Jim Brown, arguably the greatest football player of all time, has died at the age of 87, TMZ Sports has confirmed.
"It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my husband, Jim Brown," Monique Brown tells us. "He passed away peacefully last night at our LA home. To the world he was an activist, actor and football star."
"To our family, he was a loving and wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Our hearts are broken."
We're told Jim hadn't been doing well ... and was recently visited by several of his close friends including Marshall Faulk, Eric Dickerson, and Flavor Flav. Brown, a first-round pick in 1957 (6th overall), went on to win 3 NFL MVP awards. Jim was named to 8 First Team All-Pro teams over the course of his incredible career. He led the NFL in rushing 8 times, and rushing touchdowns, 5. He won a championship in 1964.
Aside from his prowess on the football field, Brown was also a legendary lacrosse player at Syracuse, where he earned All-American honors.

I write this as a Steelers fan, rest in peace, Jim Brown.
Loved him in mars attacks
The best to ever carry a football. Pretty good actor as well. He also seemed to stray from the African American plantation from time to time - like his common sense would just kick in.
“Activist”?!
RIP Jim Brown.
He was before my time, but I will agree he was faster than Franco Harris, although Franco beat him when they did race.
I’m guessing that Jim Brown needed the money.
If Franco had shown up for training camp, he might have broken Brown’s record before Walter Payton did. As it was, Franco didn’t get there.
I think I first saw him in “The Dirty Dozen.” I wasn’t watching football at the time he was playing...
He was inspiring on many levels. Tough, in a time of determined and tough athletes. Legend seems to be an understatement for him, and that says it all.
Funny, that was the first thing I thought of.
I was going to put ‘GOAT’ under the picture, but the statistics don’t seem to justify that... I guess there are intangibles that could make it true. It’s like calling Montana the GOAT in the face of Tom Brady’s numbers...
Why do you have a problem with him being called an activist?
He got to make out with Raquel Welch in ‘100 Rifles’
Damn! Damn! Damn!
Rest in Peace Number 32
He was the best Lacrosse player to have ever played the gme.
The last of the Dirty Dozen?
A fine gentleman... R.I.P Jim Brown...
One more...Donald Sutherland
