Notre Dame is playing for a national title for the first time in 12 seasons.
Mitch Jeter made a 41-yard field goal with seven seconds left to give the Fighting Irish a 27-24 win over Penn State in the Orange Bowl on Thursday night. The Irish will play the winner of Friday's Cotton Bowl featuring Ohio State vs. Texas.
The CFP national title game will take place Jan. 20 in Atlanta.

Go Irish!
Very impressive how deep Notre Dame is. They take a beating and keep on ticking.
And James Franklin’s seat stays hot. Beating SMU and Boise State won’t impress his critics.
I had someone tell me almost that exact sentiment before the game when he predicted Notre Dame would win. He also said Drew Allar is overrated. But despite the lack of competition this season, I though Penn State hung in there with ND quite well. In fact if it wasn’t for Allars int, they’d have won.
Still the best college fight song no matter what Michigan says...
Agreed. Go Irish!!
I like the QB Leonard. Not afraid to run with the ball on designed runs. That comes in handy on 3rd downs-another weapon. He won’t do it very often in the pros but I’m looking forward to him becoming one. My guess is he’s a 4th rounder.
Not a big Notre Dame fan but I lover their coach Marcus Freeman.
Can I brag? My youngest daughter is a freshman at Notre Dame… so, we’re pretty stoked right now.
He needs better protection from his offensive line
Franklin should’ve been replaced some years ago.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to fire him.
Penn State spend >$63 million annually on its football program.
They could pay up for a better coach.
If ND wins next week, I am declaring Northern Illinois co-champions.
As well. Mostly because I live here but also because in the last week alone, Freeman beat more AP Top-5 teams than Kelly did in his entire time in South Bend.
Allar choked BIGLY!!
Why wouldn’t he have thrown a flare to the outside as Warren was moving to the sidelines, where NO ONE except Warren could have caught the ball. But no, goes in the middle, almost seemingly passing it DIRECTLY to the ND def. back?
CHOKE city! The shame of it was, he was bad all night!
He cost them the game.
Franklin looks pretty white for a black guy.
And Freeman is half-Korean.
Lenord is not NFL material. He is a superb competitor, but he lacks the physical skills of an NFL quarterback.
I was rooting for Penn State as I believe OSU will win tonight and it would have been an all-Big 10 final. I’m so tired of all the SEC-ACC blather...
