While the West must support Israel to achieve a decisive victory in Gaza, this is only one small piece of a much broader war. There are two prevailing interpretations of the recent Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea. The first interpretation is that these are proxy attacks, sponsored by Iran, aimed at undermining freedom of the seas and the American-led international rules-based order. By disrupting shipping and trade flows, Iran gets to extract a price from the West for supporting Israel against Hamas and Islamic Jihad, their proxies in Gaza. Certainly the relevant weapons are being provided by...

John Castro, a Texas man who fought to keep former President Trump off the ballot, has been arrested on federal tax charges. “John Anthony Castro was indicted last week on 33 counts of aiding the preparation of false tax returns,” noted The Hill. “Prosecutors claim he ran a virtual tax preparation business that provided customers with tax returns beyond what they were actually owed, defrauding the government.” In court documents, prosecutors allege Castro would “promise a significantly higher refund than taxpayers could receive from other preparers and on many occasions, offered to split the additional refund with taxpayers.”

Civil Defence Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin told a defence conference "there could be war in Sweden". His message was then backed up by military commander-in-chief Gen Micael Byden, who said all Swedes should prepare mentally for the possibility. However, opposition politicians have objected to the tone of the warnings. Ex-prime minister Magdalena Andersson told Swedish TV that while the security situation was serious, "it is not as if war is just outside the door." Children's rights organisation Bris said that its national helpline did not usually receive calls about the possibility of war. But this week, it had seen an increase...

The GOP’s Senate leadership is preparing to betray their voters on President Joe Biden’s migration flood, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), told Fox News on Tuesday. The still-secret draft deal “is a sellout — it’s going to continue to allow illegal immigration ” because Democrats are threatening Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) with an aid cut-off for Ukraine, Paul said before adding:It’s saying, “Oh, we’ll let 5,000 people come illegally a day, and then after that, we might try to stop the next 5,000 that day.” It’s completely a sellout. But it’s because people like Senator [Mitch] McConnell care more about Ukraine than anything...

These Fani Willis allegations are getting crazier by the day. By now, I'm sure you've read Athena Thorne's intrepid report on the accusations that Willis hired an attorney with whom she is supposedly carrying on an extramarital affair as a special prosecutor in the Trump RICO case, despite his lack of qualifications with that type of litigation. The special prosecutor, Nathan Wade, also allegedly met with White House representatives about the case. I penned a follow-up piece about another Willis hire, Pallavi Bailey, who serves as the DA's spokeswoman. She is married to Charlie Bailey, who ran for lieutenant governor...

The NFL playoffs start this coming weekend and there’s one thing fans of all teams can agree on—it stinks that the NFL and NBC will be airing an AFC playoff game exclusively on Peacock. That’s right, if you want to watch the Kansas City Chiefs play the Miami Dolphins, you’ll have to subscribe to Peacock to see the game. The NFL has been getting into the streaming business the past few years, but this is the first time fans will have to pay extra to see a playoff game. And there’s a reason for that—money. Here’s how much NBC is...

The Left is creating historic, anti-democratic precedents that will someday boomerang should Republicans win the November election and follow the new Democrat model of extra-legal politics. When faced with the possible return of President Donald Trump, the current agenda of the Democratic Party is summed up simply as “We had to destroy democracy to save it.” The effort shares a common theme: any means necessary are justified to prevent the people from choosing their own president, given the fear that a majority might vote to elect Donald Trump. Sometimes the anti-democratic paranoia has been outsourced to state and local officials...

SHANGHAI -- China's vehicle sales accelerated 12% to record 30.09 million units in 2023, an industry group said Thursday, beating a 3% growth target set earlier. Higher global demand, especially for Chinese electric vehicles, and fierce competition among automakers who enticed buyers with discounts and new models fueled the rise. Recovering appetite for commercial vehicles was another factor. "With the EV market maintaining a rapid growth, it has become an important force in leading the transformation of the global automotive industry," said Chen Shihua, a China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) spokesperson. With 30.09 million units sold in 2023, China...

oe Biden is facing an uphill reelection battle. He is desperate, and he should be. The world is an uglier and an uglier place under Biden. Nearly no one believes the country is moving in the right direction. Americans are deeply dissatisfied with the economy; America is experiencing an unprecedented illegal immigration crisis; and the world seems to be on fire, from the Middle East to Ukraine. Meanwhile, Biden himself is clearly ailing; as comedian Shane Gillis recently said, “My favorite thing about Biden is anytime Biden finishes a speech, he transforms into a Roomba.” This is clearly true. In...

South Africa on Thursday accused Israel of breaching the UN Genocide Convention, arguing that even the deadly October 7 Hamas attack could not justify such alleged actions, as it launched a landmark case at the top UN court. Pretoria has lodged an urgent appeal at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to force Israel to "immediately suspend" its military operations in Gaza. Israel has dismissed the case as "atrocious" and "preposterous" and vowed to set out a robust defence on Friday. "No armed attack on a state territory, no matter how serious... can provide justification for or defend breaches of...

The steamship Columbia, Capt. BARTON, from New-Orleans, Dec. 3 via Havana, arrived at this port yesterday. She was detained at New-Orleans one day beyond her regular time of leaving, by order of Major-Gen. BANKS. Information had reached New-Orleans, from three or four different directions, that all the rebel troops which have been operating in Western Louisiana, on the banks of the Mississippi, and in fact the whole force of the enemy, are gathering in Central Texas, and uniting to form one large army, to attack our new acquisitions on the coast of Texas. They will number at least 20,000. The...

As the House begins impeachment proceedings against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his failure to do anything about the unprecedented number of illegal crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border, Republicans in Congress should not allow major transportation companies and left-wing special interest groups to escape scrutiny and accountability for their role in facilitating the crisis. During the holiday travel season, several conservative investigative journalists began sharing videos showing large groups of migrants at airports appearing to bypass security and board planes to various destinations around the country. One viral video shared on X on December 19 by Ashley St. Clair,...

The night before the lockdowns began, I laid alone in bed, listening to National Public Radio affiliate WNYC-FM in the dark. A newscaster grimly announced that New York Governor Cuomo would, the next day, issue a 15 day “Shelter in Place Order.” I couldn’t believe this was happening. Put a state of 22 million on house arrest? Over a respiratory virus that was linked to deaths of a tiny fraction of old Italians and Spaniards? Over a hokey video of some Chinese guy laying on the sidewalk scissoring his legs? When had healthy people ever been locked down? What made...

Former American intelligence officer Scott Ritter has visited the Russian republic of Chechnya, offering its leader Ramzan Kadyrov and his fighters "friendship" with the United States. Ritter, a former United Nations Special Commission weapons inspector, U.S. Marine Corps intelligence officer, and a convicted sex offender, made the remarks in an address during his visit to Chechnya's capital, Grozny.

Prosecutors claim he ran a virtual tax preparation business that provided customers with tax returns beyond what they were actually owed, defrauding the government.

Progressive prosecutors took office pledging to prosecute cops for alleged misdeeds. From Philadelphia to Los Angeles, they’ve kept that promise. But many of these cases crumble under scrutiny. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, which has criminal jurisdiction over adult felony cases in the nation’s capital, offers a stark case in point. In December 2022, Washington, D.C., police officer Terence Sutton was convicted of second-degree murder for the October 2020 death of Karon Hylton-Brown. Sutton faces more than six decades behind bars when he is sentenced, though his sentencing has been delayed and is yet to be...
