Chinese President Xi Jinping will send a high-level envoy in his place to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's Jan. 20 inauguration, the Financial Times reported on Thursday. Beijing has told Trump’s transition team that the official would attend instead of Xi, whom Trump had invited to attend, the report said, citing several people familiar with the situation. It said the envoy would also hold talks with Trump's team. Xi could send Han Zheng, a vice president who sometimes stands in for him in ceremonial roles, while another option was Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the FT reported, citing its sources. The paper...

On Thursday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “All In,” Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) defended his vote against the Laken Riley Act by stating that “people are going to be targeted because they’re brown.” Host Chris Hayes asked, “[T]here’s a sort of a test of this happening now with this piece of legislation that would essentially make larger the category of immigrants who are here undocumented without status who can be put into the deportation queue if arrested, not convicted, for a set of category of crimes. So, it enlargens that. It also, in a more — well, a part that a lot...

On Thursday night, California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara issued a mandatory one-year moratorium, protecting homeowners’ insurance coverage in areas affected by the Palisades and Eaton fires. The moratorium will prohibit insurance companies from enacting non-renewals and cancellations until Jan. 7, 2026. In a statement, Lara said this rule applies to all homeowners within the perimeters or adjoining ZIP codes of the two fires in Los Angeles County, regardless of whether they suffered a loss.

The scale of support on college campuses for militant antisemitism and even for Hamas barbarism has alarmed most Americans, but there’s something else here that ought to trouble us, too: a startling ignorance of the most basic facts of Middle Eastern history. These are college students being educated on renowned campuses—yet they know virtually nothing about the matter they are protesting. How can that be? Let’s begin by asking what a serious education about the conflict in the Middle East would look like. At a minimum, we would expect students to have a basic grasp of the case made by...

In a genome-wide association study of 6,169 Latin American individuals, an international team of scientists identified 32 gene regions (loci) that influenced facial features such as nose, lip, jaw, and brow shape, nine of which were entirely new discoveries while the others validated genes with prior limited evidence; one of these genes appears to have been inherited from Denisovans, an extinct sister group of Neanderthals.Dr. Kaustubh Adhikari, a scientist at University College London and the Open University, and colleagues... compared genetic information from the participants with characteristics of their face shape, quantified with 59 measurements (distances, angles and ratios between...

The past few years have made cynics of a great many of us. Sometimes hearts have to harden a bit for some of us to make it through another day. After all that’s transpired, I often think to myself, “Nothing could shock me anymore.” Sadly, that has proven not to be the case. Sometimes ignorance is blended with sheer, mind-bending depravity. The number of people actually celebrating the torture and slaughter of over a thousand innocent Jewish folks in Israel on Oct. 7, 2023 — and openly supporting Hamas — was depressing enough. But the recent outcry in Britain among...

The Los Angeles wildfires are on track to be among the costliest in US history, with losses already expected to exceed $135bn (£109.7bn). In a preliminary estimate, private forecaster Accuweather said it expected losses of between $135bn-$150bn as the blazes rip through an area that is home to some of the most expensive property in the US. The insurance industry is also bracing for a major hit, with analysts from firms such as Morningstar and JP Morgan forecasting insured losses of more than $8bn.

Major scientific organizations’ statements on “climate change” and the conclusions therein form the basis of much of the scientific foundation for governmental, scientific, media, and public concerns on the use of fossil fuels. Trillions of public and private dollars are currently being spent on alternative fuels to “save the planet” from the alleged harm of increasing CO2, a gas which is vital for life on earth. If the evaluations of these societies are erroneous, these measures could impoverish much of the world, to say nothing of wasting trillions. Economic damage and social unrest are already evident in some countries, including...

If the politics in California are eventually "right", (not in a political sense but in what is "correct and good"), the burnt out areas of LA, in time, can become the envy of the world. Utopia could be only a few years away, by 2028 for sure, if you couple a strong leader, like Trump, who easily sees the value of developing prime real estate, matched with a visionary like Elon Musk, who already is making pre-frabricated smart homes. From the ashes a phoenix, will rise, a 15 minute city that harbors all the best that mankind can believe and...

Russia has expressed support for U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's willingness to resolve issues through dialogue, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. He reaffirmed Russian President Vladimir Putin's readiness to engage in talks with Trump, News.Az reports, citing Reuters. -snip- Peskov said Putin had repeatedly stated his willingness to hold talks with international leaders, including Trump. "We see that Mr. Trump also declares his readiness to resolve problems through dialogue, we welcome this." Peskov...

'DEI' is 'DIE' from the scorched rubble of the California fire zone . Is there a person on the planet that still believes that DEI is a good thing? If there is, consider that person mentally or informationally handicapped. While there are countless examples of why putting people in jobs for which competence, intelligence and courage under fire is the right thing to do, to say the least, hiring or appointing people on the basis of their minority/ethnic status, gender, and/or gender orientation, is downright dangerous. No crisis has proven this true more blatantly than the California wildfires. California has...

Leftist ice cream company Ben and Jerry's is working to organize a direct action "against fascism" to oppose President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration. The "People's March" will take place on January 18 in Washington, DC, as well as other locations across the country. The ice cream shop sent a newsletter encouraging customers to protest and "dissent." "Power to the people! On January 18, we're joining the People's March in Washington, DC (and beyond!) to send an urgent message to the incoming administration: You work for the people, and we're here to hold you accountable," Ben and Jerry's wrote. "Together, we will...

“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil” (Matthew 4:1). Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness did not catch His Father by surprise. The Son was specifically “led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” The word translated “tempted” is from a morally neutral term that means “to test.” But sometimes, as here, the context clearly indicates that the testing was aimed at enticing one to do evil. That the devil was going to present certain temptations to Jesus thus justifies rendering the word “tempted”—it gives...
