An Illinois teacher of over 20 years had the cops called on her after she gave her middle school students the option of reading a book about sexuality and gender. Sarah Bonner held a “book tasting” for students in March and offered an array of fiction and nonfiction titles including Juno Dawson’s “This Book Is Gay,” which quickly became the epicenter of a massive controversy when parents called the police over the book choice. “I wanted to give them a smattering of fiction and nonfiction to choose from on a day that we call ‘Reading Monday,'” Bonner told Today.com. “We...

It’s a Tuesday morning in Tallahassee, and a wood-paneled hearing room at the Florida legislature is packed. The state senate’s fiscal-policy committee is considering a bill to prohibit most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, and dozens of citizens have lined up to testify: anguished young students in colorful hair and “abortion is health care” T-shirts; little old ladies wearing cardigans and crosses. For hours they speak in emotional terms as the senators listen. Yet an air of inevitability hangs over the proceedings. Governor Ron DeSantis supports this bill, and therefore it is destined to pass. In Tallahassee these days,...

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Sixty-year-old Leonor Rodriguez never pulled the trigger when a man was shot in the parking lot of a west Miami-Dade mall Thursday, but she faced an attempted murder charge just the same, according to police. That’s because police say Rodriguez encouraged the suspect, whom police were still looking for Friday, to shoot the man because she was “irate” over “vulgar statements” the victim made to her during an altercation in the Midway Crossings parking lot. The shooting happened just after 12:30 p.m. outside the half-century-old mall, once- and perhaps better known as the “Mall of the...

Police arrested a 35-year-old woman, who identifies as a 15-year-old boy, for harboring a teen runaway. Shouldn’t Washington Progressives defend this woman for being mis-aged? The police allege Amanda Dorrough was involved in a host of inappropriate behavior with juveniles, including getting naked in front of them, inappropriately touching one, and providing marijuana. One of her alleged victims characterized her as “pedophile-ish,” according to a police incident report, which doesn’t list the individual ages of the alleged victims. This incident highlights the dangers of identifying as something you’re not. But it also shows the left-wing hypocrisy on issues of identity....

A left-wing radical from North Dakota has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and faces just 10 years in prison thanks to a sweetheart deal that saw his original murder charge downgraded after he admitted to killing a teenager for having conservative political views. 42-year-old left-wing radical Shannon Brandt, of Glenfield, North Dakota, pleaded guilty on Thursday to a reduced charge of manslaughter in the 2022 politically-motivated homicide of 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson. Though Brandt was initially charged with murder in Ellingson’s death and admitted that he killed the young man for political reasons, his murder charge was reduced in a sweetheart deal...

"This is another failure of the Biden administration, which could have severe consequences for the United States’ ability to deter China," Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., said of the failure of the administration to submit mandated reports on Taiwan. The overdue reports were supposed to come from Secretary of State Antony Blinken (left) and Republican senators are sounding the alarm over the Biden administration’s apparent failure to follow requirements of the Taiwan Enhanced Resilience Act. The law is part of the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act, which President Joe Biden signed into law on Dec. 23. Among other things, the Taiwan...

Former FBI agent Peter Strzok, a key figure in the “Russia collusion” hoax, attacked Breitbart News contributor Peter Schweizer on Thursday for his work on alleged corruption by Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden. Strzok, who had been one of the agents assigned to investigate Trump for supposed links to Russia, before his incendiary anti-Trump text messages with a lover were discovered, took to Twitter to attack Schweizer’s work: If you have the slightest concern about the FBI’s relationship with Christopher Steele, you should be losing your mind about the FBI’s relationship with Peter Schweizer. New reporting from...

High-stakes talks over raising the debit limit abruptly came to a halt Friday on Capitol Hill, after Republican negotiators walked out of the room and blamed the White House for holding up discussions. “Until people are willing to have reasonable conversations about how you can actually move forward and do the right thing, then we’re not gonna sit here and talk to ourselves,” Rep. Garret Graves, R-La., told reporters. “We decided to press pause because it’s just not productive,” he added. Graves said he did not know if talks would resume this weekend. Financial markets dipped on the news, which...

Bipartisan legislation is being introduced in the House and Senate to keep AM radio from being removed from electric vehicles amid concerns the electric motors interfere with its frequency. The AM for Every Vehicle Act has the support of Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.), Rep. Tom Kean, Jr. (R-N.J.), Rob Menendez (D-N.J.), Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.). In the Senate, Sens. Edward Markey (D-Mass.) and Ted Cruz (R-Tex). More than half of all students, and nearly 40 percent of all faculty at New Mexico’s higher education institutions don’t have enough food to eat. The findings, from a new state-funded study, reveal troubling statistics representative of a worsening problem across America. New Mexico is taking steps to address it — and other states should pay attention. We’ve known about the problem of food insecurity among U.S. college students for a while. But the New Mexico research casts a wider spotlight on hunger’s broader impact on higher education teachers and administrators. It’s yet another data point that shows just how...

I took my weekly trip to San Diego this week. This is something I have done for more than a decade, just to get a change of scenery, look at the ocean take in a ballgame and just relax for a short spell…it’s a manageable drive from where I live, in a state without an ocean. I have, over the years, noticed a degradation in San Diego, mostly downtown, but the obvious destruction and malaise in California, while present, was actually somewhat muted in the once fair and relatively conservative city of San Diego. But this week I witnessed things...

Vacuum chamber containing the atom chip. Credit: Thomas Schweigler, TU Wien How do quantum particles exchange information? An intriguing hypothesis regarding quantum information has recently been validated through experimental verification conducted at TU Wien. If you were to randomly pick an individual from a crowd who stands remarkably taller than the average, it’s quite likely that this person will also surpass the average weight. This is because, statistically, knowledge about one variable often gives us some insight into another. Quantum physics takes these correlations to another level, establishing even more potent connections between disparate quantities: distinct particles or segments...

Author and pastor Tim Keller, who planted a church in New York City that grew to 5,000 attendees and who pioneered work in urban ministry, died Friday after a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 72. Keller and his wife Kathy launched Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan in 1989 and watched as it grew to a weekly attendance of thousands. Keller was known for his staunch yet winsome defense of orthodoxy in the liberal bastion of New York City. He defended the exclusivity of the gospel and the biblical definition of marriage and even engaged with critics on social...

Republican-led legislatures and governors seeking to put the brakes on puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgical removal of healthy breasts and genitals for gender-confused minors have a new weapon from the U.S. military. Nearly a third of "transgender and gender-diverse" patients who received so-called gender-affirming hormones had stopped taking them within four years, according to a study of children and spouses of soldiers who received treatment through the U.S. Military Healthcare System. Those most likely to stop were females and adults, which could be seen as supporting theories that the explosion in gender-confused teen girls is driven by "social contagion"...

The FBI has failed to comply with a Congressional subpoena seeking an FBI-generated "FD 1023 form" that allegedly details a bribery scheme involving then-Vice President Joe Biden and a foreign national. Based on whistleblower disclosures, House Oversight Republicans say the Department of Justice and the FBI possess an unclassified FD-1023 form that describes an alleged criminal scheme relating to the exchange of money for policy decisions. The whistleblower disclosures further state that the document includes a precise description of how the alleged criminal scheme was employed as well as its purpose. The House Oversight Committee is investigating what many see...
