North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein on Friday signed “Iryna’s Law,” which increases checks on criminals getting out on bail and prohibits cashless bail for some violent crimes and most repeat offenders following the stabbing death of a Ukrainian refugee on a Charlotte light-rail train in August. Stein, a Democrat, has said he doesn’t like every part of the bill that was passed by the Republican-controlled state Legislature, which also looks to restart executions in North Carolina, but he signed it because it “alerts the judiciary to take a special look at people who may pose unusual risks of violence before...

A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice over an allegation linked to a BBC Panorama investigation. The officer is a sergeant based at Charing Cross police station and was arrested in relation to an incident that took place on Thursday, a statement from the Met said. They have since been bailed and suspended from duty. “This is devastating. I can’t express it in words,” said one Indian technology professional in Silicon Valley to HT as news of US President Donald Trump’s H1-B visa fee hike spread on Saturday. “I’ve invested a lot of time here in America. I’m staying positive right now but there are times when it’s hard,” adds another Indian professional on an Optional Practical Training (OPT) visa, who was hoping to secure an H1B sponsorship and stay on in America after completing a master’s degree. A pervasive mood of fear and uncertainty looms large among many in the Indian diaspora, particularly young...

I must admit that, despite having been raised in a secular home and limiting my Jewish observance to attending services when I can, I do have one pretty strong theory about the Judeo-Christian faith: The rules come from God, and we follow them. It’s a one-way street. And while some rules are no longer observed (e.g., we don’t kill witches and, outside of Muslim countries, no one’s stoning homosexuals to death), we don’t get to go around telling God to do a complete U-turn on morals. However, an article in The Nation, a hard-left publication, earnestly explains how queer Catholics...

This week, the Democrat minority in the US Senate refused to vote for the continuing resolution that was needed to keep the federal government funded while the negotiations for the next budget are underway. The resolution was passed by the House, but couldn't make it past the Senate's filibuster rules. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass) explained "Republicans want to discontinue the special pandemic increase in the spending for medicaid that has been part of the budget since 2021. Democrats want to continue this level of spending. Until Republicans do what we demand we will oppose the funding required to keep the...

Roughly 42% of younger working Americans — spanning Gen Z, millennials and Gen X — report having no spare savings after covering their basic living expenses, according to the analysis, which surveyed about 3,600 workers and 1,500 retirees. Among those just getting by, about three-quarters said they are struggling to save for retirement, the survey found. The share of U.S. workers in this precarious financial position has grown significantly since 1997, when 31% lived paycheck to paycheck, according to Goldman. The investment bank projects that figure could climb to well over half of Americans by 2033 as essentials like housing...

Conservative law professor William Jacobson of Cornell University, publisher of the Legal Insurrection blog, appeared on the Jesse Kelly show this week and outlined an upcoming Supreme Court case for Trump that he describes as ‘very high stakes.’ The case has to do with the Trump tariffs, and depending on how the court rules, it could have a significant effect on Trump’s economic policy. Jacobson suggests that it could be a very close call. Transcript via Legal Insurrection: Kelly (00:05): The Supreme Court is about to begin another term. I don’t understand these terms. I don’t understand what they’re doing...

President Donald Trump has unleashed a warning to Democrats who opposed a resolution in the U.S. Senate that would have kept the government funded for another few weeks. The video is about the "Reaper" who is coming, presumably for Democrat spending and funding programs.Already, the White House has cut various green ideology funding programs, and blocked other grants to leftist cities and states. It's happening because government funding from Congress expired earlier this week.

What we know about the case * A judge sentenced Sean “Diddy” Combs to 50 months in prison, fined him $500,000 and ordered five years of supervised release. * Before he was sentenced, Combs addressed the judge, begging for mercy and apologizing for "sick" actions. * Prosecutors had pushed for more than 11 years, while the defense sought 14 months — which would have equaled time served. Since Combs has been in custody since September 2024, he will receive credit for over a year already served. * A jury acquitted Combs of racketeering and sex trafficking charges on July 2,...

Churches across the West are twisting themselves into shapes no apostle would recognize — bending like pretzels to please secular society. They update doctrines, rewrite homilies, and water down long-held beliefs, all in hopes of attracting people who rarely show up anyway. And now the Church of England has chosen its new leader: Dame Sarah Mullally, hailed as a “theological liberal” and celebrated for her progressive stances. But it raises a fair question: does the Archbishop believe in the Christianity she is meant to lead, or only in a softened imitation of it? Mullally, the first female Archbishop of Canterbury...

The Yom Kippur killer was on bail for alleged rape before his synagogue attack, it emerged last night. Jihad Al-Shamie, 35, was under investigation by Greater Manchester Police over a sexual attack carried out this year and was due to appear in court. It is believed unemployed Al-Shamie was also facing mounting debts and the collapse of his marriage, with his wife leaving the family home with their one-year-old son six months ago. Residents said he was a loner who spent his days in pyjamas, bulking up by weightlifting in his garden and annoying neighbours by parking his battered Kia...

The vile attack on a Manchester synagogue on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar should be a blaring wake-up call to the United Kingdom that Islamist extremism is out of hand. Antizionists screaming “Globalize the Intifada!” have spent the last two years insisting that their fervid calls for the elimination of Israel have nothing to do with antisemitism — indeed, that it’s offensive to suggest otherwise. Their protests, you see, are motivated solely by humanitarian concerns. But if any bright line ever divided principled opposition to the war in Gaza from outright hatred of Jews, the “Free Free Palestine”...

Mobs gathered not just in Whitehall but also in London railway stations and in Leeds, Manchester, Bristol, Bournemouth and elsewhereAs so often, the Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis hit the nail on the head over yesterday’s terror attack in Manchester. It was, he said, the result of “a tidal wave of Jew hated.” Jews have spent the past two years highlighting the danger posed by the authorities’ refusal to take more than perfunctory action against the regular hate marches and gatherings. We have warned what was coming – and yesterday it came. It will, I dread to write, not be the...

The prime minister has called for protesters to “respect the grief of British Jews this week” after the Manchester synagogue attack. Ahead of a planned demonstration against the ban on Palestine Action this Saturday, Keir Starmer wrote in the Jewish Chronicle that activists should recognise this is a time of mourning. “Peaceful protest is a cornerstone of our democracy – and there is justified concern about the suffering in Gaza – but a minority have used these protests as a pretext for stoking antisemitic tropes,” he wrote. “I urge anyone thinking about protesting this weekend to recognise and respect the...
