On Thursday's Morning Joe, BBC correspondent and Morning Joe regular Katty Kay bemoaned that Dobbs and other court rulings restricting access to abortion represent a "blow" to the American tradition of expanding rights to those without power. It apparently doesn't occur to the clueless Kay that the most powerless of all are unborn children, and that limiting abortion expands their right to live. Ever heard of a movement called "right to life," Katty? Get the rest of the story and view the video here.

On April 2, 2023 OPEC+ — a group of oil-producing countries led by Saudi Arabia and Russia — announced that it would cut production starting in May and extending through the end of the year. This marks the first time OPEC+ has cut production since 2018. Analysts have pegged the overall production cuts at 1.66 million bpd. At that rate, by year-end about 400 million barrels will have been removed from the market, more than offsetting last year’s SPR releases.

Lawmakers are outraged after reports that federal COVID-relief tax dollars may have gone to wealthy hospitals while avoiding helping out poor hospitals in recovering from the pandemic. Republican members of Congress have raised this very question, asking why $17 billion of COVID-19 relief funds was used by hospitals with profits topping more than $53 billion, “while $35 billion went to hospitals that reported a loss of almost $130 billion.” House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., and Rep. Nick Langworthy, R-N.Y., launched an investigation this week into the Department of Health and Human Services over the matter,...

Editor’s Note: Sometimes, my scan of thousands of headlines from conservative and alternative news sites fails me. That’s my excuse for missing this story yesterday about journalist Seymour Hersh’s claim about massive “skimming” of U.S. aid to Ukraine by officials, including the “Hero of Democracy” Volodymyr Zelensky. Oh, and the CIA apparently knows all about it. Because of course they do. On top of that, Hersh claimed U.S. aid is earmarked for Ukraine to buy diesel fuel… from Russia. This whole drama is like a very bad and deadly soap opera. Here’s Dave DeCamp from Antiwar reporting on it… Seymour...

The world’s first “smart gun” hit the market Thursday, complete with a life-saving fingerprint unlocking system that prevents “unauthorized” people such as kids and criminals from firing it. The cutting-edge 9mm handgun locks out everybody except the owner and users specifically approved by the owner — technology that could improve gun safety in America, according to reps from the gun-making firm Biofire. “Right now it seems like the entire country is always processing a new tragedy involving children and guns,” the Colorado-based firm’s CEO Kai Kloepfer told The Post. “We are offering a real solution, at a time when solutions...

Biden appeared to have intended to say New Zealand “All Blacks” rugby squad, according to a White House transcription of his remarks at the Windsor bar in Dundalk, County Louth. Instead, the president referenced the “Black and Tans” — the nickname for members of the notoriously brutal Royal Irish Constabulary, who were enlisted by the British to fight against Irish Republicans and committed atrocities against civilians during the Irish War of Independence over 100 years ago. The name “Black and Tans” reflected the color of their uniforms. The gaffe ended a rocky first day for the president’s trip to Ireland...

A study shows that compared with standard care that included low-dose corticosteroid use, treating hypoxic COVID-19 patients needing only oxygen therapy or no breathing support with higher-dose corticosteroids is associated with a 60% increased risk of death. This study had already identified that low-dose corticosteroids reduce mortality for patients with COVID-19 requiring oxygen or ventilatory support. However, in May 2022, the independent Data Monitoring Committee advised that this treatment assessment be stopped for those patients receiving oxygen alone or no breathing support. Eligible and consenting adult patients with COVID-19 and clinical evidence of hypoxia (i.e., receiving oxygen or with oxygen...

,,,Grand Renaissance Dam, which Ethiopia is building, will be Africa's biggest hydroelectric power plant. Its construction began in 2011 on the Blue Nile tributary in the northern Ethiopia highlands, from where 85% of the Nile's waters flow. However, the mega dam has caused a row between Egypt and Ethiopia, with Sudan caught in between, which some fear could lead to war... At the centre of the dispute are plans to fill up the mega dam as Egypt fears the project will allow Ethiopia to control the flow of Africa's longest river. Hydroelectric power stations do not consume water, but the...

Budd’s focus on Trump’s issue strengths, particularly the economy and America’s place on the world stage, show a push from Trump and his allies towards eyeing the general election in November 2024, in large part because party leaders and officials have begun coalescing behind Trump in recent weeks as he shows stronger and stronger numbers in public polling both nationally and in key states, both in the primary and in the general.Budd joins several key Senate colleagues like Sens. President Biden is set to announce on Thursday an expansion of Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) insurance exchanges to include coverage for recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, according to an Associated Press report. The measure will be a significant expansion for the DACA program, which allows some Dreamers — undocumented immigrants who arrived in the country as minors — to live and work in the United States. Nine of the top 10 wealthiest congressional districts are represented by Democrats, while Republicans now represent most of the poorer half of the country, according to median income data provided by Rep. Marcy Kaptur's (D-Ohio) office. Why it matters: The last several decades have ushered in a dramatic political realignment, as the GOP has broadened its appeal to a more diverse working class and Democrats have become the party of wealthier, more-educated voters. "Republicans were the party of the country club, and they're increasingly the party of country," lobbyist and political analyst Bruce Mehlman told Axios. "We have seen an...
