Explanation: A new visitor from the outer Solar System, comet C/2025 R2 (SWAN) also known as SWAN25B was only discovered late last week, on September 11. That's just a day before the comet reached perihelion, its closest approach to the Sun. First spotted by Vladimir Bezugly in images from the SWAN instrument on the sun-staring SOHO spacecraft, the comet was surprisingly bright but understandably difficult to see against the Sun's glare. Still close to the Sun on the sky, the greenish coma and tail of C/2025 R2 (SWAN) are captured in this telescopic snapshot from September 17. Spica, alpha star...

Author’s note: The article for this week was first posted Monday, September 20, 2010. My reason for reposting it this week might seem rather unusual–perhaps even odd. Let me explain. Upon awakening early the other day, as is my usual way, the first moments of clarity came to me out of nowhere and wouldn’t leave. The thought was that I had been saved at the age of six. Since I was born in 1942, that made the year I was born again 1948. The thought wouldn’t leave. I was “born again” the same year–1948—Israel was “reborn” as a nation into...

If you can't resist the urge to check your phone over and over, even if you're out with friends, Meta has a solution: check your glasses instead...Meta's Reality Labs division burns cash at an alarming rate, which has concerned investors over the years...Meta has had its fair share of flops, like the entire promise of its social metaverse...But with the Meta Ray-Ban Display, Meta has created a remarkable piece of technology, unlike any other consumer-facing product on the market -- we have yet to test it ourselves, so we can't quite say just how groundbreaking this really is, but it...

Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., donned a "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" hat during an interview with CNN on Thursday, after the late-night host's show was pulled. "Congressman, I see you are wearing a hat. What does that hat say?" CNN host John Berman asked the lawmaker, who responded with, "You're damn right I am, John." Disney said Wednesday it was pulling late-night host Jimmy Kimmel's program after the liberal comedian's remarks about the death of Charlie Kirk. "It should shake every American that the president of the United States is out there firing comedians who make fun of him. That is not...

Could there be a World Cup without Spain? If Israel participates, it could be a possibility. That’s what has been implied by the words of the spokesperson for the Socialist Group in Congress, Patxi López, who stated that “at the appropriate time” the possibility of Spain not attending the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be considered if Israel participates. The position of the Spanish government comes amid the ongoing debate about Israel’s participation in international sporting competitions, a debate that has resurfaced strongly in Spain in recent days. During a press conference in Congress, López urged sports organizations to “exclude” Israel...

Sadly, there are not too many world leaders in the running for the title of most stalwart friend of Israel. U.S. President Donald Trump has to be near the top of that short list for the many pro-Israel actions he's taken while in the Oval Office. He recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in 2017 and moved the U.S. Embassy there after failed promises from previous presidents to do so. In 2020, he brokered the Abraham Accords, which accomplished what so much of the world thought was impossible: the normalization of relations between Israel and several Arab states. And,...

Andrew Cuomo for their party's nomination. Cuomo is still running for mayor, but...

Nvidia (NVDA.O), said on Thursday it would invest $5 billion in Intel (INTC.O), throwing its heft behind the struggling U.S. chipmaker just weeks after the White House engineered an extraordinary deal for the federal government to take a massive stake in the company. Nvidia's support offers Intel a new chance after years of turnaround efforts failed to pay off, and triggered a 23% jump in the U.S. chip manufacturer's shares. The stake will make Nvidia one of Intel's largest shareholders, giving it roughly 4% of the company after new shares are issued

A federal judge on Thursday blocked the Trump Administration from deporting Guatemalan children in HHS custody to their home country. US District Judge Timothy Kelly, a Trump appointee, said Trump’s claim he is reunifying the migrant children with their parents “crumbled like a house of cards.” The government of Guatemala has now formally requested that these children be returned home. The children, who do not have a parent in the US, were in the care of the Health and Human Services Department. The Trump Administration worked with the Guatemalan government to devise a plan to safely return the children to...

[Catholic Caucus] Leo publicly doubts Catholic teaching on sexual morality and the immutability of dogmaLeo's idea that 'attitudes' must be changed before doctrine can sheds new light on the recent events in the Vatican. In his first extended interview, Leo XIV fell short of affirming the immutability of the Church’s teaching on sexual morality, and strongly implied that changes could be possible in the future.Although more muted, he also implied that he could “change the Church’s teaching” on women’s ordination. When discussing his approach to “LGBTQ+” issues with Elise Ann Allen of Crux Now, Leo XIV struck an uncertain note, suggesting...

He retired late and has a mortgage not set to be paid off until just after his 100th birthday. Some might say that's not the best of financial planning. And as he struggles to find his post-presidential feet there seems little prospect that Joe Biden, 82, will get any help from some of his Democratic friends. 'There isn't a whole lot of goodwill for the former president in some key corridors of power, and that stems from the fact that he never should have tried to mount a reelection,' one Democratic insider told the Daily Mail. 'A lot of us...

LOS ANGELES -- Back in Spring Training, when he signed a contract to return to the big leagues for his 18th season, Clayton Kershaw reiterated his desire to retire as a Dodger. Retirement had crossed the veteran left-hander's mind leading into this year, but after losing much of the prior season to injury, he wanted to go out on his own terms. And there was only one team with whom he wanted to do it.

After persistent Democrats obstruction to all Trump nominees using old Senate rules, Thune got the Senate rules CHANGED today to allow confirmation of Trump's nominees in batches. Today alone, 48 Trump nominees will be confirmed in a big batch. Expect more batch confirmations in coming weeks and months. Expect more crying and gnashing of teeth from the crazy Schume who's attempt to trade confirmations for money for his crazy projects come crashing down.

Kimmel lied to his audience when he blamed the murder on the ‘MAGA gang,’ violating FCC regulations that prohibit news distortion or a hoax. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has done the impossible: He got ABC to consider the tone of its often offensively partisan programming and make a change. Disney-owned ABC abruptly pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! from its broadcast lineup late Wednesday, hopefully ending Kimmel’s ugly career. The move is more likely in response to Carr’s threat of consequences for ABC, issued on The Benny Show podcast with Benny Johnson, than Kimmel’s unfunny, untrue monologue insulting the conservative movement while it...

Donald Trump has been speaking to reporters on his flight home on Air Force One, and says he asked that Sir Sadiq Khan not be invited to the state banquet last night. "I didn't want him there," he says. "I asked that he not be there. "I think the mayor of London Khan is among the worst mayors in the world, and we have some bad ones..." Donald Trump's comments on Sir Sadiq Khan mark the latest spat in a long-running feud between the pair going back nearly a decade. On the eve of the president's state visit, Khan wrote...

The ghost of the 2024 election continues to haunt Kamala Harris as she revisits her ill-fated decision to put Tim Walz on the ticket. Harris writes in her new memoir that the Minnesota governor was not her “first choice” for vice president, despite the enthusiasm she showed Walz in the days after he was suddenly announced. Many observers speculated that the Democrats’ No. 2 slot became a contest between Walz and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, who Harris aides feared would provoke a backlash among pro-Palestinian progressive activists because he is Jewish. But in “107 Days,” the former vice president writes...

The US President, who has been in the UK for a historic second state visit, arrived at London Stansted 20 minutes behind schedule. The helicopter made its emergency landing at Luton Airport - where the President and First Lady were transferred onto a second 'support' chopper. The couple then boarded Air Force One...
