Today’s post focuses not on the debate’s issue, but on the character of the debate itself — and how this is MAGA’s first major challenge from the deep-state. Then we’ll discuss ways to fight back and hold recent gains rather than pop! like the Tea Party bubble. Corporate media was beside itself. Rolling Stone ran its giddy story late yesterday afternoon under the headline, “Musk, Ramaswamy Face MAGA...

Daily Readings from the USCCBOn the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they put him.” So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. John 20:1–3It’s interesting that Saint John refers to himself as the disciple “whom Jesus loved.” Of course, Jesus loved all people. He loved all of the disciples. But in John’s Gospel, this unique title of the beloved disciple is given...

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal by a Jess Bravin reported that attorneys general of many blue states are not going to give up quietly when Donald Trump, as president, begins to honor his election promises, such as the mass deportation of illegals. “A host of blue states are staffing up and building out legal battle plans for Trump’s return trip to the White House.”When Donald Trump will be sending ICE agents to blue sanctuary states to solicit help from local sheriffs and other police forces, the only response he may get is “civil and criminal litigation” from...

For the better part of a century, Cuba has been under the control of communists and their ideologies, and the previously inconceivable has finally happened—they’ve run out of sugar. Like John Hinderaker at Powerline quipped, “This is like Libya running out of sand.”Or…like Alabama running out of cotton.Like Costa Rica running out of pineapples.Like Russia running out of vodka.Like Saudi Arabia running out of oil.Like China running out of rice.Like the Midwest running out of corn.Like Afghanistan running out of opium. How is this even possible? Do you really even have to do anything to get a tropical crop to grow...

As usual, President Trump has a way of talking about things and walking a few steps ahead of us. Enter Panama and all the talk about Canada. In this case, the issue is China in Panama is a problem, to say the least, given the commercial and military traffic that goes through there.Honestly, it's about time that we start pushing back on the role of China. According to Cristina Guevara, a Latin America policy analyst and writer, the time is now. This is how she put it:Chinese investments, such as the $3.5 billion Chancay Port project, address concrete needs in...

Spy chiefs “silenced” researchers in the Defense Department and FBI who discovered strong evidence that COVID-19 most likely leaked from a Chinese lab, The Post has learned. As a result, their findings were kept out of an August 2021 report to President Biden on the origins of the global pandemic. After the pandemic erupted in Wuhan, China, three scientists from the Defense Intelligence Agency began trying to figure out exactly where it came from — whether SARS-CoV-2 jumped from bats into humans, or whether the virus was man-made and came from a lab accident. The “zoonotic origin” theory was backed...

The dam, which will be located in the lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo river, could generate three times more energy than the Three Gorges Dam, currently the world's largest hydropower plant. ... The Three Gorges hydropower dam required the resettlement of 1.4 million people. Reports indicate that the colossal development would require at least four 20km-long tunnels to be drilled through the Namcha Barwa mountain, diverting the flow of the Yarlung Tsangpo, Tibet's longest river. ... Shortly after China announced its plans for the Yarlung Tsangpo dam project in 2020, a senior Indian government official told Reuters that India's...

The Morrison Hotel, the famous backdrop for The Doors’ 1970 album named after it, was destroyed by a huge fire Thursday while being occupied by dozens of homeless squatters. Almost 100 firefighters worked for at least two hours from 11 a.m. to control the fire at the downtown Los Angeles hotel best known for being on the cover of the legendary rock album. The blaze destroyed the roof of the building now red-tagged as being unlivable. Henry Diltz, the photographer who shot the album cover, said he was “very sad” to see the landmark so badly damaged, telling CBS News...

We are indebted to Brig.-Gen. GORDON for a copy of the Richmond Whig of Dec. 23. We have also received Richmond papers of the 24th. They contain the following interesting intelligence: From the Richmond Sentinel, Dec. 24. GRANT having, at the commencement of his campaign, tried the effect of concentration and failed, is now operating by means of raids in several directions at the same time. One has just come to grief in the Valley and a second one at Gordonsville, another in Alabama, and also one in southwestern Virginia. We learn from the Petersburgh Express that a raiding column,...

Wisconsin Senate member-elect Dora Drake (D) is pushing for a red flag law in the wake of the December 16, 2024, Madison Christian school shooting. Drake has not explained how a red flag law would prevent a 15-year-old girl–the age and gender of the alleged Madison shooter–from carrying out an attack since such an individual is already too young to legally buy a firearm. Moreover, Drake did not address the fact that California has a red-flag law yet the Golden State led the nation in “active shooter incidents” in 2021 and 2023. Instead, Drake focused on Republicans’ opposition to red...

Late-night hosts relentlessly made Donald Trump the focus of nearly all of their jokes before the presidential election, but failed to sway the voting, as revealed by a new study. A shocking 98 percent of the jokes made by Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers and Saturday Night Live in the lead up to Election Day made Trump the butt of the joke, according to media watchdog group Media Research Center. As many as 1,428 of the 1,463 political jokes on these shows - from September 3 through October 25 - were targeted at Trump, the study found....

In November 1948, President Harry S. Truman and his family were forced to vacate the White House regarding concerns over the building’s structural integrity. Truman had moved into the White House after taking office in 1945, but a series of incidents — including one in which the leg of his daughter’s piano fell through the floor — affirmed that the residence required extensive renovations. A dissatisfied Truman called repairs from Theodore Roosevelt’s administration a “botch job.” Analysts also suggested that the building deteriorated during Franklin D. Roosevelt’s time in office, as the Great Depression and World War II forced FDR...

Hoover Institution Senior Fellow Victor Davis Hanson said Thursday on his podcast that he believes all of President Joe Biden’s family members will be next in line to receive pardons. Since Biden’s announcement on Dec. 1 that he would pardon his son Hunter Biden of his criminal charges, the president has faced pushback over the decision, after adamantly telling the press he would not do so. On “The Victor Davis Hanson Show,” Hanson said he believes Biden has been pardoning people based on what benefits the family and what provokes public outrage. “It works like this. He just said, ‘I’m...

Certain 2024 election results in California took many by surprise. The Golden State's residents, for example, rejected another term for progressive Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón, backed by billionaire George Soros. They also overwhelmingly voted — at more than 70% — in favor of Proposition 36, the Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act, which seeks to undo portions of Proposition 47 from 2014 by increasing penalties for some crimes. The proposition, which took effect Dec. 18, will allow felony charges to be filed against those possessing certain drugs and those who commit thefts under $950. Additionally, people...

Earlier this year, a graduate student in history at Georgetown named Vishnu Raghavan came upon the 2021 book Kwame Nkrumah: Visions of Liberation by Smith College history chair Jeffrey Ahlman. The book praises the post-colonial leader of Ghana while skating breezily over the tyranny and poverty that he unleashed until being deposed in 1966. Raghavan submitted a deeply researched critique of the book to the Georgetown history department’s journal, The Footnote. Ahlman, he charged, had ignored the important contributions of British colonialism to creating the free and prosperous society that Nkrumah inherited and had blamed colonialism for ills that were...
