That service was being held at the Destiny of Faith Church on Brighton Street. A source says someone was driving by the church in a vehicle and fired shots.
