Columbia University could face a substantial financial impact if the Trump administration’s proposed $100,000 fee on H-1B visas is implemented, as reported by the Columbia Spectator. The fee, announced in a White House proclamation on September 19, 2025, could cost the University up to $20 million annually, according to data from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). While current H-1B visa holders and renewals are not affected, new visa petitions filed after September 21 would be subject to the levy, placing additional strain on universities that rely heavily on international talent for research and teaching. New H-1B hires could...

Sen. Susan Collins is reportedly shopping around a potential off-ramp to the government shutdown that has paralyzed Washington, but the Maine Republican is not ready to give in on the primary demand by her Democratic colleagues. Collins has been circulating a “discussion draft” of a proposal that would include GOP pledges on a deal related to enhanced Obamacare tax credits, Punchbowl News reported. But Collins is insisting that any extension of the Affordable Care Act subsidies should be negotiated after Congress passes a funding resolution that would allow the government to reopen. Collins told reporters Monday that she has a...

A middle school gym teacher who described himself as a “pig” before being jailed for repeatedly raping a 15-year-old girl was killed by another inmate in his North Carolina cell Sunday. Ernest Nichols, 60, was convicted in 2011 and sentenced to 15 years behind bars for statutory rape. He was originally arrested on a staggering 27 charges, including a laundry list of sex offenses, WRAL reported. Nichols was found dead in his cell at the Greene Correctional Institution in Maury, NC, around 6:50 a.m., sending the prison into a lockdown. By Tuesday, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office served a murder...

Kamala Harris’s book tour continues to generate interesting soundbites, with the former vice president blasting President Donald Trump’s administration, saying “These motha****kas are crazy!” during one recent appearance. Harris shared her assessment while speaking at the “Day of Unreasonable Conversation” summit in Los Angeles on Monday. The ex-VP told the crowd at The Getty Center: VIDEO AT LINK............... We are living history right now, and you all storytellers are living this. You’re not passive observers, you know that. You’re living it, and I would ask you that all the emotions that we are feeling — give those emotions, give that...

In 1994, 17 Senate Republicans — including Mitch McConnell — lined up behind the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. They thought they were cutting a clever deal: In exchange for criminalizing anti-abortion protesters outside clinics, the law would also apply to anyone blocking access to churches. Like every “bipartisan compromise,” the results were anything but balanced. For decades, pro-life activists — grandmothers singing hymns, young people praying on sidewalks — faced years in prison for nonviolent protest. Meanwhile, not a single violent leftist or Islamist was prosecuted under the FACE Act for harassing or assaulting people of faith....

A hate-filled New Jersey man arrested before the annual Red Mass in Washington, DC, had at least 200 explosives in a tent outside — and a notebook declaring hatred for ICE and the Supreme Court justices who were due to arrive at the Catholic church, new court documents show. Louis Geri, 41, had pitched his tent on the steps of the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle — and allegedly told cops who approached him, “You might want to stay back and call the federales, I have explosives,” according to a filing obtained by the Washington Post. During attempted negotiations...

“Dogs are eating the bodies of the dead... is there anything worse than that?” says F, a 60-year-old resident of Gaza. This is not a metaphor – it’s a glimpse into the daily nightmare now unfolding in the Gaza Strip two years after the designated terror group Hamas’s unprecedented attack on Israel. After two years of war, residents of the Palestinian enclave, like F – who spoke to The Jerusalem Report on condition of anonymity out of fear of reprisals from Hamas – are still struggling to fully grasp what their lives have become after the militant group’s devastating decision...

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has broken with Donald Trump on the issue at the centre of the government shutdown. The US government shut down on Oct 1 after the Democrats and Republicans were unable to break the deadlock to pass a spending bill. Democrats have demanded that tax credits introduced in 2021 to make health insurance more affordable for millions of Americans be extended, arguing that their expiration would double what low-and middle-income people who purchase health insurance through the Affordable Care Act pay on their premiums next year. The Maga firebrand said she was “absolutely disgusted” that health insurance...

We can’t be the only Americans fed up with seeing video after video of antifa-types interfering with federal law enforcement, of mobs forming around ICE officers making arrests, of “protesters” confronting men and women who are just doing their jobs. The Democrats could rein them in, but they won’t, and that makes them co-conspirators in a slow-motion rebellion that is picking up speed. Of the many acts of violence against federal officers, the worst so far is the incident in Chicago in which “officers were rammed by vehicles and boxed in by 10 cars.” It was clearly planned, maybe not...

A batch of desperate pleas for help repeatedly drew cops to a Staten Island horror house in the years before twisted teen Damien Hurstel allegedly decapitated his mom’s boyfriend inside the abode, The Post has learned. The gorily dismembered beau — 45-year-old city Department of Sanitation worker Anthony Casalaspro — had been listed as the alleged perpetrator in at least five domestic violence-related 911 calls from the West Brighton home starting in 2021, sources revealed. In the most recent report in 2023, sources said Casalaspro allegedly drunkenly attacked Hurstel before slapping the teen’s mom.

Republican senators are increasingly uneasy about President Trump’s standoff with Democratic governors over deploying National Guard troops from other states to Portland, Ore., and Chicago. The conflict between federal and state authorities escalated dramatically over the weekend when Trump moved to send National Guard soldiers to Oregon and Illinois despite opposition from their respective governors, Tina Kotek and JB Pritzker. Trump’s use of military forces was all the more controversial because a Trump-appointed federal judge for the District of Oregon ruled Saturday that the administration could not federalize Oregon’s National Guard to support Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in...

You probably can’t tell whether this is the alien itself or the ship it landed in. Possibly both at the same time. Hard to distinguish the tentacles from the portholes or the eye-sockets, while the salmon-pink folds and creases have a certain gynecologiocal feeling. In any case, this beast landed in Xalapa, capital of Veracruz state, Mexico. It is called Casa de los Milagros or House of Miracles by architect Danilo Veras Godoy and is a private residence, not an intergalactic freight transport vehicle / organism. As a technical matter, this is an extreme case of what you get when...

In 2020, California imported about 25% of its demand for electricity from Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Arizona due to the capacity limitations of the three utilities that serve the State (Pacific Gas and Electric, Southern California Edison, and San Diego Gas and Electric). These capacity limitations resulted from the closure of fossil fuel plants and environmental restrictions imposed by regulatory authorities in California to meet climate change standards. New England, New Jersey, and New York combined imported about 30% of their demand from either neighboring states or Canada. Many utilities in PJM and MISO import electricity from TVA and the...

The Trump administration has ordered FBI employees in Washington, DC, and New York to immediately search their workstations and digital media for any records pertaining to the disappearance of Amelia Earhart, two law enforcement sources told CNN. Employees in the FBI’s DC and New York field offices received a highly unusual message from their leadership flagged with high importance late Tuesday telling them: “Per a priority request from the Executive Office of the President of the United States, please search any areas where papers or physical media records may be stored, to include both open or closed cases, for records...

A dedicated dog stubbornly refused to follow officers who tried to lead him back home — until they followed him to his owner’s missing elderly mother who collapsed during a late-night walk. A deputy with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Sept. 25 reporting a missing senior in Destin, Fla. One frantic man was waiting on his doorstep as he explained that his 86-year-old wife hadn’t returned from a walk with their adult child’s dog, according to body camera footage. “She just takes that dog, but she never takes more than 10 or 15 minutes. It’s...
